What a ride DARK STAR RISING was! It is the perfect escape I needed. There was action, a fabulous group of characters, and pirates. What more could you possibly want! Coles' writing is fast-paced and effortlessly weaves together all the elements seamlessly in this bingable read.

Dark Star Rising was a decent sequel in the series. I felt like most of the book with both rushed meanwhile having a lot of unnecessary fluff. Pirates, aliens and a bit of aliens makes for an interesting story, however while I love a good fantasy book, I either want it to be based on science or another world entirely. This book tried to be somewhere in between which didn’t jive as well with me. I enjoyed the game rollercoaster of this book but wanted to be more attached to the characters. Thank you NetGalley and publishers for this ARC! I’ll probably read the next book when it comes out because it was gripping enough for me to want to read maybe one more.

Four stars. I wish I had known going in that this was a part of a series. That cover is absolutely stunning and I will make an effort to hunt out the first book!
