Daylight is a very readable, enjoyable and well written thriller with interesting characters and a credible and engaging storyline. This is the third in the Atlee Pine series, but as a new reader to this series, it didn’t take long to catch up on the progression of events.
In essence there are two plots, one which continues Atlee’s long search for her missing twin sister Mercy. As an FBI agent, Atlee is given permission to follow up on three generations of the Mafia-related Vincenzo family to find out what happened to Mercy.
Atlee’s investigation of the Vincenzo grandson Tony, overlaps with that of Army CID agent John Puller. Together they are confronted by the cold blooded murder of a colleague by a young black boy with a promising future. Many things just don’t add up – as they dig deeper into the background of the boy, the more danger they face.
As the two story lines progress, Atlee and Puller uncover a major network of coercion and blackmail, involving another group of very powerful people who would do anything to protect their secrets and finally Atlee finds out what really happened to her sister.
I imagine that there will be a fourth in the series to resolve the issues around Atlee’s family. David Baldacci uses a very clever device of creating a substantial stand alone plot whilst interweaving the story line of Atlee looking for her sister to maintain the tension and continuity through the series and to keep the reader engaged.
What a fantastic book. This is the third in the Atlee Pine series and it does not disappoint. Definitely my book of the year and I suspect until the next one in this series comes out.
FBI Agent Atlee Pine is taking some personal time to hunt down her missing sister. There's a lot going on and it very fast paced. She also meets John Puller, a character from another series of brilliant Baldacci's books. There's lots of twists and turns and you don't know quite where it will take you next.
If you haven't read Baldacci before, give him a go, you won't regret it and once you've started it's difficult to stop.
I'm not going to give anything away but this is the must read of the season!
Thanks to Grand Central Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book for an honest opinion.
David Baldacci hits another home run with “Daylight.” Baldacci is a great storyteller and the Atlee Pine series is one of my favorites of his. Atlee is a kickass FBI agent but she keeps her humanity at the forefront.
Atlee’s sister was kidnapped 30 years ago and this story serves as a background to the primary story. The ending is a cliffhanger and sets up a nice opening to the next Atlee book. “Daylight” gets a bit wordy with all of the reminders of Atlee’s previous adventures; however, if you’d never read any of the other books in the series this could be helpful. I’d recommend reading the other Atlee Pine books before reading this one.
Finished it in two nights! Unputdownable!!
Atlee Pine and John Puller come together in David Baldacci's latest offering, Daylight.
As Atlee is searching for answers about her twin sister's disappearance 30 years earlier, her travels take her into the path of John Puller as the case he is investigating overlaps hers. As they discover the links in the cases, they find a possible conspiracy that includes the Mob and high ranking government officials. This book is fast paced and full of action and suspense. I stayed up all night to finish it. As usual, David Baldacci is doing what he does best, writing a great novel that will pull you right in.
Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the ARC in exchange for a fair review.
It's been a while since I've read anything by David Baldacci, and reading Daylight I was reminded of why I had stopped. There is nothing wrong with the book. Although I haven't read the previous entries in this series it didn't take me long to catch on to what was happening. The story moves along, most of the characters are believable, some of the action scenes stretch one's imagination but are typical of the genre, and the settings barely matter, and although the scenes in the last part of the book paint a grim fetid scene, I never felt repulsed, I never smelled the smells as I do in books whose authors take more care in their descriptions. But while there's nothing wrong with Daylight, I did not find that there was much if anything that separates it from other formulaic books of this genre. It's a good but not great read but undoubtedly Baldacci fans will be clamoring for it.
David Baldacci continues to confirm his place among the world's premier suspense and mystery writers. Daylight brings together two of our favorite characters, Atlee Pine and John Puller. Individually they are exceptional people, committed to protecting our country from those who seek to bring us down. When Pine and Puller work together, the level of excitement and danger is riveting: compelling and unforgettable.
Daylight is a story which at its core is both personal, trying to locate Atlee Pine's long lost sister Mercy, who was kidnapped from her family as a child more than 30 years ago, and professional, trying to prevent those who work to destroy our democracy by blackmailing our elected and appointed leaders from being able to do so.
This book is also a reminder that however cynical today's events have made us, we must not forget that there are literally tens of thousands of dedicated public servants working for our government on our behalf, individuals who put the public interest first, even to the degree of risking their own lives.
David Baldacci has developed a stable of admirable characters in his stories but few, if any, are better than Pine and Puller.
Daylight by David Baldacci
This book is the third in a series but the first I am reading about FBI agent Atlee Pine.
The traumatized agent travels to Trenton, New Jersey, To uncover truths about her missing the twin she missed for the last 30 years. There she stumbles into John Puller, Army CID's case inadvertently and together they race against time to survive unknown enemies who seem to block their every move. After solving the case with John Puller, She also uncovers part truth about her sister's kidnapping.
The book is action packed and fast paced. As usual the author delivers a thoroughly engaging book that you cannot put down. You could fall in love with Atlee Pine ! She is so amazing from the beginning and even though she understands she is way in over her head, she handles the situation so well. Both the lead characters - John Puller and Atlee Pine are written with relatable emotions giving us insights on the story in depth.
I really felt bad that i hadn't started with the first book in the series, so i am now going to finish the first books soon! This book is worth reading and i promise you, You will not be able to put the book down once you start reading
Thank you Netgalley for my copy
David Baldacci is a prolific author whose books are reliably good. I was very pleased to receive this book to review. It is the third book in the Atlee Pine series and, unusually, I have not read the earlier books but it Is not necessary for the enjoyment of this one. FBI agent Atlee Pine, based in Arizona, is having a mini sabbatical to learn what happened to her twin sister, Mercy, who was abducted when they were both six years old. As she is following a lead in Trenton, New Jersey, she crosses paths with John Puller, who is with Army CID. As there seems to be some overlap with their cases, and they know each other from previous investigations, they agree to work together.
Puller is a great character who had his own series (which I did read) and it was wonderful having him back on the page. I really love it when authors bring characters from one series into another one - it’s like meeting an old friend again. However, from there the plot takes them both on a dark journey of murder, high level corruption and entitlement. People will stop at nothing to hide their dark deeds and Pine and Puller find themselves in the crosshairs of a dangerous killer more than once. All the while Pine is learning more about her sister’s fate - and the news is not good!
David Baldacci is a master of the action thriller and fans of the genre will love this high octane story. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and I will be keen to see what the future holds for Pine. She is a strong female protagonist who can hold her own against most and she is a relentless investigator. My thanks go to Netgalley, Grand Central Publishing and David Baldacci for a copy of the book. My opinions are my own.
Daylight is the 3rd book in the Atlee Pine series from David Baldacci.
"Atlee is following a lead to her missing sister when she finds herself in the middle of John Puller's investigation. They join forces but soon find themselves under attack. And suits high up the food chain want them to stop. Multiple times, mercenaries come after them but they will not stop until they find the truth..."
I love when Baldacci connects his characters from different series. Atlee and Puller have a great connection and fit. They are both powerful but not invincible. The story is intense from the first chapter. And the revelations about Atlee's missing sister will make you go "Wow!" Baldacci writes intense page-turners. And each book in a series adds one more layer to a character. Keeps the reader on their toes and flipping those pages. You can read this as a stand-alone but will enjoy it more if you read the first two books.
What can I say? Another breathtaking David Baldacci masterpiece in action.
Daylight is book 3 in the Atlee Pine series. Our main character, FBI Agent Atlee Pine is still looking for her twin sister Mercy, who was kidnapped when they were just six years old. Just as hope is disappearing, Atlee discovers the identity of her sister's kidnapper, and there's no looking back from then on.
The plot is based on Atlee's chance after the monster, Ito Vincenzo. It's an action-packed, hair-raising rollercoaster ride- especially because Vincenzo is not just some psycho... and so the chase unveils a layered global political conspiracy. The plot is absolutely packed full of crazy twists which were incredibly satisfying even to a frequent thriller reader like me.
Read if you're into NONSTOP ACTION.

FBI agent Atlee Pine has one mission to find her missing sister Mercy who has been missing for 31 years after being taken from her home, late at night. The experience leaves Atlee an emotionally wounded child who turns into a tough loner who wants justice for her sister. She catches a breakthrough when she traces her sister's kidnapper to Trenton, New Jersey and teams up with an old friend, CID agent army veteran John Puller who is after the same person after very different reasons. The book is Baldacci at his finest. Clear descriptions, dialogue is sharp and interesting, a rarity for a thriller novel. The places that this novel include the rough streets of New Jersey, to the high end section of New York City, a small town in Georgia, even the the Pentagon. The mystery involving the Mob, Army even the high ranking officials in the government is enough suspense to last a book, but then you add the Mercy case in the book, it becomes a ticking timebomb to solve it when the body count rises with surprising answers that actually make sense. Note: I suggest you to read first two books: Long Road to Mercy and A Minute To Midnight first since there is alot of mysteries that tie together that are answered to this book. This is Baldacci at his best: action-mystery suspense filled with human characters that show you what they are capable of and show their true colors to fill in a twisty mystery that surprised even me, a long time reader of Baldacci. He seems to get better and better with each book. By the way, John Puller has own series as well. First book is Zero Day. Love that series as well. Enjoy!
Grit and determination abound in this story. A real page turner wrought with suspense, corruption and intrigue that makes you want to keep reading.
Thanks to , Grand Central Publishing, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review This is the third book in this series and I recommend starting from book one on this series. This book is full of twists and turns and does leave you hanging on some of the mystery threads that will probably be followed up in the fourth book in this series
David Baldacci has several book series and this book is the third one in the Atlee Pine series. He is a prolific author and it is fun to get into the different series because you get to know the protagonists quite well. Atlee Pine is a very smart, likable character. There are several twists and turns in this book and I think it is the best of the three. It is important to start at the beginning of the series to get the most out of the story right from the beginning. I highly recommend this book.
Be prepared for non-stop action as you dig into this book. Being my first book from the series, it was a little difficult to get into the flow at first, but it was manageable after a while.
Agent Pine is following leads on a personal quest to find her missing sister, Mercy, in the course of investigating such leads, Agent Pine crosses paths with an Army CID officer simultaneously pursuing the same lead in an unrelated case. Indeed, after they join forces, they discover that this is a corruption of the very highest level.
With the many twists and turns in Daylight, it was definitely a page turner. The was plot intricate but not too difficult to follow, and the story was fast paced with lots of action. The writing and the characters are excellent.
I would like to thank David Baldacci, Grand Central Publishing, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Summary:
An action packed novel that keeps the pages turning.
Attlee Pine is back, still looking for her sister. Along the way she and CID agent John Puller encounter what appears to be a drug ring, but there is much more going on. They encounter one road block after another. A huge conspiracy seems to be operating with people at the highest levels. This book was action packed from beginning to end. It is the 3rd book in the Attlee Pine series but you will have no problem catching up on what happened previously. There is a huge twist at the end of the book but there is one thing that kept this from me giving it a 5*. The ending left a lot hanging that will hopefully be resolved in the next book. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Atlee Pine is the best! I looked forward to reading this and was not disappointed. This book grabs you from page 1 and won’t let you go, it’s impossible to put down. I hope David Baldacci continues the Atlee Pine series.
The Atlee Pines series is a must read! Daylight has so many twists I couldn’t put it down. Among other issues, murder and drugs play a big part in this book. Be sure to start with book #1 in the series to understand what is driving Atlee. My only problem with this book is the ending. I want to read the next book right now!
It's been a while since I have read anything by David Baldacci and after thoroughly enjoying this book I can't wait to rediscover more works by this author. Daylight offered suspense, surprises and was very easy to get into. I found myself reading late into the night as I was so anxious to follow this book to the end.
Atlee Pine is back in this third installment of the Atlee Pine series! Atlee is still looking for Mercy her sister who was kidnapped when the girls were six, Atlee was left for dead but came thru and has been looking for Mercy for most of her life. On leave from the FBI Atlee and her secretary Carol are in New Jersey following up a lead to Mercy’s disappearance, when Atlee runs into John Puller Army CID who’s working another case but the two have collided. As a fan of Baldacci’s there’s nothing I like more than the two worlds becoming one. This book has mob, politicians, murder and mayhem making it a great unput downable read! With Pullers obsessive need to work and find out the whys, and Atlee ‘s relentless quest to find her sister at any cost, these two are a great team adding to the mix Carol and Pullers brother Robert makes this one the best of the series thus far.thank you net galley for gifting ,e this book!
