David Baldacci's Atlee Pine series is a sterling example of an author having a great deal of fun creating stories, even when addressing serious topics. The third installment in Atlee Pine's journey to discover what happened to and the whereabouts of her twin sister so many years ago takes her and Carol Blum, her trusted assistant, to Fort Dix, a huge military installation in New Jersey. There she encounters John Puller, a military CID agent with the U.S. Army. Puller's appearance was briefly foreshadowed in the second book in the series, A Minute to Midnight, when Atlee mentioned that they worked on an investigation together years ago and he served as a mentor to her. Baldacci fans will be happy about the full-fledged reappearance of his protagonist from another four-book series.

Puller is investigating a drug ring operating out of Fort Dix. Atlee wants to speak to the man at the center of the drug ring because he may be the grandson of Mercy's kidnapper. He's the only living relative of Ito VIncenzo. He lives in the family home, which turns out to hold information about Mercy's disappearance, and works in the motor pool at Fort Dix. At the outset, Atlee does not suspect that he might be a criminal. She discovers that her mother played a key role in Ito's brother being convicted and sent to prison. Atlee has to piece together how Ito managed to find her family when they were supposed to be safely tucked away in a witness protection program.

Atlee and Puller decide to team up, but their collaboration is not effortless. They are an unlikely pair, adhering to and operating by different rules, procedures, and their superiors' expectations. Puller operates within the context of Army regulations -- guidelines applicable to civilians are irrelevant to him. But Atlee is a trained FBI agent bound by Constitutional principles and protections such as due process that have no meaning in the military universe. And Atlee's career is very much in jeopardy. The events of so many years ago have wreaked havoc in her personal and professional lives, and the FBI has given her a brief window of time in which to wrap up her investigation and get back to work. Or not return to duty at all. But as she explains to Carol, she just can't let go of either the search for her sister or the investigation she has gotten caught up in. "The only reason I'm an FBI agent is because I want to see people who destroy other people's lives brought to justice and pay for what they did. The want the families of their victims to have closure." In other words, she wants the families of other victims to have the one thing that has always eluded her.

Readers might be surprised to learn that Atlee is the first female lead character Baldacci has created and featured in a series. She is believable and empathetic, and readers have taken her into their hearts. She is a large and physically imposing woman with a physique enhanced by her commitment to fitness, particularly weightlifting. That was a deliberate choice by Baldacci, given that Atlee is in a profession that remains dominated by men. Her physicality is an asset to her career and helps her command respect from her male counterparts who recognize that, at least from a physical perspective, she is their equal. Atlee has worked hard to get where she is, and makes no apology for being a woman in a traditionally male job.

Which is not to save that she isn't vulnerable. Because she is. She suffered a traumatic event as a child -- Mercy's kidnapping and sustaining serious injury herself -- that motivated her to join the FBI. She is without family, having lost her parents, as well as Mercy. And she makes mistakes. Sometimes she develops tunnel vision in her determination to find answers, and she makes reckless choices, but she is a sympathetic character. Pairing Atlee with John Puller made sense. Both characters are sometimes fragile as a result of tragic familial relationships. While Atlee lost her family, Puller has never felt that he could live up to his father's example. He feels that his father will always outrank him, even though Puller is a combat veteran who was wounded.

Daylight opens with Atlee following a significant clue about what happened to Mercy. In A Minute to Midnight, she learned much about her parents' pasts. Now she uncovers what might have served as motivation for Mercy's abduction in a complex turn of events that brings more new characters into the mix. As in the earlier volumes, Atlee gets a bit sidetracked by Puller's investigation into the drug ring, but inadvertently discovers potential links between the two cases. Atlee and Puller are stonewalled repeatedly by powerful and corrupt government officials, including those running the prison system, as well as well-connected criminals.

The title of the book is significant. Baldacci picked Daylight because in this volume he moves Atlee out of the dark unknown and further into the light of truth. "Things become clear to her," he notes, as she inches closer to finding out what happened to Mercy. Many additional details about the case are uncovered in this installment, forcing Atlee to deal with learning that virtually nothing she believed growing up was actually true.

Baldacci promises that in the final installment, aptly titled, simply, Mercy, and scheduled to be released on November 16, 2021, the fate of Atlee's beloved sister will finally be revealed, her complete story told.

A great read that hooks you from the beginning! This is the 3rd in a series - this did not detract from the overall read, the book described enough of the past details to clarify.

This has a strong female protagonist, Atlee Pine, as she embarks on a personal investigation, then falls into another, deep plot.

For those who enjoy fast paced, law enforcement thrillers, check this out! I'll have to go back and read the first two in the series.

Thank you NetGalley for my free copy. The comments above are mine without influence.

David Baldacci does it again, this master storyteller can do no wrong in my eyes. In this book he produces another masterpiece which builds on from the first two books in this mini-series.

In this one Atlee is still on the hunt to find out what happened to her sister when she was abducted 30 years ago, and along the way gets involved in a case that has reverberations right through Government.

Atlee is a great character and this was a great read that I finished within 24 hours as I did not want to put it down. Even better we have a cross-over from one of Baldacci’s other series and John Puller puts in a major appearance in this book. I totally recommend this book and the other mini-series that David Baldacci has written. If you’ve not read him what are you waiting for?

I now cannot wait for the next book in the series to see where it takes Atlee next.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for providing a copy of this book for me, for an an open and honest review.

Daylight by David Baldacci is a 2020 Grand Central Publication.

Atlee Pine is finally closing in on finding answers to what happened to her twin sister- but naturally, there are complications… LOTS of complications. Atlee’s singled minded determination to find Ito Vincenzo- her sister’s kidnapper- inadvertently slams into John Puller’s current investigation. Her faux pas, brings the two together as a team, along with Carol Blum.

Little do they know that once they start digging into the Vincenzo family saga that it will lead them to a shocking conspiracy…

This is the third installment in the Atlee Pine series. I wasn’t especially impressed with the first book, but the second book convinced me to continue on with the series. This installment is action packed and has some interesting conspiracy theories, but once again, I was left feeling like something was missing- the story just fell flat for some reason- but- an interesting development with Atlee’s twin, towards the end of the book pretty much guaranteed I’ll be reading the next book in the series.

Overall, this was an entertaining thriller- still not up to Baldacci’s usual standards. I’m giving the series one more shot after this- hopefully, I won’t have to cut my losses.

3 stars

Always enjoy a David Baldacci novel, but the end of this left me hanging. Guess I have to wait for the next instalment!

Books can be inspirational, educational, and thought-provoking. All of that is good, but sometimes a reader needs to dive into one, knowing the value is just entertainment. When I saw David Baldacci’s new book Daylight on Net Galley’s list, I knew that was exactly what was in store, and I was ready.

The book begins as agent Atlee Pine and her assistant Carol Blum discover a promising clue to her very personal case of the abduction of her twin sister Mercy, never seen again after she was taken when they were six. Unknowingly in following that clue, they blow the arrest of John Puller’s case of a drug ring investigation at a military installation. This leaves Atlee and John at a dead end with both their cases.

Joining forces John and Atlee agree to help each other as the stakes escalate into a global conspiracy with people in high places in the government involved. Danger and deceit entangle them as they begin to see connections between their cases and are helped by John’s brother Robert, a computer genius and a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force. Stashed in between kidnappings and shootings are strange relationships that may or may not be part of the solution to either case. There’s the Vicenzo gangster family with one saintly member who has kept his nose out of the family business, and yet he appears to have been connected to Mercy’s capture. David Baldacci does his usual and keeps the reader turning pages to see what is going to happen next with an ending that still has me wondering. The book did exactly what I had anticipated and entertained me from beginning to end.

What a great story with such a strong female leading the way.

Atlee Pine is an FBI agent. At six years old her twin sister was abducted in front of her. All these years later Atlee is searching for the answers as to what happened to Mercy.
As Atlee works her normal cases she still hunts for those responsible.
Currently she was taken time off from the FBI but that isn't stopping her from offering her support and getting involved whether the locals like it or not.

This was my first Atlee Pine book. Now I'm going to go back and catch with the first two. It was easy to catch up but there is a lot more going on.

When will she find Mercy ? Or will she? Are the answer hidden too deep even for her?

Thank you NetGalley, Grand Central Publishing and Author for this amazing read!

Daylight was a suspenseful fast paced thrill ride filled with political corruption and non-stop action. Basically I couldn’t put it down and lost several hours of sleep turning the pages to find out what happens.
I seriously couldn't put this book down.
The characters I just couldn't get enough of!
This is sadly my first Baldacci book so now after reading this book I'm on the hunt for more!

Atlee Pine is back for the third instalment of this riveting series and is still looking for her sister, Mercy. This time she teams up with military investigator John Puller, as she zeroes in on the man she suspects took her twin sister when they were children. This also gets her tangled up in an investigation of drugs on an army base, and a government conspiracy that hampers the investigators progress.
With sidekick and co-worker, Carol Blum, at her side, Pine her usual brand of take-no-prisoners justice to a story than weaves a tight narrative from start to finish, and also sets up book four.

Atlee Pine and Carol return for another installment in the series by Baldacci. I am already a fan of this author and this thriller kept me on my toes just like all the rest! 10/10 recommend! Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for a copy of this book for an honest review.

Atlee Pine is back for another thrilling adventure with her assistant, Carol. I have read the other books in this series and I was happy that she was back on the more personal case of trying to find out what happened to her missing twin sister. Baldacci doesn't disappoint when it comes to mysteries. This one was just as fast paced and thrilling as the other books in this series. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Atlee teams up with another one of Balducci's character's, John Puller. Puller and Pine work well together and get each other out of several close calls. They do find out more about her missing sister, Mercy, but again, not all of the pieces have been put into place so I'll be waiting patiently for the next book in the series. I hope Puller and Pine get to work together again in the next book as well. I love when characters make appearances in other books! Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy of this book!

Daylight is part of a series featuring FBI agent Atlee Pine. I haven't read the previous two books in the series but I hoped this book could be read as a standalone. And gladly it was, with enough references to bring us up to speed.

Agent Pine is looking for her twin sister, Mercy, who was kidnapped when they were six years old. Years later, Atlee Pine is still traumatised by that incident and she hopes to find her lost twin someday. Her lookout for her sister crosses path with an ongoing investigations by CID agent John Puller. Joining forces with John Puller, Atlee Pine inquires into a drug dealing operation at an army base at the same time gathering info on her lost sister.

This book is an adrenaline filled, action thriller that I was really glad to read and review. I liked the working chemistry between Pine and Puller and the book was an easy read but it ends with a cliffhanger and slightly disappointingly I felt it was stretched just to have a sequel. Either way, fans of racy thrillers will enjoy this book.

David BALDACCI is one of my favorite authors. The main character of "Daylight" Atlee Pine is now one of my favorite heroines also. Atlee is a strong female lead and she is on a mission to find her sister who was abducted when she was a child. Along the way she helps solve a cover up among high ranking government employees. If you are looking for a book full of action, twist and turns I highly recommend this novel.

I loved the book. It took Atlee Pine out of her comfort zone, and moved her east to join an investigation John Puller. She and her assistant, Carol Blum were pulled off of her investigation of her sister Mercy's disappearance in Andersonville, GA to work with Puller on a case of national importance.

She has discovered the identity of Mercy's kidnapper, and he has a connection to this complicated investigation, as does John Puller's younger brother Robert.

This is one of the most convoluted stories that Baldacci has written in a while, but I couldn't put it down.

When I started this book I did not realize that it was a series. The title is Daylight but when you see it written elsewhere or is Daylight (An Atlee Pine Series, 3). So had I known that I would of read books 1 and 2 first.
Atlee Pine is an FBI agent still looking for her sister. In this book her search for her sister clashes with a high stake military search. The disappointing part of this book is that she still does not find out whether she is dead or alive.
I do love David Baldacci books and this one did not disappoint. The story is action filled, always moving and never boring.

This was my first Baldacci novel and I really enjoyed it. The quality of writing is superb! Even though this book was the third in the series, I did not feel like I missed out on anything and was still able to fully enjoy the book as previous events are recapped well. It was an action packed, page turner and I loved it!

David Baldacci continues to write incredibly well put together stories and this continuing saga is no different. A highly recommended read for those fans of the author.

When you read a book by author David Baldacci, you come to expect a certain level of writing that you know will keep you locked in for the entire book. In Daylight, the third Atlee Pine FBI thriller novel, Baldacci does not disappoint. This book can be read as a standalone, however the first two books are equally as good, so I really recommend reading them if you can.
From the very first chapter, Baldacci had me captivated by the action-packed plot. In the third book, FBI Agent Atlee Pine is following leads on a personal quest to find her missing twin sister, Mercy, who was abducted when they were both six years old. While following leads, Pine crosses paths with CID John Puller whom she has worked with on other cases and it appears that his case has some overlap with Pine’s case, so they decide to work together.
We have seen Puller before in another Baldacci series and it is nice to see him again in this book. When an author can interweave a character into two different series, I think it is magical!! It’s like revisiting an old friend. If you haven’t read the other books, Puller is a likeable character and you get to know him pretty quickly in this series. Working together, Pine and Puller uncover a gigantic cover-up and find themselves crossing paths with a threatening killer, all while Pine is trying to find leads on her missing sister!!
Baldacci is a one of the best writers of action-packed thrillers!! In this novel, the action is non-stop and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next.

Somehow, in all my reading, I have never read a David Baldacci book - until now. So for anyone unsure if they can just pick this one up without having read any other Puller or Atlee books, the answers is Yes (although it would probably be better if you did read the previous ones!) I loved this one.

Atlee was a little hard to like. She's a bit abrasive and she doesn't always think before she acts. But people like Puller (both brothers), Blum and other supporting characters easily round her out. Her search for her missing twin sister is both heartbreaking and a heart-pounding race to try to keep ahead of what everyone knows.

Add in John Puller's mystery - a young man missing, a young boy murdered and then an FBI agent. As each person of position was pulled, each person stonewalled, each dead end, I loved Puller's resourcefulness, his ability to both play nice and hold his tongue, and how well he did his job.

The overall mystery was a bit....big. It was so grandiose I was a little meh with it, but I absolutely loved Blum's role and Atlee's ability to get some answers. I'll definitely look for the next one and hope that it's more of Atlee's quest to find out answers.

Atlee Pine, Carol Blum and Robert Puller are back searching for Atlee’s missing sister. Along the way, they meet up with other agents and get involved in another mystery that no one saw coming! As usual these books are first class!

I received this book via NetGalley.
