Oh, the sweet solace found in the pages of "The Breakup Hair Handbook"! Jenna Luecke's whimsical guide isn't just about hairdos; it's a cheeky companion in the tumultuous journey of post-breakup blues. As someone who's faced the battlefield of heartbreak, this book felt like a hilarious friend offering both laughter and solidarity.

Let's talk about the illustrations—quirky, sassy, and downright charming. Each page is adorned with visual treats that add an extra layer of fun to the heart-healing process. The vibrant art style not only entertains but also makes the book a delightful escape, turning my post-breakup frown upside down.

The heart of the book lies in its empowering manifesto to smash the patriarchy one haircut at a time. It's a celebration of self-expression, urging readers to choose a style that mirrors their newfound independence. The fusion of style guide, catharsis, and feminist rallying cry creates a unique blend that's as refreshing as a new haircut.

One of the aspects that resonated with me was the way the book doesn't take itself too seriously. Heartbreak is messy, confusing, and downright absurd at times, and "The Breakup Hair Handbook" acknowledges this with a healthy dose of humor. It made me laugh at the absurdity of my own breakup woes, turning tears into chuckles.

While the book excels in humor and empowerment, I found myself craving a bit more depth in the heart-healing activities. Some activities felt a tad too brief, leaving me yearning for a more profound exploration of self-discovery. A balance between humor and introspection could have added an extra layer of emotional resonance.

"The Breakup Hair Handbook" is more than just a style guide; it's a witty confidante that understands the healing power of humor and a fabulous haircut. If you're ready to embrace a new 'do and a new you, this book is your go-to stylist and therapist rolled into one.

Ok read. Not great, not bad. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest reveiw. Receiving this book in this manner had no bearing on this review.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this book. I was really interested initially in this topic -- I don't think I ever would've come up with finding this book on my own (thanks NetGalley and authors!) so I knew I needed to see what this had in store.

I think we've all been there.... the sentiment of "breakup hair" is expounded upon in this book in an intelligent and meaningful way, while also retaining that entertaining and tongue in cheek element.

Thank you again. Very interesting and unique.

I m always bugging my teenager about her hair tendencies when she struggles with crisis’s. She cuts. She dyes. She experiments. And this book was basically written For her. Ironic and hilarious and blunt I loved it.

Breaking up fucking sucks! It can make you want to do crazy things like cut your hair off. And this awesome, hilarious book is here to say: just go for it! Fuck what everyone else thinks: girl, change your hair! You do you! This awesome lite feminist break-up manifesto / beauty manual is full of cute new hairdo options, with helpful breakup-stuff peppered in, like playlists to yell and sob to, thoughts on why break-ups should stay broken, drink recipes, and an awesome break-up card I wish I could send out to people in my life right now. This book is for anyone who’s contemplated cutting their own bangs in the wee hours, while trying to remember how to do their makeup without some dude’s unsolicited opinion on it. A cool design and awesome illustrations make it even more fun to flip through, and it will definitely make you smile and maybe streak your mascara.

"Too often we are led to make style choices, especially hair choices, out of fear. Fear that we won't look attractive enough, professional enough, young or old enough, feminine enough. Feat that it will look like we 're putting in too much effort or not enough." Starts The Breakup Hair Handbook after telling you to GO FOR IT if you want to change up your look after a breakup.  The book pushes the fact that YOU belong to YOU. So do what you want and try not to worry about what anyone else thinks.  Once that is out of the way, it's all about choosing what cut you want and what color you want!  In addition to great illustrations of hair styles there's also all sorts of tips and tricks throughout the book - quizzes for if you should get back together with your ex, mixtapes, and ways to heal from your grief.  I've never had a breakup (you kind of need to find someone willing to date you first, and that's where I seem to be stuck) but a lot of it is relevant to just regular day to day life too. You can get to know yourself better even without a breakup as a catalyst.

I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.

This book is beautiful!
“As women, when we want to change our hair, we’re told to stop and think through every consequence.
Whether or not it suits our face shape, whom it might displease, and what if that extra three minutes it takes to straighten bangs (fringe) utterly destroys our daily routine and eventually ruins our lives ect”

The Author takes a look at hairstyles and the urges people have after a break up, to change.
But added to that, are moments of Feminism, Insight, Care and Laughter.

Every ‘chapter’ is a gem, i could relate to it over and over. Having been through many of the cuts myself, my heart did a leap of joy for ‘growing out a pixie’ the ‘meh’ times especially.
Peppered with break up wisdom on how long it really takes for a heart to heal, cocktail recipes that include therapy, and the perfect break up songs.
Hairstylist are the heroes!

Acknowledging that no haircut, new wardrobe or self help book, can really heal a broken heart. But they can help pass the time you need.
The pop art style illustration is stunning, and i want this in my shelf.
And this book certainly gives life a boost along the way.

“too often we are led to make style choices, especially hair choices, out of fear. fear that we won’t look attractive enough, professional enough, young or old enough, feminine enough... we’re told we need to mold ourselves to someone else’s preferences, wether it be one specific someone or the whole damn world”
