Holly Kammier http://hkammier.com is the author of three novels. Lost Girl was published in 2019. It is the 25th book I completed reading in 2023.

Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own! Due to scenes of violence, I categorize this novel as R. Shelby Day is a 22-year-old small-town Oregon TV reporter. Two local young girls, Melissa Rossi and Daphne DeLuca, are the victims of fatal stabbings. Day is drawn to the case because the two women were about her own age. The lure of an unsolved double murder and the chance to help her career motivates Day to investigate.

Most of the time, Day is accompanied by her Native American cameraman Jack. They are close friends and slowly begin to grow into something more. He wants to protect her, but Day is headstrong and determined to proceed. As much as she likes Jack, she doesn’t want romance to get in the way of her career.

Day talks with the friends and family of the victims. Even though she is warned to drop the story, she continues to pursue it. Before long, she begins to fear that she might become the killer’s next victim.

I enjoyed the 6.5 hours I spent reading this 292-page young adult romantic mystery. The Day character is a brave, headstrong, and career-focused young woman who often puts the story above her own safety. The chosen cover art is simple, but I like it for this novel. I give this novel a rating of 4 out of 5.

I am very confused on why this is not marketed as a young adult novel. I would have enjoyed it more if I knew what I was getting into with a more concise genre and description.

This book could easily be in the YA section. I connected with some of the characters but not all of them. The storyline was fast paced. I have to say the ending was very disappointing.

You know I was impressed after reading this one! At first I wasn’t sure if it would be exactly the kind of novel I like to read but then it really started to get better! The characters are very entertaining!

Took me a few chapters to really get into this book. When I did it was okay. Not a huge fan of the way it was written but again it was okay.

This book just didn't sit well with me.
I had a trouble to stick with it. But I made it, and it was just boring.
I didn't like the main character, just couldn't connect. The ending ( the killer) was as expected.
I really didn't like this one.

Shelby Day dream is to be an investigative reporter. She moves away from her domineering mom and just there day to start her career in a small town in Oregon. There is a double murder on Halloween night and Shelby is on the case. Lost Girl is a winding, twisting tale of not only trying to solve who did this horrific crime, but who is now trying to silence her.

Lost Girl was an easy read about a small-town murder of two teenage girls. The main character, Shelby Dan, is an investigative journalist who leaves her comfortable rich girl's life to pursue her career. One night when two teenage girls are found brutally murdered in their home, Shelby feels an association with the girls and is determined to find out who is behind the murders.

Jack, her cameraman, and best friend does everything within his ability to protect Shelby but she is determined to prove to everyone that she can do it on her own. She wants people to know that she is someone other than the pampered rich brat that people see her as.

As she progresses in her investigation, she receives threatening notes telling her to stay away or she will be the next victim. She continues to dig further into her investigation not realizing that the closer she is to the truth, the more personal danger she faces.

Summary: This YA contemporary is pretty well written with a good plot. An easy to read, fast-paced thriller. There is plenty of suspense and a few surprising twists and turns. The various leads and rising tension keeps you guessing who the killer is.

As her search draws closer to uncovering the twisted truth, she begins receiving ominous warnings to stay quiet and drop the story. The young journalist is in danger. Her cameraman and best friend, a person with his own secret past, says he wants to protect her. But Shelby is headstrong and dodging anything that could lead to love. She can't allow anyone to distract her as she fights for the two women who deserve justice.

She never expects along the way she'll have to stop and save herself.

Ok this was not what I was expecting at all!
It was boring to me, I really could not finish.
I think it was the main character who was a main turn off for me.

I hope I'm the future I can find a book Holly wrote that I could get into.

This is sort of a combination thriller/romance novel. I love the thriller portion I didn’t really care for the romance. I still recommend it though. If you like a little bit of mystery and mixed with a romantic aspect it’s a great novel for you.
