I feel like this book needs some trigger warnings for those who have experienced loss and are struggling with it. I thought this book was really great and deep. It reminded me of a movie I've seen (can't remember which one though) and really enjoyed. Chloe grew so much as a character and I enjoyed taking that journey with her.
Thank you net galley for the ARC

A heartfelt book about a woman who navigates grief after losing her boyfriend in an accident. She'd only known him for 5 months when he passed away but still felt strongly he was the one. The book follows her journey through grief and ultimately, towards self-discovery. I'd definitely read more by this author. Thank you so much @netgalley for providing me with an ARC.

I received an advance copy of Love, Almost from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The plot of the novel follows Chloe Roscoe in the aftermath of her boyfriend Jack’s unexpected death. I have to admit that this was a tough book for me to read. I feel that this was due not only to the heavy content, but also to the grieving process that Chloe goes through. For me it definitely struck a nerve and brought up repressed memories and emotions regarding losing loved ones, feeling alone, and struggling to regain order of my life. I could absolutely relate to Chloe and felt her heartache throughout her transition to life after Jack. Most importantly, this book explores concepts of loss, love, and finding oneself in a realistic manner; life can be messy, but with time, you can move forward.

This book was like a warm gorgeous hug in the midst of difficult times. Even in the bittersweet moments the warmth of the story could be felt coming off the page. I was disappointed to get to the end I enjoyed it so much.

Chloe has just moved in with the love of her life, Jack. They have shared five months and one holiday to Thailand when he is killed outside their home in a traffic accident. Love, Almost is a character study of the following months of Chloe’s life as she seeks the true nature of their relationship while grieving. This was a hit or miss for me. I liked Chloe and Doyle did a good job developing her character. Some of the choices she makes, however, seemed unbelievable to me. Her willingness to give up on so many aspects of her life based on this loss seemed a bit over the top. Three stars for me.

This book was really hard for me to read. I don't have an issue reading books about loss and depression, it just I thought this book was a romance or even chick-lit, it was more women's fiction and not really what I expected. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it.
This story is that of Chloe and Jack. While most of what we know of Jack is from Chloe's memory of him, I do think he plays a major role in how she views life. Chloe and Jack dated for a little over six months and they have just recently moved in together when Jack was killed in a motor accident while he was crossing the road. They have just eaten that morning, just woken up in the same bed that morning, when he died. She was in his apartment when his parents came in and told her about his death. His parents did not know he was dating anyone and she was basically a ghost to them and to Jack's friends.

Jack, who was a fixture in her life has suddenly gone and since almost no-one knew about them, she was not seen as important to him. Even her friend told her to forget about him and move on with her life. When Chloe went to Jack funeral, her pain became invisible because she was faceless and unknown, no solace was provided to her because her loss wasn't recognized.

She had to go back to the apartment she shared with Jack feeling like she didn't know him. She was sad and she broke down (I would too, were I in her shoes). They had made plans to travel the world and do things that make them both happy. She decided to do all those things, going on a journey to find herself and her happiness.

I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it.

I really tried with this one. I got to 40% and was still struggling so I admit it, I skimmed the remainder of the book. I wasn't a huge fan of either of the main characters and the book just got more depressing the more I read.

Oh boy this book. I so wanted to love it but it just annoyed the hell out of me. Chloe and jack have been dating for almost 5 months when he’s in an accident and this story is about Chloe trying to deal with that and her grief.

I thought this would be a moving, touchy story but it just wasn’t. I didn’t connect to any of the characters at all and honestly 90% of them I downright hated. Chloe’s family and friends are honestly the worst! The way they speak to her about Jack’s death just riled me. Not once did Chloe stick up for herself and there was zero character growth for anyone else in the book.

The writing style was also not for me. The authour is from Liverpool and so is Chloe so the speech was colloquial but it made me cringe so hard. Maybe if I enjoyed the plot more this wouldn’t have bothered me as much but if I had to read ‘me’ instead of ‘my’ one more time I think I would’ve lost it!

I enjoyed this book. It was very heartwarming, I would recommend it. I enjoyed the relationship the main character had with her family and best friends.

Chloe and Jack were dating from almost five months. They recently moved in together but then tragedy happened. Jack died. The whole book is about Chloe coping up with Jack's death. At the end of the book, she finally made her peace with Jack's death and moved on.
I didn't like this book enough to recommend it to anyone to be honest. It's your choice if you wanna pick this book.

It was sometime sweet and sad, a bit bitter and confusing i think. The confusing part because it felt like it jumped all around and it did not make sense that she was here and there and sometimes i felt just lost, it was sort of hard to follow Chloe and make sense of what she did and why. I liked how the ending was handled, and that she managed to let go and move on.

I loved this book
It was a real feel good read. I really enjoyed reading how Chloe was grieving. The adventures and her confusion. There were times you were guessing who she would fall in love with but it didn't happen, loved the alternative ending.

Rating edit: 2.5 stars.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It has a nice concept. It starts well and I loved it at certain points, like I loved how the author has expressed longing, confusion, grief and the memories. I liked Chloe's conversation with Jack. The ending (not epilogue) is poignant.

But I didn't connect with the protagonist, Chloe. There are so many characters but they doesn't really leave an impact. Most of the incidents/situations are not really interesting. It's inconsistent: sometimes it grips you and then falls apart. Like I liked Justin but his role is again very inconsistent.

I feel, it could have been a great short story. As a novel, it felt unnecessarily stretched with not so interesting situations and conversations/dialogues.

Chloe and Jack are soulmates. But life has other plans…

Chloe is deliriously in love for the very first time. But when Jack, her boyfriend of five months, is killed in a tragic accident, she is left reeling. Their relationship was amazing – but it never really had the chance to get started.

Grieving but determined, Chloe decides to live life for the both of them and makes her way through the list of things they’d planned to do together – this time on her own.

Not actually sure if I enjoyed this or not. I get that it was about love lost and about the loss of the future they might have had. Definitely emotional, but am just not sure where it was going and whether it actually got there... That said, I did enjoy it and thank netgalley for an arc of this book in return for my honest opinion.

It took me a few chapters to settle into the style of writing, then I was hooked. It is a sad, but hopeful story, and by the end the reader can see the future opening out for Chloe, you just know that she will find happiness again.

Chloe is a well-written character. She is a ‘late bloomer’, loud, brash, never sticking at a job and fed-up with dating no-hopers. She goes to watch a friend act in a brand new stage show, it is absolutely dire, and folds right after opening night! But she meets Jack, a big, bushy-bearded, jolly man. He is in many ways the male equivalent of her. She falls instantly, and madly in love with him, and in no time at all has moved from Liverpool to London to live with him., and her life settles. The book begins five months later, when Jack goes out one morning and is knocked down by an out of control vehicle, and killed. It is quite painful but very honest writing, showing how Chloe copes and finally comes to terms with her new situation. She does in fact have a great support group trying to help her, but for a while she is beyond that help, everything serves as reminders of Jack. She still sees him in her mind on occasion, and that is her greatest comfort for a while.

Even when the story is at its most sad there are small signs of happiness on the horizon, and you need those little suggestions of things looking up! A sign of good writing is that it can make you laugh and cry, almost at the same time, and Hayley has managed that throughout the book. It is a down-to-earth real story that you can believe in. I will watch out for more books by Hayley Doyle.

Chloe and Jack have been together for five months, when he suddenly dies in an accident and leaves Chloe bereft. We follow Chloe as she tries to come to terms with what has happened and move on.

So, I really didn't like this book. I have seen reviews saying it's moving and poignant, and that is what I was expecting going into it. That's definitely not what I got!

The character are just awful - there is maybe one or two that aren't complete idiots! A lot of the time I was sat wondering why Chloe is friends with these people, or why she doesn't stand up for herself when people are being awful to her. For example, when talking to Chloe about Jack's death, her mum says to her "I bet things with Jack weren't even that serious and you're just being dramatic!" - who's mother would say that to their child after they have just lost their partner, whether they had been together 5 months or 5 years?

I appreciate what the author was trying to do in this story- following Chloe through all of her 'firsts' since losing Jack and seeing how difficult that was for her to deal with, but sadly it wasn't done very well.

Five months after they start a relationship he dies. She hasn't met the family or his friends, or done anything else, because there was always time. But there wasn't. Now she has to stop drifting, and work out what to do with her life. The plot is good, but sometimes the dialogue is a bit clunky. The grammar might be realistic, however you would think a school teacher would do a bit better....

This was a beautiful story dealing with overcoming loss. The book was very thought-provoking and sad, but in the good way of getting sad because something touched you.
