Thank you Netgalley and Avon Books UK, Avon for the arc of this book. I was excited to read this book because the premise seemed so intriguing. This might not have been the book for me, but I can see how others might like it they don't mind a long story where not much goes on until the end. For me, it was too slow. Also there were a lot of revelations shoved in the end that could have been sprinkled out subtly earlier in the book. The characters were interesting, but I can't say I ever connected with any of them. However, the writing was really good and I will check out more of Ms Corcoran's books!
I really enjoyed this book, it was twisty suspenseful and full of tension. I didnt know who to believe and it was so unpredictable that I didnt see the twists coming. The characters were all well written and believeable and it was a good storyline. I was hooked.
My first book read by Caroline Corcoran was The Baby Group back in 2020.
Which I totally got into. I was so excited to see a new novel by this author.
I personally thought this was an intriguing and interesting novel
Romilly, our main character was really well drawn and developed.
I couldn't help but fell bad for her I wanted to jump inside the story and help her.
The chapters are short and snappy which made the plot move along at a great pace and made getting to know the characters really easy.
The flow of the story was intense, it had me gripped right from the start.
This story completely blew me away! Incredible... with so much depth and a mystery worth diving in to on every level!
A page turner, it kept me guessing until the very end!
I loved the description and detail in Caroline's writing.
Such a compelling and gripping thriller, which kept you wanting more and such a page turner such a great book!
Very well written psychological thriller that had me gripped from start to finish.
I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Avon and NetGalley Thank You for providing me with an eARC for an honest review!
I will post and tag on all my platforms closer to pub date!
He said...she said...believe what we will. This book was spellbinding at times...other times, the story moved slowly. The writer is an excellent story teller. Wait a minute. This book makes one believe it is nonfiction. THat is how great it is. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. I didn’t want to put it down. Red herrings...believable characters...I believed the lies and that is something I usually catch right away. The ending...just read it and see.

An ok read.
I'm a bit disappointed while saying that it's an ok read. I loved ber previous, The Baby Group and was expecting something sinister from it but nothing happened except what I thought of at the midpoint.
Romilly has given birth to a beautiful baby girl, Fleur and then she's gone from the maternity ward. Her husband, Marc, sister, Loll and best friend, Steffie are worried about her.
And this is the story. Ohh I'm missing one thing "I've postpartum psychosis".
This line is repeated again and again as if the reader will forget after a few minutes about Romilly's condition.
It's a drama between husband and wife basically and you'll know the ending if you read it carefully.
Characters and narration of the story were ok.
It's a one time read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for giving me an advanced copy of this psychological thriller.
I adore this author. I was so excited to see this book I squealed. This is my new favourite (I say this with every new book).
This is completely engaging and will capture your attention from the very beginning. I have been constantly trying to guess where this was going but have been unsuccessful.
This is a fantastic read and I have no doubt will be a bestseller.
Hmmmm well, this book moves a little slow and as it was getting close to the end I thought ok this is a good book! Not the best ever but definitely worth reading! And you can figure out what's going to happen in the end but then bam! What a little twist thrown in there! I definitely liked that!! didn't expect that at all! That brought up the book in my eyes lol but it is a little slow going but worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
This book was your classic domestic thriller. Is the woman mentally unstable, or is the man abusive? Right off the bat, I’m a little turned off by this premise. I understand the dynamic that mental illness can create in a domestic thriller, but the diagnosis of “postpartum psychosis” kept being shoved down the reader’s throat in a way that felt unnatural. We didn’t get a chance to suspect that this was the case or even feel out the diagnosis for ourselves as we got to know the character, we’re just told repeatedly that that’s what she’s suffering from. Now, if you continue reading the book, you see WHY it was presented that way, but still. I didn’t love the portrayal of mental illness in this book.
Next, it’s much ado about nothing, it feels. The book spans over the course of 5 days, and most of them are spent with not much going on. The split narration added some interest to the plot, but not enough to make up for what was inherently lacking. I get if the author was going for a vibe where things are unraveling at home, but it was too slow and not interesting enough. Everyone is annoyed there’s a flickering light bulb. Loll makes bad tea. Marc is mad that people are wearing Romilly’s slippers. Speaking of which, ROMILLY?? Is this a common name in England and I am just unfamiliar with it? Or is this another made up name? I am truly sick of authors inventing ridiculous names for fun. It makes your books immediately less believable! Your character remains a character and doesn’t become human to me.
That all being said, the writing itself was good (a couple of my favorite quotes include “I’m not religious but every time I submerge myself it feels like starting over” and “So how do we marry these two things? Marc the emotional abuser. Marc the rule-abusing dad. Or is every person in the world a body full of contradictions? Isn’t that the essence of people?” Some really lovely writing here. I enjoyed reading this book, but it fell flat for me. Even the ending didn’t feel very satisfying. The final twist just didn’t have enough at stake for me. I mean, I know what was at stake, and it was a lot, but it didn’t FEEL like it. I just wasn’t emotionally invested.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
