The Christmas Carol is indeed easy to read classic. I waited to read a simpler version of A Christmas Carol and this book makes it easier to read, with pictures on every page. The language is also simple and easy to understand, so this book will be an apt read if you want to introduce pre-teens to classics. I read the kindle version of this book and it does not do it justice. I am looking forward to purchasing the print version.

I also looked up other books published by the same publisher. I was excited to know that there is a box set of illustrated Sherlock Holmes. I purchased this set on Amazon and I am enjoying reading the books.

I love A Christmas Carol and Great Expectations by Charles Dickens especially the children's versions because they are so easy to read and understand. This version is no exception and I'm sure there will be many children who will be delighted to read it.
Scrooge is visited by three spirits who take him on a journey to his past, present and future. Can Scrooge change his ways?
Love the illustrations too
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC

Yes! What a modern look to a children's classic! How is this Scrooge so grumpy but so adorable at the same time?! That is a true talent in my book. I would most certainly buy this if I came across it in a store or online (without prior knowledge from NetGalley) and it would make for a fun theme gift for a group of siblings.

Thank you to NetGalley for the free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

I read this book to my two sons aged 11 and 7 and this is what they have said:

‘It was really good and funny and I would like to see the pictures in colour’ D, 7.

‘It has good language which makes it easy to picture the story and it was just like the original but more child friendly’. K, 11.

I’m not sure that I would describe it as funny. I think he means different, We all enjoyed it.

A Christmas Carol is a classic. I loved this rendition. I find that these "starter" chapter books typically fall into the too easy or too hard categories- however, this was written perfectly for that age group. I even enjoyed this retelling as an adult.

The power and beauty of this classic are simply timeless. No matter if you are young or old, children or adults ... this book, in addition to the fantastic lesson, brings satisfaction to every reader.

A Christmas Carol (Easy Classics) by Philip Gooden is the personification of all the power, value and wisdom that are intertwined in every perfectly composed sentence of this amazing remake of the classic work, which has been read and will be read in the future. The very character of Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge, his appearance and characteristics lead us masterfully through the process of understanding how one should not live. How greed and harshness lead to loneliness. The visits of the three Christmas spirits, as well as the pictures that are so vividly presented, do force us to think, evaluate, both his and our lives, and motivate us to be better, friendlier, and open-minded to the beauties that life gives us. .

This book offers us a unique opportunity to present the unique Christmas spirit to our children, who can easily understand the essence of the story, which encourages them to evaluate, think and express their own views and attitudes. The language in which the story is written is entirely appropriate for both children and adults.

This is a great way to introduce younger readers to the classics. I loved the pace and the writing style and you definitely can't go wrong with the illustrations. Overall a wonderful take on a classic.

Prose (Story): This Easy Classics illustrated edition, by Sweet Cherry Publishing, of Charles Dickens's iconic classic Christmas tale re-tells - this time with a few bits from the novel not usually found in, say, the best-known film versions - the story of the miserly, miserable Ebenezer Scrooge, who through the late night visits of three spirits, finds redemption and his heart in discovering what Christmas is truly about.
Don's (Review): The oft-told tale still manages to feel fresh here and will appeal to kids of all ages, largely due to the stylized illustrations that young ones will find cute and funny ... while adults like me, who grew up with Underdog, Clutch Cargo, and more animation from back when Saturday mornings were spent with cartoons on TV, will wax nostalgic over the broadly-drawn characters of similar style. The already-short novel is perfectly adapted to hold, along with the artwork, even the youngest person's attention, while older kids and adults will find this version one to return to repeatedly on- or off-season, due to the story's perfect length and message of always being kind, but especially at Christmas. Really glad Gooden included, as mentioned, a few tidbits from the novel itself that I had forgotten from reading it so long ago; a nice touch that somehow freshened up a story so many of us know by heart already. (Available September 29) 4.5/5 stars

NOTE: I received a free ARC of this title from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars out of 5 stars!!

I would be lying if I said that I didn't love A Christmas Carol. I adore Dickens' book. I love the Muppets movie. I love the animated movie. I've read various different publications of Dickens' work and each and every time - I love it. With that being said, the illustrations in this book just ... chef kiss are amazing.

I like which parts of the story were kept, and which were redacted. I agree with the way the pictures were included to help with the minimised descriptions shown in the actual test and I realllly appreciate how grumpy Scrooge actually looks.

Aahhh. I'm so happy right now. I don't even CARE that it is September.

This is the classic tale of A Christmas Tale which is one of my favorite stories with a twist! This is good for early-ish readers perhaps 8+. The illustrations in this book which pair perfectly with the text. The images are in black and white. I think the ghosts looked a bit odd with the black background. The images are definetly not traditional cutesy illustrations but they still capture the essence of the book well enough.

Thank you Netgalley, Sweet Cherry Publishing, and Philip Gooden for this eARC which was given in exchange for an honest review.

This adapted and illustrated version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is brilliant for children age 7+. With acessible yet still challenging vocabulary, it tells the classic story in an engaging way. The author has kept all of the essential imagery that makes the original so powerful - "hard and sharp as a piece of flint, and as cold, too". The story is narrated with personality and the point of view of each character is very clear. Readers feel Fred's joy, Bob's gratitude and Scrooge's misery. The illustrations add to the emotions and communicate details about the time period effectively - the black and white matching the mood of the story.
Thank you to Sweet Cherry Publishing and NetGalley for this book.

A Christmas Carol by Philip Golden is a mystery carol based on the A Christmas Carol written for elementary children. The story is shortened and has some illustrations. Children would like it if they like mysteries.

I was so excited to see this title as it stands as one of my favorite Holiday tales. What a great way to introduce a classic to younger readers in an illustrated, well-told manner. Additionally, the black and white details as opposed to color illustrations were a welcome change and went well with the text. I will be rereading closer to the holidays!

I love being able to find good abridged classic novels that introduce children to wonderful writing as early as possible, so I was intrigued by this version.

It did not disappoint. The book is split into short accessible chapters that contain many illustrations to help children follow the narrative. I expect this would suit any proficient reader branching out into longer reading experiences- maybe from age 8 upwards. A Christmas Carol is a wonderful story about redemption and developing compassion. This is the perfect introduction for young readers and I hope there will be many more in this series.

This was adorable!!

Every Christmas I like to read a few short stories by the fire (think the nutcracker and twas the night before Christmas) and watch a few Christmas films and this will be one of those books I read every Christmas!! Hope to get my hands on a paper copy soon as I don't think the kindle did the illustrations justice!

A really accessible, beautifully illustrated (with black and white images) version of Dickens' classic novella. I think this is a great introduction to the story for younger readers but I also think it will be useful for lower ability students to gain an overview of the story. Thank you for the ARC. I will definitely be using this book in the classroom and recommend it.
