Kate Hewitt does it once again!!! I have learned with any Kate Hewitt novel that it’s best to go in completely blind and that is exactly what I did with The Heart Goes On! This historical romance was packed with raw emotion that grabbed my attention and held it until the last page. The characters are extremely well developed and I enjoyed the way Kate gives us two stories in one novel. Also make sure you read “A Letter from Kate” at the end! ❤️ I am so excited for the next installments in this series!

Really enjoyed this story which had the feel of a Catherine Cookson novel.. The writer vividly created the struggles of ordinary people during the early 1800s when a large number of Scots headed for the New World and a better life. Harriet Campbell's father does not think Allan MacDougall is the man for his daughter. He wants her to marry someone with his own property. Working for his father, Allan has no alternative but to join his family on their journey to Nova Scotia, determined to make something of himself and return to claim her. Harriet agrees to wait for him however long it takes, but fate steps in, forcing her on a different path.

There were many twists and turns during the read. While Harriet battles with changing situations at home, Allan and his family have to cope with a new and sometimes unfriendly environment. A great read for those who enjoy historical romance. This is the first of a three book series. - Her Rebel Heart, the second of the Far Horizons Trilogy is due out on 17th August.and have pre-ordered. Epic historical saga with two romances!

Grab a cuppa before you sit down to immerse yourself in this fantastic book, as you won't be able to put it down until you're done. This story starts in Scotland in 1819 and follows two intertwined families as they deal with the changing times. Allan MacDougall is obligated to follow most of his family to Nova Scotia where the promise of a better future awaits. His childhood friend and the only woman he's ever wanted, Harriet, is not free to follow him, staying instead with her father, who forbids their marriage until Allan has proven he can provide for her. Also staying behind is Allan's youngest siblings, Margaret and Rupert, who move in with Harriet's family.

From there we have two separate stories; one of the MacDougalls and their hardships in their new world, and the other of the Campbells who have their own troubles back home. Events span several years as Allan and Harriet deal with a long-distance devotion to each other that seems impossible at times to sustain, especially considering the difficulties in communication. Also, Margaret is courted by a dashing young merchant captain, a man who ultimately plays a much larger part in both the MacDougall and Campbell families.

The writing is breathtaking, catapulting the reader back in time so viscerally that one can truly feel every struggle these daring families endured. The end notes indicate that these people are based on the author's own ancestors, which explains the amazing attention to detail as well as the never-wavering faith and hope that is woven throughout the story. Usually I'm nervous reading "based on a true story" tales because real life doesn't always guarantee a happy ending, but rest assured, the characters in this book may suffer unbearable losses and setbacks, but they do have a HEA by the end.

The subsequent books in this series deal with the romances of some of the younger siblings of this book's main characters, tying them all together as one rambling extended family with adventures around the world. I highly recommend this book, and this series, for anyone who loves true history with heartwarming romance. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

“Far Horizons” is book one in The Emigrants Trilogy by Kate Hewitt. Set in the early 19th century, this novel is a romance, historical fiction, adventure. This is an easy quick read.

The Heart Goes On (previously published as Far Horizons in 2013) was an enjoyable read. It is described as a historical novel but I felt it was more of a romance book. The descriptions of both Scotland and Prince Edward Island in the early 1800s were interesting but I was hoping for a book with more of a historical background. The romance aspect of the book was very tame, lots of will he wait/ won't she wait. The book starts out very slow but picked up in the second half. I plan to read the next two volumes of this trilogy to see where it leads.

The Heart Goes On is a very interesting and enjoyable story. It begins in 1819 with the Scottish living on land owned by a Lord and immigrating to the new world to star over and owning their own land.

Historical details of life in Scotland and starting out in the new world were very captivating! You will get to know characters like Harriet, Allen, Margaret, Ian, and others and they will capture your heart. You will want to keep reading to find out more about them and what happens in their lives. I would consider this a light read with a happy ending! The novel is based on the real life events and letters of the writer’s relatives.

From Scotland to the New World a well written tale of two people in love who are torn apart, whilst they try to cling onto their love for each other events & people conspire against them. Strong characters with depth made this engrossing read very hard to put down. I loved both Allan & Harriet & how they both coped with all that was thrown at them. I also loved some of the secondary characters & loved that another couple also found their HEA. This is the first in a trilogy & I look forward to continuing the saga

If this is book one of a series I can’t wait for the next one. A saga that was based on a few letters by the author’s family was riveting and enjoyable.it takes place in Scotland, the Canadian Provinces, Boston and other areas of the new world. I highly recommend this novel. Fortunes are made and lost causing, the lovers who have been separated by Allan going to the new world to make impossible choices..

The Heart goes on is the first book of a series set in Scotland, on the Isle of Mull and in Canada during the 1800’s. Allan leaves the island to start a new life with his family in the wilderness of Canada, and asks Harriet to wait for him. He promises to return for her when he has settled there as her father has refused him Harriet’s hand in marriage until he has made something of himself. Harriet’s own life is hard as the woman of the house but with her father’s failing health, and money worries she needs to find a way to survive.
This is book has more focus on romance and relationships rather than the historical facts of the time but it is still an enjoyable read for fans of this genre.

Loved this book. Full of love, lies, family, adventure and most of all forgiveness.
Harriet and Allan have been friends since they were little, always together and shared a special bond. When faced with the fact that Allan's father was moving his family across the ocean to Canada, Allan realizes this is his last chance to tell Harriet that she is more than a friend. Harriet agrees to wait for Allan to return for her once he has established himself in the new land. But waiting is hard, especially when so many forces are against you. Circumstances beyond their control keep them apart, but love can overcome anything. Or can it?
The characters were great, rooted for Allan and Harriet, as well as a few others the reader meets in the story. Looking forward to Book 2.

This book is so sad, and yet so thrilling and gripping. It completely tugs at your heart strings! It's a historical novel that is set in Scotland proportion and on the other side of the ocean in New Scotland, where immigrants from Scotland are looking to form a new life with new opportunities. It gave me all of the feels. It is filled with family, heartbreak, difficult decisions to be made, dilemmas, lots of drama and trials and tribulations.

It was an extremely emotional, well written novel. I truly felt that the storytelling was brilliant. This is the kind of book that stays with you. Bravo, Kate Hewitt! I can't wair to read book number two in the trilogy.
