This is the third book in the Sisters of Sussex series and also my first book by this author
I have not read the first two books, but I plan to go back and remedy that since I enjoyed this one so much. This was a delightful story with charming characters. I enjoyed reading the fun and witty dialogues. Kate was so endearing and I'm glad Lord Dennison got the chance to redeem himself after their first meeting! He appears to be a bit of a dandy, but his heart has been broken in the past and that is just his way of protecting himself. Their sweet and romantic love story will definitely pull at your heartstrings. A lovely story indeed, and I look forward to reading more by this author.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I really wanted to like this book, but the writing was awkward, dialogue was stiff, and the plot was not interesting. Sorry.
This fun Regency Era read is the third book in the Lords for the Sisters of Sussex series. Although it works as a stand-alone, I think it would have been more enjoyable if I had first read Books 1 and 2 , The Duke’s Second Chance and The Earl’s Winning Wager. This third installment of the series follows the relationship of Kate Standish (one of the 5 sisters of Sussex) and Lord Logan Dennison who are connected by a mutual interest in fashion prompted by their own reasons—hers out of necessity and his to help him cope with a broken heart. The plot flows at a steady pace, the characters are delightful, and the romance develops sweetly. The vivid descriptions of the outlandish fashions add to the fun, and the serious emotional undertone to all the frivolity adds to the uniqueness of the story. The discoveries relating to the relational link to William the Conqueror continues the interesting mystery element woven into the series. I will definitely be reading the first two books and looking forward to the fourth one Suitors for the Proper Miss releasing in February 2021. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I received a copy of this book in e-book form from the publisher via netgalley but am under no obligation to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
This is a sweet, clean Regency story that’s fun to read, but it also has a heart-touching aspect. Both Lord Dennison and Kate Standish love the latest fashions, and are trend-setters among their peers. In fact, Kate is the anonymous author of the popular newspaper column “Her Lady’s Whims and Fancies”, which shares details of what is in the current style for the “ton”. Lord Dennison is concentrating on fashion because he’s trying to distract himself from a broken heart; Kate began the column as a way to provide for herself and her sisters—to keep them from starving. But with her older sister’s happy marriage to a wealthy English peer, Kate’s family is now well established, and she now longer needs the column.
I liked both Kate and Lord Dennison and thought their story was an enjoyable one. I had not read the other books in this series, but was able to enjoy this one entirely on its own. That being said, I would like to catch up on the other books that preceded this one. If you like clean, sweet Regency fiction, you’ll like this one.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Kate Standish has a secret occupation: a fashion plate designer for a lady's magazine. She has quite a bit of acclaim in that arena, not that anyone knows her name. Lord Logan Dennison has a marked sense of fashion himself (along with the acclaim)--but longs for a more important battle to fight. She finds fault with his pretentiousness; he finds fault with her fashion sense. Hurtful words fly. But they each resolve to give the other a chance and discover a unexpected depth of character just under the surface. .
This is a clean, cozy Regency romance. Kate and Logan have enough chemistry that you want them to succeed as a couple. At first, I had trouble getting into the story, since fashion has never been my passion (I'm more of a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl) and the dialogue in the first few chapters was a bit tedious. But as the two learn more about each other and their motives become a little more clear, they become more likeable. I would recommend this series for someone interested in a Jane Austen/Hallmark hybrid.
Rated PG
--clean romance without bedroom scenes
--no violence
--no language
--no gore
I was given this ebook free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Oh I like the Whims and Fancies newspaper part of the story. It is cleaver and adds a touch of whimsy. The romance was nice too. The sisters were close and had a warm relationship. The colorful clothes were fun too. Very inventive story. I liked it.
I am a huge fan of regency books. I love the grandeur and romanticised version of life. "Her Lady's Whims and Fancies" did not disappoint. This book is the third in the 'Lords for the Sisters of Sussex' series. It tells the story of Kate Standish and Lord Dennison, both fashion conscious and fashion forward members of society in Brighton. As they fall in love readers are treated to a glimpse into their fears and hopes for the future. Despite the predictability of the book, I still really enjoyed it. This book was a great escape into the Regency world. If you love Regency romances then I would definitely recommend this one to you.
I’m a sucker for a good historical romance, and with a Devil Wears Prada plot I couldn’t resist reading Her Lady’s Whims and Fancies over winter break. I loved that this book was more than just a romance; there’s a bit of a mystery to both main characters and I loved seeing their relationship blossom, even after a less than ideal first meeting. Definitely a historical romance you’ll want to pick up for a light, fun read!
Miss Kate has a secret that nobody in her family or outside of the family for that matter knows. She dresses her sisters and herself in the height of fashion, always forward looking in what they wear and how they dress their hair.
At her sister's wedding she sees Lord Dennison and he also tries to push fashion as far as he can. He was hurt some time ago by a young lady he asked to marry him and she refused. He was deeply hurt and swore to never do that again. The way to handle it was to act like he did not care about anything. His twin sister knows better but keeps her thoughts to herself.
These two are growing closer as time goes by but can they get past Kate's secret and his protection of his heart?
This is a sweet, low-angst historical romance. The romance storyline is endearing and entertaining. The primary obstacle is the secret the heroine is keeping from the hero—there's not much external plot. Family members play a large role in this book, so I recommend reading the series in order. Be forewarned that this book contains an excerpt at the end of the next book in the series—that excerpt doesn't have the happy ending most romance readers are looking for.
It was really charming and cute :) Though, i wish it could have been longer so that maybe we could have more character development and get to know the characters a little more. But nontheless, i liked it.
This book was a fun and entertaining read. I didn't want to put it down. Lord Dennison has met his match with Miss Kate. I loved the character growth shown through the book and felt the characters were really well written #netgalley
This book was an interesting take on regency romance. While a good read, it lacked that spark that would make me want to read it again.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more in the series.
Lady Kate Standish had known what it was like to be hungry and she never wanted to experience that again. She was a writer for the periodical, "Whims and Fancies" and she seemed to know the fashion trends before they even happened. No one, not even her beloved sisters knew about this secret. Then she met Lord Dennison. She disliked him very much because of his rude behavior until she got to know him. He wasn't the fashion fop that he pretended to be. There was much more to his character than she found on first notice. She wanted him to know all her secrets.
Logan Dennison was unconcerned with much other than his fashion setting ways. But, when he met Miss Kate, he wanted to be much more. He saw the need for tenant reform in the House of Lords and he was determined to lead the charge toward it. Kate Standish was a beautiful woman but she had a depth of character that he had not known before. He had been spurned by someone he wanted to pledge his love to and he was anxious about ever feeling that kind of pain and humiliation again. He felt a strong attraction and connection to Kate. Was it possible that there could be a forever love between the two of them? Would her secrets destroy it before it even had a chance to blossom?
This was a delightful regency romance full of wonderful imagery and a HEA, as well. The story was clean and without foul language or graphic details of a sexual nature. I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
Her Lady's Whims and Fancies

Story Notes
This regency romance was a nice read and I liked the characters well enough. However, it did jump around a lot between the chapters, with some scenes not quite finished with their telling. The tension between Kate and Logan was well crafted and carried well through the pages. The plot line and fleshing out was believable and fun to read. The snappy dialogue was also a fun inclusion. But there were so many people in the story it was a bit challenging to keep them straight. By the end, I had everyone sorted out but only because I really worked at it. I would recommend this story as a good read that's fun, clean and entertaining, but don't think I'll be adding a copy to my shelves to reread.
I received this temporary complimentary E-book from Kings Row Press via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was easy to read and kept me interested. There was humour which l enjoyed as well as plenty of intrigue . The main characters were strong and funny at times as well as being serious. I do recommend that you read this book.
Fashion, history and great characters, loved this book. At its core it's a book about sisters and how they support each other through life's ups and downs. Throw in some romance and you have the recipe for a fun read.
This is the first book in the series that I have read. Unfortunately it does not make me want to read any of the other books in the series.
Things I enjoyed: I loved the original tiff between Lord Dennison and Kate, it was funny and awesome to read about. The humility that he had to have to apologize was very gentlemanly and endeared me to him at first.
Things I did not enjoy: Unfortunately, I was so confused by way too many characters at the beginning of the book. I needed more character development of every single character and there just wasn’t any. I felt like I just got the surface of the characters, but never a deep dive into how they think. I am still confused which sister is which cause there are a ton of them. I also didn’t like that the scenes didn’t have closure, for example there is a moment when they are about to meet Prince George and Kate is very excited, but then the chapter ends and you have no clue what happened.
Their love is sweet and I am happy that Lord Dennison wants to change by the end of the book, but personally I am not super into fashion so I didn’t understand any of the fashion nuances.
A special thank you to Kings Row Press for the digital ARC provided by Netgalley. All opinions are my own and in no way biased.
This is a pleasant read, but I feel the author has not introduced us sufficiently to all the characters and their various relationships. It is an interesting Regency romance story which takes place in Brighton and in which fashion plays a big part. I enjoyed Kate and her sisters and her boldness in trying to make sure they are never poor again, and also Lord Dennison who, in spite of being quite a dandy, is trying to use his influence for good.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Independent Book Publishers Association. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
This is book number 3 in the series. And i have read the other.ones. but this book disappointed med a little. The story was for me too weak. And I could not relate to the characters. Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest review
