I decided to start 2022 by embracing my chaotic energy. I've had the first two books in this series on my TBR for quite a while, but I read the synopsis of this one and thought...let's just jump on in. I'm so glad I did!
This book tells an intertwined story about 3 women: Elena (a Vine Witch, who is the star of book 1, and has all kinds of fun elemental/earthy magical powers), Yvette (a fairy, who is the star of book 2, The Glamourist, who can do fun things like fly and manipulate people's desires), and Sidra (a genie, who is the star of this book, #3, who can grant wishes, turn into smoke, and do lots of fun things with fire).
While Sidra takes the lead in this book, it's clear that all 3 women are important, and I loved each of them for different reasons. They each have full and distinct lives and motivations, so it was fun to see them work together and use their unique gifts and powers to work towards a common goal. In that way, it reminded me of Ocean's 11 or one of those similar heist type movies. It's a great adventure, with lots of ups and downs, and the author does a good job of establishing real tension and suspense. I wasn't sure how it was all going to turn out, which is a fun experience. It wasn't completely predictable.
I know I jumped in and read the ending first, but I liked it so much, now I want to go back and read the first 2 books in this series to see how it all started. Chaos experiment: success! I think Sidra would approve!
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great end cap to this series. Each one follows a different character for the most part with the addition of our main character from book one. I'm glad all the ladies ended up having resolutions with their stories. The wording building in this series is my favorite. I love the details and all the magical creatures. I definitely recommend reading them in order. Its just more satisfactory to watch all these characters grow.
Sadly, I have not read this book, and therefore can not give a review of it. I requested it without noticing it is the third instalment in a trilogy that I haven't read. I appreciate Netgalley for sending me the ARC nonetheless. Maybe in the future I will read the previous two books and then read and review this one, but I don't think it will be in the near future.
So this is a late one because, honestly, it took me forever to read. For some reason the vibe seemed off with it but it also seemed repetitive with the earlier instalments.
This one centres around Sidra and her efforts to escape Jamra, the jinn who is the brother of the man she murdered - but Sidra says someone must have messed with her beloved as their plan was never that they would actually die, instead simply run away from all the drama. Think Romeo and Juliet but both are magic and only one party actually dies.
Compared to The Vine Witch, Conjurer felt very VERY slow. I understand there was a lot supposed to happen but it all felt like everyone just kind of faffed around until they meet the perfumer. Not saying that slow novels aren't great for some people; for me they get very boring and become an absolute slog to get through.'
Overall I can see the pull of this series for readers, I myself really enjoyed the first novel. For me though, this one lacked the pizzazz of previous volumes. Still a great read if you like slow burn mystery and magic
This was a really easy and fun read. I really enjoyed the ending scenes and how everything was all wrapped up.
The Conjurer by Luanne G. Smith was a book I held onto for awhile waiting for the right time to start it. You know, the time when you can easily pick up a light read that doesn't require much time or energy to get through. A book that is "just for the fun of it" and not one that teaches life's great lessons or such. This was it!
I was bewitched by this trio of misfit friends and easily sailed through this easy read. The writer has a wonderful way of bringing (even fantasy) characters to life and a style of writing that I'd like to see more of. The story flows easily from page to page and wraps up in a way that leaves the reader satisfied. Add in magic and potions and some historical fiction and you have a winner in my opinion.
I would like to clarify that by mistake I didnt realize this was the third book on the series, so my bad for starting something right in the middle. However and altho I was confused in some parts, the series is explained to us as we go along so it helped with me being able to enojy the book.
with that being said I have to admit it was a fun read filled with magic, adventure and friendship! the prose is ´very pretty and submersive and it only made me interested in knowing the full story (from book 1) even more.
the mix of characters and lore was as alluring and unexpected that it also added to the charm of this story!
Now im really interested in picking the series and starting, properly, from the beginnign.
(With thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy, in exchange for an honest review).
This just didn’t end up being a book that interested me. When I first read the premise, I was very excited and invested, but getting into it made it clear that it just wasn’t for me. Hopefully it works for others out there!
I took a look at the cover and read the synopsis and thought this book was right up my alley, so I didn’t think twice before picking it up! Little did I know that it was the third one in a series I hadn’t even started yet! However, that didn’t dimish at all my love for this story and these characters.
Throughout The Conjurer, the major things that happened in the previous installments of the series are explained to us, so we never feel lost or just thrown into the story.
It is a really easy and fun read, filled with friendship, clan rivalry, magic and adventure. Even without having met the characters along with everyone else, I still fell in love with every single one of them! We get to meet a plethora of powerful women who would do anything to save those they love, unexpected allies and jinni magic, which I’d never read about before!
Additionally, even though it felt a tad bit predictable, I REALLY enjoyed the ending scenes and how the book wrapped everything up. I’m definitely thinking of reading the rest of The Vine Witch trilogy because I don’t want to part with this story.
I loved this one! eerie, atmospheric and so so unlike anything I have ever read with an arc of a romance tale. YES!
Review to come. Thanks to 47North and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is the third book in the Vine Witch series, and is by far the best. The first book was good, the second book was better, but this one - I feel like Stefon from Saturday Night Life: "This book has everything: dogs, sorcerers, jinn, perfume, and ancient artifacts." It's a good read. You can follow along if you haven't read the others, but it helps if you've read the first two.
The Conjurer is the third and I think the final book in the Vine Witch trilogy.
I quite enjoyed this series but, this book was my least favorite, I was hoping for a little bit more of action.
I would recommend this series to anyone that likes a wonderful tale of female friendship with a dash of magic.
3 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
thanks to netgalley for this Arc in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved the 1st two books in this series. I highly recommend both The Vine Witch and The Glamourist! This one did not grip me like others did for a number of reasons. 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ IMO is well written book that either didn’t pique my interest or in this case I think the introduction of an entirely different set of magical creatures, their rules & additional characters required too much repetition for me. The main character Sidra is a Jinn and she just never got me invested enough to care about her. Elena and Yvette form a sisterhood of magical women who strive to both save Sidra & a village of perfume witches. Even though there is an interesting twist at the end (and it was a good one) didn’t change how I felt. If you are looking at this series—I strongly recommend the first two books! This is not a stand alone book. If there were to be a fourth novel, I will definitely read it because of how much I loved them.
I received a free copy of this book in lieu of an honest review through #NetGalley
The conjurer was a wonderful tale of sisterhood and female friendship.
It has magic, it had scenery, it had feels.
There was revenge (plotted), and there was justice served.
Sidra was relatable, and the Jinni aspect was interesting.
I love The Conjurer, which is the 3rd book of The Vine Witch as much as book #1. I just wish we were able to get to know Sidra's love interest.
This is the finale of a trilogy focusing on three different magically tinted women in historical France. The first installment follows The Vine Witch, the second The Glamourist, and now we get the story of Sidra, the Jinni conjurer who is being hunted by someone from her past for a secret she holds and a murder she may have committed.
Had I read this as a standalone, I likely would have given it a lower rating. Though each installment in this trilogy can read as an individual novel, this one really needed the character connections formed in the previous books to give it a boost.
The first portion of the book felt like it moved too fast, with events being rushed and scenery changes lacking a bit of a comfortable transition. This somewhat jerky movement of the narrative happened a few times during the plot, making it feel like the bones of the story were well established, but the blending work of the writing was maybe rushed and not given enough time for the author to fully flesh out. While the writing was still good and the story was intriguing, it didn't really seem to be the same quality of composition as I had seen in the first two books.
That fast movement did have another effect. Though truly a full novel in length, something about this made it feel more like a novella. The pacing was fast, but there was something else at work that I can't quite put my finger on. This feeling was not necessarily a bad thing, but I didn't feel like we got to explore as much of Sidra's life as we had the primary protagonists of the other two books. Because of this, I think I had a hard time connecting to this story as well as I had with her other works. There was a clear conflict that should have felt very tense, but I just didn't have a good investment with Sidra as a character so it felt a little flat. It may have been mostly to due with my not really seeing her as a sympathetic character, so this may not be an issue for other readers.
I loved Smith's creativity and ability to create a very atmospheric setting. She has a knack for making her scenery feel nearly tangible and her supporting characters always have just enough uniqueness to them to feel real without feeling over the top. Some of the plot pieces did feel a bit overly convenient and there was an odd piece in one of the ending sequences where a side character seemed to drop off the map for a bit of the story, but otherwise things moved pretty comfortably and the story felt believable.
Overall, I quite enjoyed this series. It was fun and imaginative and Smith's writing was just so great at being descriptive. Her books are easy, fast reads with good characters and magical twists that make things even more interesting and unpredictable.

As this was the third book in a series I should not have surprised that I was a little disappointed in it. I enjoyed the story but felt there was something lacking. The characters came off a little flat. I feel that the main character Sidra did not come with a back story that was as well written as the two previous main Characters in the last two books.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has a fondness for stories delving in fantasy and magic. I believe even if you have not read the previous books it is still a book to be enjoyed.
Sidra is a curious creature and I`m grateful to hear more of her story. The focus shift allows us to delve deeper into another form of magic. I will say vine witches are still my favorite.
A great final book to the series! I found myself wrapped up in the story from the very beginning unable to put it down until the end. The twists and turns that are written in and the unexpected characters make the story so much more enjoyable. I once again am drawn into the magical world in which Elena, Yvette, and Sidra found themselves delving into. I lvoe the bond that has formed between the three and their teamwork to make it through.
As a series, I really appreciated that each book told the story of a different character. This was an interesting take on a series.
