Five Days Missing
Caroline Corcoran
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I mean leaving on a vacation I’m all up for that, but not right after having a baby, and what friend is hiding her secret, and what could this husband of possibly done? If you like a good book that keeps you guessing from the beginning this is an awesome book to read. It left me guessing from the beginning.

I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure which way it was going to go, and I get the impression the author wasn't sure as she was writing it. I love a story that keeps you guessing until the last page and finishes with one final twist. I will definitely be looking for others by Caroline Corcoran.

A gripping thriller filled with twists and turns!

What makes a woman leave her newborn baby and flee abroad?

A real page turner.

I found this book to be somewhat boring, despite the interesting synopsis. It centers on Romilly, who mysteriously disappears just hours after giving birth to her first child. The POVs switch between her, her husband Marc, and her best friend Steffie.

I generally love a story with an unreliable narrator and you get that in this book with Marc and Romilly having very different opinions of what went on in their relationship; their friends are stuck in the middle. That being said, so much of this book was centered around repeated conversations and internal monologues about the same things. There was also a lot of mundanity related to the things they did every day.

I did find myself curious about who was telling the truth, and I was legitimately surprised by the twist at the end, but I ultimately just wasn’t invested in these characters or fully immersed in the story.

Overall, interesting plot but just too slow paced for me, and lacking a strong connection to the characters. I’d give it 2.5 stars, rounded up. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Most suspenseful plot I’ve read in a long time.
Five Days Missing takes you on a roller coaster ride of suspense. You will be guessing who’s the true bad guy around every twist and turn. It had me turning the pages as fast as I could from the start.
There was a lull about a 1/3 of the way through but it picked up nicely and I was able to finish without being disappointed.
The characters are relatable. But I warn you there are triggers, a lot of them, in this book. If you have ever been in an abusive relationship and you don’t find books that address that, this is not the book for you.

⭐️ My vanilla radar rating: foul, horrid language, slight sexual innuendo, physician and verbal abuse. If say, 50 of the F-Bombs in this book could have been removed, my star rating would have been a lot higher. Some pages the word is printed 3-5 deep in one sentence! Utterly ridiculous.

i really loved this book.
The pace of the story was good and I just couldn't wait to find out what was happening next or what had already happened. Amazing what can happen in just Five Days. Surprise twist to top off a great tale..
My first introduction to Caroline Corcoran and I was not disappointed.
Thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books UK and the author for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Each chapter is written from the point of view of one of the 3 main characters The Husband The Best Friend and The Woman. I must admit i found the first half of this book a little slow, there was a lot of speculation and repetitive thoughts as to why Romilly (The Woman) has gone missing hours after giving birth leaving her baby behind. Having said that half way through the pace of the book picks up and everything starts to make sense leading to satisfactory ending with a little twist.

Sadly I couldn’t get into this book at all. For me I have to be caught very early on in order to really enjoy a thriller and for me there wasn’t really much going on other than Romilly disappearing just after she had given birth. I read about 25% of this book but unfortunately I completely lost interest and could t see this book going anywhere.

Thank you to NetGalley the author and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review.

Thank You to the p[ublishers and Net Galley for an advance copy.
I found this to be quite an interesting read with the story told from the point of view of all the main characters.
One of the main themes in the story is about a postnatal mental condition that was previously unknown to me The relationships in a close social group are laid bare and for most of the book it is hard to see which characters representation of the facts is in fact true. Although there are various clues throughout the book there are also a few red herrings thrown into the mix. The ending is very interesting and left me a bit surprised.

5 Days Missing - Caroline Corcoran

What would make a new mother want to leave her new-born daughter and disappear for 5 days?

Sometimes we have to fight for what we think is ultimately important for our future, safety and our sanity. No matter how crazy that may make us look. But what if you’re consumed with an uncontrollable psychosis? When do we know how much to trust ourselves?

I read Caroline Corcoran’s book The Baby Group and loved it, so this was an easy choice. Again, set around having a baby, Romilly leaves her newborn in hospital just hours after her birth. Is it because she is suffering from Postpartum Psychosis as her mother did, or is there something more sinister going on?

While a little unbelievable (indeed, there is a better way to deal with things?), the plot is exciting and keeps you turning the pages well after bedtime. There are plenty of intrigues to hold your interest. We learn all about the days when Romilly is missing and when she is eventually found. Still, the focus on postpartum psychosis can get a bit much after a while. However, Corcoran certainly knows how to draw you in and make you want more; I couldn’t leave this book alone!

The characters are well-developed. We don’t get to find out about all of them, to begin with, some come into focus later in the book, but they are well drawn so that you don’t suspect that people aren’t quite as they seem to begin with. There are quite a few characters to keep up with, but it doesn’t get confusing, and some chapters are told from different points of view, which helps the story to unfold.

The ending was good and had a good twist that I hadn’t seen coming. I enjoyed this book a lot and would have given it more stars if it didn’t get just a bit tiring and feel a little unbelievable.

First book read by this author having heard good things. It was a good storyline in the main however I found there were a few parts that I questioned as being unrealistic. That said there were good amount of twists and turns to keep me guessing as well as he a good unexpected twist at the end.
I would say this is a good thriller and I certainly won't be put off trying this author again despite it not quite hitting the mark for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon for the opportunity to read and review this ARC

From reading the reviews, it appears the Five Days Missing is a bit of a marmite book. I have to say I wasn’t a massive fan. I felt the plot line moved too slowly and nothing ever seemed to happen. Yes it did cover a difficult subject but I felt it fell far short of the twisty emotional tale that was promised. Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books and the author for the chance to review.

This book took me a little time to get into - then Wham - Totally hooked.
If you like plot twists then this is definitely one you should read.
This is the type of book once you are into it you have to keep reading - but be prepared to feel tense and totally gripped.

I’d like to thank Avon Books UK and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Five Days Missing’ written by Caroline Corcoran in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Within hours of giving birth to a beautiful daughter, Romilly vanishes from the maternity ward leaving her husband Marc and older sister Loll to take care of the baby. During her pregnancy Romilly has been monitored for postpartum psychosis which affected her mother so could that be the reason for her disappearance? The midwife says it’s impossible for Romilly to have left hospital without help but who could it be? Steffie, her friend and helper in their café, her partner Adam, or even Loll? Whatever the reason, Romilly needs to be brought home to take care of the baby Marc has named Fleur.

‘Five Days Missing’ is a thriller of hidden secrets with so many red herrings and twists and turns I was kept guessing all the way through. It’s cleverly written with a strong intricately woven plot that’s told through the eyes of The Husband, The Best Friend and The Woman, that’s taken me completely by surprise. A deep dark thriller that’s as involving as it is unpredictable.

Romilly who is still in the newlywed stage goes missing right after having her first child. Her husband discovers her missing and the baby alone in the hospital room.
Why would sh leave the hospital without her baby? Why would she leave the hospital at all? These are the questions Marc, Stephie, Loll and Adam are asking themselves and each other.
The book spans the five days that Romilly is missing and the days following her being found. There is much speculation on what has happened. The story is dragged out for a while before we start to get any answers. I was intrigues by the premise and was interested to see how it all played out in the end. I just wish it wasn't such a slow burn. Otherwise I liked the story.

Many thanks to netgalley and Avon Books, UK for the arc.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a mystery/thriller about a new mum who disappears immediately after giving birth. I don't want to give too much of the plot away but I will tell you there's a fab twist. Like her previous novels, Caroline writes from the perspective of different characters. This (I think) is the first time she's taken on a male character's voice and I think she's done it incredibly well. She explores lots of themes like motherhood, friendship, familial relationships and post-partum mental health successfully weaving them into the body of the story. Highly recommend this book. And would love to see the BBC turn it into a drama. I think it would work really well on-screen.

I read this book thanks to Netgalley, so I'm not sure if
the mistakes were because it hasn't been published
yet, or if it was meant to be like this.
The story is that a mother goes missing just after
giving birth. The husband says or thinks it's because
of postpartum psychosis, is her sister and best friend
in agreement? Who's telling the truth? Then, halfway
through the story we hear from the mother who
claims to have been abused by her husband. Who do
you believe?
I felt that this could have been a good story, but there
was an awful lot of 'faff' in between anything actually
happening. A lot of thoughts were repeated.
All in all, the premise was good, but it failed to
deliver.
