This book had me well and truly engrossed within the first chapter.
The ways the characters developed throughout the story was wonderful, and each of them so unique with their traits that I am sure most people will be able to relate with.
And then of course, there was a twist that I simply did not see coming which is always appreciated. I loved this book, and will certainly be looking out for future books by this author.
Great book! Couldn’t wait to read it, and it didn’t disappoint! Grabbed my attention within the first two chapters, and then I didn’t want to put it down. Excellent character development - I think that every reader will find a character to whom they relate. I enjoy books where there is character development, and then also a surprise, and this book provided both! Looking forward to reading more from this author!
This thriller was great! Very suspenseful and unpredictable. The first half was a bit slow for me, but it really picked up in the second half.
This is the story of Lucy and Paul.
They met. They fell deeply in love. They got married.
Lucy thought that she had everything she wanted.
Until she found the photograph from Paul's past life, read the text messages he's so desperately trying to hide. Until she uncovered Paul’s darkest secrets.
Now Lucy realises she doesn’t really know her husband. She doesn’t know if she can trust her own mind. She doesn’t know the lengths Paul would go to keep his perfect life.
And worst of all, she doesn’t know that she’s in danger...
I read a lot of psychological thrillers and just of late, they have started to seem more "Sammy". However, a few chapters into this one and I was hooked. The book was original and I was completely absorbed.
This is my first novel by the author and I look forward to reading more books by this author.
The blurb on this one really interested me and I’m glad I was given a copy. This was a well written story that was very gripping.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I absolutely love psychological thrillers so I was very excited to be given the chance to read and review this book. The book started out great and I couldn't put it down however even with all the twists and turns throughout it was a disappointment at the end. I was left with questions that I felt were never answered. I would give this author another try if there is another book however this one I probably wouldn't recommend to friends or family.
This was my first book by Elena Wilkes and I have to say it did not disappoint. How well do you really know someone? How does one change when they start living with someone else? This book really shows that anyone can become vulnerable and sometimes the ones we love aren’t who they seem to be. Would definitely recommend this book and plan to read more by this author.
This was actually much better than I expected by my first read by Elena Wilkes. I enjoy domestic thrillers with you g perfect couples until they are not and this was certainly a novel with many unexpected and devastating twists. Recommended!
How well can we really know the one we love? What a dark, gripping, psychological thriller. A little predictable at times but a great read.
Boy this one has twists and turns throughout! How well do we think we know someone? Read this and find out.
Many thanks to Hera Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was my kind of book - a twisted psychological thriller that plays out like a horror movie - opening with a seemingly happy plot of a set of newlyweds, until the wife finds some evidence that her new husband isn't at all who she thought he was. A true nightmare (especially for a newlywed like myself!) scenario that is as feasible as it is scandalous.
I appreciated the author's ability to create horror and shock in seemingly realistic scenarios, outlining that even the most dangerous people in the world have at one point walked around society just like anyone else.
While I really appreciated the overall story, I felt that the ending and the coveted twist were rushed, which I find many Thriller authors often fall victim to.
Thanks to netgalley and hera books for an ARC of this book.
This book was really disturbing..
The plot was kind of predictable, it goes like this: Lucy is a probation officer, amidst one of her cases, she meets Paul, a charming and funny psychiatrist, they had a connection Instantly, and then they get married.
And it all starts to go down.
I loved it, it was predictable but entertaining.
The fluidity of the story was really admirable
A well-written thriller, perhaps a little dragged out, which suffers from an incomplete, disatisfying ending. 4 stars though!
This was a little too long. The ending was nonsensical to me. There were other problems I had with the book but it all boils down to the fact that I really enjoyed it. It was strange, intensely scary and really thrilling.
I will definitely be picking up more from this author, I'm excited to see where she takes us next. Also, this would make a great film!
Would I recommend this book? Yes! If you like Shari Lapena, this might be a good pick for you. It was a great domestic noir read, if you can get past the ending.
Thanks to Netgalley for the preview of this book. It was ok. It started off well but it then became ridiculous with numerous sub plots that added nothing to the story. The characters were immense annoying
Dark and twisty just like I like it. Would definitely recommend it to other thriller lovers. This kept me so engaged and transported me from reality.
I thoroughly enjoyed this dark and twisted psychological thriller. The author quickly drew me in with her portrayal of such relatable characters and her vivid descriptive narrative. Once I’d read the first few pages I was hooked and I flew through the book, completely gripped by the disturbing mind games and chilling twists and turns. This is an absolute must-read for anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers.

Wow were do I start it’s just a phenomenal book. Wow, still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor it’s been a very tense last couple of chapters we’re I have been sat right on the edge of my seat, with my heart rate pounding. For Lucy. Talk of a love story from heaven that’s exactly what Lucy thought she had when she met Paul. Only they didn’t really know each other. Paul wanted to get married ASAP and Lucy went with it only because on paper everything he said there really was no argument against it. But then Paul’s like that comes across, as such i idealistic person only he likes to manipulate things on his terms. Being a psychiatrist who’s not going to believe him. Giving reports for prisoners who are facing possible release. His just part of his job. Lucy being a prison probation officer. As she starts to read the terms of his probation after he takes children and uses and sells them. Lucy is under no one’s opinion that he will stop, unlike she thinks is psychiatrists. Lucy knows when he’s says the psychiatrist says I am now cured. Do you think that Lucy. She answer they are the experts not me. Yet she knows full well
He will go straight out and commit the same crimes again. When she meets Paul the psychiatrist who she thinks had given the prisoner his full support for his release and then finding out he didn’t. It was suddenly from that first meeting that Lucy’s life was changed. She didn’t think she would see him again how wrong was she. This just as to be a must must read honestly the twist and turns are just out of the world at one point I even wondered which direction it would go next because believe you me you can not predict the ending not at ok, it’s just shock after shock at each twist wow bloody awesome. A magnificent example of a real phycological thriller. This is the first book I have read by this author but it’s definitely not going to be its last
I don't know what I expected from this book but holy page turner. I was creepy and so good. I enjoyed every page of this book. Talk about a psychological thriller. Ill definitely be reading more from this author.
Thank you Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley for a copy in exchanged for a fair review.
THE MAN I MARRIED was so psychologically creepy. It reminded me of Behind Closed Doors by B. A. Paris. Enjoyed the book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Hera Books for the arc of this book by Elena Wilkes.
