Stunning illustrations, lyrical and magical. A book I have recommended to many in the bookstore, for gifts, for those who love a bit of magic.
Absolutely phenomenal
Thank you so much to net galley and the publisher for sending me a copy of this book. Briana Corr Scott never fails to disappoint. The cover is just as gorgeous as the insides!
Briana Corr Scott never disappoints. The illustrations and text in this book just flowed over this reader. I loved every page of this book. I could look at her illustrations over and over again and see something new each time. Exquisite.
Oh to be a Selkie,
And live between two worlds
Half your days spent as a seal,
And the other half, a girl…
Stories of Selkies have been told for ages, and this delightful, little picture book shows the days and nights of a Selkie, both as a seal and as a girl. It’s told in verse and accompanied by illustrations. There’s a full section at the end that explains the history and lore of the Selkie that perfectly accompanies the story.
This was a delightful little blip on an otherwise morose day. I love the lore of those that are half sea creature, and I think I’d like to be a Selkie myself. A simple life by the sea in human form and the opportunity to roam the seas when I get restless as a seal.
This one fell off of my radar for a bit, but I’m glad I came back across it while scrolling through my TBR. Recommended for your kiddos (or you) when you need a touch of magic in your day.
This book is so beautiful. Children will adore it. It’s a great poetry book covering Selkies which are not seen in many children’s literature. A great book!
Stunningly illustrated and complimented with historical content. A beautiful tale of the Selkie with lots to be learnt about how we view ourselves and others. A hidden treasure of a book.
i really enjoyed reading this, the art was great and I really enjoyed the story. I liked the characters and liked the way the author writes.
I found the illustrations to this book really beautiful. There is a bit of story to this with a bit of history at the end of it. It follows on little selkie girl. Nice book to read.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
4.5 stars.
The Book of Selkie is a beautifully put together book of poems all about selkies and their lives. Each illustration is absolutely stunning and really fits the poem it accompanies through the book.
This is a gorgeous and well versed book that children, especially selkie or mermaid lovers will adore.
The Book of Selkie is simply magical.
The artwork is enchanting and the story feels real and true. The reader is instantly transported into the oceanic world, as if it's the most natural thing in the world.
Selkie is a delight to get to know, and there are unique and quirky additions to the original myth. I loved the idea of "spinning fog" and cooking Selkie dishes.
It's a beautiful book for all ages, one that you will want to read over and over again.
Briana Corr Scott's art is phenomenal. I have paged through so many times, just to stare at the images. Remarkable.
The illustrations in this book were gorgeous. I couldn't keep my eyes off of them. I do think the story was lacking a bit, although I did love the subject matter.
Unable to download before archived as my tablet was damaged and I had been unable to afford a new one until recently. Apologies.
This book is lovely! The art is beautiful and the poem is beautiful. Readers that enjoy learning about mythological creatures will find this book appealing.
This book is amazing! One of my favorite quotes was that:
"As a SEAL, she roams the sea
And rarely wanders home" (Page 6)
Probable because i remembered the time that we could out of our houses with safe, and now that we are in quarantine we cant out without fear to goig to be sick, this book makes me think about it, and did me happy for this. Even with your simply, i thought in that, and this makes that book being especial and different.
The way that Scott chosed to talk about mistific things was soo sweet, the arts and the design make the magic words of her became real. I feel inside me thee power of this book.
The arts of all the book is perfect, and i think that should be more perfect if have more texts, but it's a childish book, whatever, i really enjoyed it anyway.

I absolutely love selkies, so I was very excited to receive this book! The Book of Selkie is a beautiful and charming story. For children or parents who love learning about mythical creatures, this is the perfect introduction to selkies. The Book of Selkie explores what selkies eat, where they live, and what they do all day! The prose is lyrical and descriptive. The illustrations are stunning, clearly done with immense care. The use of light and cool tones creates the sense of being underwater, immersed in an ocean where selkies roam. I would highly recommend this book for anyone, regardless of age. The Book of Selkie is available now! Thank you to Briana Corr Scott, Nimbus Publishing, and Netgalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a simply stunning book and I have already ordered the hardback copy for keeps. It is the story of the Selkie, a mythical creature, as told through poetry, and how she spends her days. The illustrations are simply stunning and this little gem of a book is one I cannot wait to share with my own children and the children in my class. Beautiful and stunning.
Before this book existed, I had spent my 19 years knowing nothing at all about the existence of a fable of selkie. Categorized under Children’s books, The Book of Selkie by Briana Con Scott is suitable to be fawned by children and I think adults also can enjoy this fable. The book itself has 24 illustrated pages which are mostly accompanied with simple use of English language in navigating through an anecdote about a selkie’s life. The illustrations are so intricately beautiful, looking so opaque. Undeniably to say it makes the story more interesting, the perfect trap to snag children’s attention.
This story follows a girl who lives in two different worlds, half-day she has spent as a human, and the other half she turns into a seal. At first, it depicts a journey of the girl who’s been living as a seal and her desire to become a human call for her. The flow of the storyline is so soothing and at the end, the yearning to become a seal again returns, the girl is long gone. But I highly recommend reading this along with the illustrations, so mesmerizing.
I thought that this was a really lovely story.
It was a lovely illustrated poetry book about the legend of the selkie.
It was easy to read and easy to follow too and it had a lovely natural flow.
It is a great way to introduce the legend of the Selkie to children.
It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!
The Book of Selkie is a children’s picturebook that introduces a selkie to children. Selfies are faerie people who live part of their lives as a seal. The selkies are seals that can shed their coat on land and transform into humans. They live part of their life on land. In simple text, this book explains the yearning of a selkie to be on land and also return to the sea. This book talks about a typical ‘selkie’ day, their diet, and how they keep themselves busy on land.⠀

With soothing illustrations, this book is appropriate to teach young children about Scottish and Irish legends of the selkie.⠀
**NetGalley provided an ARC for an honest review**
A quick, illustrated poetry book about the legend of the selkie, this children's story was pretty and relaxing. I've been fascinated by the selkie legend ever since I watched the Song of the Sea movie from Gkids. This was a fun read. *3.5 stars*
