I read The Stepdaughter by Georgina Cross in one sitting, I could not put this book down. I loved it. Believable story with great twists and turns. Told from different points of view which kept me visiting until the very end.
A story that well and truly gave me chills from the offset.
Any book that feature a missing child is sure to make you feel rather uneasy, but this one was captivating and riveting from the start. The characters were realistic and convincing, the storyline was full of twists and turns, and the ending was a shock for sure.
A definite must read for all thriller fans.
When 13-year-old Mia disappears from her backyard, her step-mother panics. Her husband can't understand how Mia went missing on his wife's watch.
Not everything is as it seems. Mia's stepmother has questions .... why are there messages from her husband to Mia? Why was his wedding ring found at the bottom of the pool when Mia went missing? He never told her it was missing .... what is he hiding?
The police don't seem to believe the step-mother's account of what happened. The detectives want to know what she was doing during those few minutes she went missing. But the step-mother is also keeping secrets and she dare not tell the police.
The entire family tells their own version of what happened, where they were, but they also make sure each of their secrets are well hidden.
Where is Mia? Did she walk away ... or did someone take her?
This is well-written with the story told by different points of view from the primary characters. Plenty of twists and turns keep the reader riveted. The suspense starts at the very beginning and holds steady throughout. Character development is well done, although it seems Mia was much younger than her supposed age of thirteen.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological drama. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Just when you think you know what’s going to happen then all of a sudden a twist happens that I didn’t see coming. I really enjoyed this one.

Book: The Stepdaughter
AVAILABLE NOW!!!! September 2, 2020
Author: Georgina Cross
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
Sipping Synopsis: Being a stepmother is hard job any way you slice it. But when the previous wife has passed away leaving a grieving young child and husband, it has to be nearly impossible. Vanessa tried so hard to be a great stepmother to a young girl who doesn’t want anyone to take her mother’s place. When Mia goes missing everyone wonders if Vanessa has had it with her stepdaughter and wanted her out of the way. Or did her dad do something so heinous he had to send a cryptic apology text the nigh before.
Final sipping thoughts: This was a good mystery that had me blaming everybody. I would be convinced that one person did it then change my mind and back again. I enjoyed the final twist and who the culprit was although it seemed a little silly the explanation behind it.
Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @Bookouture for an advanced copy of @TheStepdaughter

I enjoyed the suspense in this book.
Vanessa is in charge when her stepdaughter goes missing, training in their garden pool. We get to hear from the characters point of view each chapter and get to try and figure out where Mia is and why no one seems to have heard anything.
Everyone surrounding the investigation seems to know something they are trying to keep to themselves but will they be in time to save Mia? It is tense hoping that the secrets will unravel and Mia will come strolling back in, making snarky comment to her stepmum.
I liked this one - took me a bit to get into it at first, but then quickly picked up. Great storyline, good characters, and not too predictable!
A great story which seemed like it was an open and shut case. Lots of twists in this family drama. A missing child, a stepmother, a disengaged father and so many secrets. A good read.
The first book I’ve read by this author and really enjoyed it! The first quarter of the book was a little slow and took a bit of time to get into but then I just couldn’t stop reading it! I liked the fact that each chapter was told by a different character and you got their side of the story. It had a great twist at the end as well that I never saw coming
This is a total cracker of a book. Loads of twists and turns and mouth dropping moments. Tension filled and gripping if you like an unpredictable story this is the one for you.
Terrific debut from a great new writer. The small cast of characters gave the book an Agatha Christie feel. Five stars.
Vanessa the stepmother brings Mia home from school . Mia goes out for her normal afternoon swim.
Vanessa is in the kitchen when she sees smoke she goes to find out where it's coming from and it's next doors house .
Vanessa rushes back in the house out to the back garden to get Mia but she isn't there. Where is she . Has she gone of her own accord or has somebody taken her.
This is told from many points of views.
They police are called in but they don't believe Vanessa's story.
Things have not been great between Vanessa and Mia but would she harm her stepdaughter.
This is a great first book from Georgina . Will definitely read more.
Thanks NetGalley

Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book it was fast-paced, and filled with twists and turns and I never guessed the final twist. The book revolves around the disappearance and death of 13 year-old Mia who went missing from her backyard swimming pool. Vanessa her stepmother is initially the main suspect as she was last to see her alive but the climax is not what you would expect at all. Highly recommend this book!
Gripping fast paced psychological thriller filed with twist and turns. Georgine Cross knocked this debuts novel outta the park. Was kept guessing all the watt to the end.
