Wonderful series that just gets better. The characters have really developed and I like to read what they are all doing. Highly recommend this series!
Well, if you look at the dates, you'll see it took me a very long time to finish this book. I just couldn't get into A Crime of a Different Stripe for some reason. I generally LOVE Ms Goldenbaum's novels, so I'm not sure what it was about this title that had me dreading an evening spent in the company of Sam, Izzy, Nell, and the rest of the gang. The plot was good, and the premise interesting, so it wasn't the writing. Maybe I just need a break from the series. All of that said, I still recommend these books to those who love a great cozy mystery, and I hope to enjoy more from Sea Harbor in the future.
This title was given to me by Netgalley and/or the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first foray into this series. I've been wanting to try it out for a long time. I enjoyed the book quite a lot. My only complaint is that I felt it started off a bit slow.
It took me awhile to get into it. I enjoyed the mystery though and the knitting aspect. Anything having to do with yarn is great. I'm a loom knitter myself so very relatable.
I did enjoy the characters and the togetherness of everyone in the town.
Yes, I would a definitely recommend this book.
Thanks to Net Galley, the publishers, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. All opinions are my own and completely honest.
This is the first book, I’ve read in the Seaside Knitter Society series. And, to be honest, I’m not sure I’ll continue reading the books. It may have helped if I had started with the first book so that I had better background knowledge of the characters. I just never became invested in the story and the writing seemed stilted and awkward. There are plenty of positive reviews, so I encourage you to read it and decide for yourself.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
I appreciate the publisher allowing me to read this book. I love the sea harbor knitters and this is a great entry in the series.
This is a cozy mystery, and this is the 15th book in the Seaside Knitters Society mystery series. I cannot get into this book. There was parts of the book, but there was nothing I hated about the book. I think it was just ok. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Kensington Publishing Corporation) or author (Sally Goldenbaum) via NetGalley/Goodreads Giveaway in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Princess Fuzzypants here: Being a non-knitter (kitty= no opposable thumbs), some of the cozy series with yarn involves seem more heavily invested in the craft than the characters. This one never fails to delight with its core of four woman, so different in age and experience, who have become fast friends and gather at the back of the yarn shop with Purl, the kitty, to solve the problems of their small town.
There is a murder of a prominent photographer who Izzy’s husband Sam had invited, albeit reluctantly, to teach a course at their artists centre. Sam and the deceased have a history and it is not a happy one. But Sam is not the only with a beef. In fact, this man has made a career of roaming around the world leaving ruin in his path. There are many people with bones to pick, which is one of the reasons he accepted the invitation. He wants to make amends.
But someone is not willing to accept an apology. Is it one of the many women he has used and abused or someone with a professional grievance. And who is this person? How could they have such a powerful hatred that it would turn them into a murderer? It is a fascinating journey picking through the detritus of the man’s life and in the end finding something of great beauty that will emerge from it. It is sure to have the reader smiling by the end.
Five purrs and two paws up.
This is a nice installment to the series, but I found some parts to be just odd. It was not bad just not my favorite in the series.
This book was so cozy and warm. It was a perfect book for a cold night snuggling by the fire. The Sea Harbor Knitters are a wonderful group of sleuths that can solve the hardest murder mysteries around. This is book number four, I think you would enjoy it even if you haven't read the first three but I would recommend starting with book number one to get to know the characters,
This is such a fun series, and I had a great time with this cozy mystery. I loved the plot, the twists and turns, and the characters!
My rating: 3 of 5 stars, I liked it.
Book 15 in the series (book 4 with a new publisher)
I always love visiting with the core Seaside Knitters, but I do feel the cast of characters has grow a bit unwieldy as the series continues. I found myself having to reread bits trying to figure out who was talking/being talked about. If you're new to the series, please don't start here.
It is lovely to see Cass happy, with a baby on the way and all the knitters doting on her, haha. I'd have liked to see more of that, with just the original couples focused on a bit more.
I will continue to read the series, because I am absolutely invested in the main characters now.
A charming mystery with it's caring friendly characters that will make you care about this energetic group of knitters in A Crime of A Different Stripe.
When you have the book just add a cat in your lap,a warm blanket and a cup of tea and you'll have the perfect evening.
Includes a knitting pattern as well.

A Crime of a Different Stripe by Sally Goldenbaum
When a body is discovered at Sea Harbor’s opening reception for the autumn art series, the Seaside Knitters must take a break from stitching baby gear to unravel a series of secrets to solve this mystery.
There is a art show in town, but the guest speaker has turned up dead. Who knew him? An outsider to this town.
This story was well-written. It had many interesting characters, and friendly, with two expecting mothers. I liked the sea coast background.
Thanks to Net Galley for sending me an advanced reader’s copy for review.
An entertaining and well written cozy mystery. Mystery fans will not be disappointed. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.
"A Crime of a Different Stripe" brings readers of this series back home among their friends in Sea Harbor. Birdie, Nell, Cass, and Izzy (the Seaside Knitters) combine their problem-solving talents to try to solve the mystery of who killed Grant Harrison,a famous photographer. Grant comes to Sea Harbor to present a lecture series at a new art center. However, when he does not show up for his own introduction at the opening reception, foul play is suspected. Past lives and secrets are unraveled as the plot moves forward. And a few babies are born to add to the mix!
Readers of past books in the series will enjoy reconnecting with old friends in this newest release. Those new to this series will find this an intriguing and gentle read, despite the subject matter. You do not have to be a knitter to peek into the goings-on of the Seaside Knitters and their friends! This is a clean read, without overt violence, strong language, or descriptions of intimacy.
I received this novel from NetGalley and from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
A Crime of a Different Stripe is a fantastic addition to this series. The multiple narratives from the main characters keep you ingrained in the story and their lives. You don't know just the thoughts of one character; you get all of them. You learn about their lives, from having babies to their craft of knitting, to deep relationship fears and joys. Each character plays a vital intricate role in the lives of the other characters; they work, play, and live together as one big family. They take strangers under their wing and make them feel as though they are a part of everything and everyone. These characters feel grief when a stranger dies and joy when a child is born. They keep readers smiling, and at times crying. They are impossible to forget.
The small-town setting gives you a sense of closeness and life in a place where everyone knows everyone. New England is a picturesque setting for any series and ideal for this one. Add in a knitting group who love each other, several expectant mothers, a murder, and you have a combination that keeps a small town filled with life, gossip, and love.
There is little to no police involvement in this book. If readers are looking for an in-depth hard-driven murder investigation, this is not the book for them. There are suspects, perhaps more than you would expect. The evidence is found within the writer's words, but readers may need to sit back and think things over before realizing that a red herring may be more important than they thought. This is not a book that you can rush through. Readers will need to find a quiet place, a hot beverage, and the time to immerse themselves in the character's lives. This is not a stand-alone book; most readers will be lost if they have not read at least one of the other installments in this series. The knitting patterns in the back would be terrific for those interested in the craft. A Crime of a Different Stripe has an intensity you may not find in other stories of the same type. This is a character drive experience you won't want to miss with an ending that will have readers filled with joy and hope.
Dollycas’s Thoughts
Back in Sea Harbor, Massachusetts is a place I love to be. Birdie, Izzy, Nell, and Cass have become friends I look forward to catching up with when each new book comes out.
This time the Sea Harbor Art Colony is hosting a week-long photography event. Sam was asked to invite one of his mentors Harrison Grant to be the keynote speaker. The man arrives for the opening ceremony but when it is time for his speech the photographer is nowhere to be found. Sam is quite upset but is sure Harrison will show up in his own sweet time.
The next morning, while on her morning run, Izzy finds Mr. Grant, but he won’t be giving any lectures. Dead men tell no tales, but knowing there is a murderer in the vicinity, Izzy, Birdie, Cass, and Nell find themselves wrapped up in another murder mystery. They are knitting together the clues while also knitting caps and booties for a community baby shower and for the bundle of joy that Cass will soon be delivering.
Ms. Goldenbaum has a lovely writing style that draws her readers into the story and wraps them in a warm hand-knit blanket on a cool autumn night. She has created a cast diverse in age and experience that gather together to knit and for some amazing meals. They discuss the events of the day like the current murder.
These characters have continued to develop over the years but Cass is the one the changes the most in this story. She is blissfully happy in her marriage and impending motherhood. She has made a new friend and they are taking a pregnancy yoga class. I love seeing her this way and I am excited to see how she takes on motherhood.
The mystery was intriguing especially as we learn more about the victim and his past. The author throws some red herrings into the mix along with several twists. The story unfolds at a comfortable pace but I missed some of the things I have come to expect in this series. I needed more dinners together and more time at Izzy’s shop knitting. The time spent at the new art was interesting. It is quite a place.
My visits to Sea Harbor and the beautiful beaches and shoppes always end much too soon. I enjoyed A Crime of a Different Stripe very much. I anxiously wait for the next installment next year.
Once again we come to Sea Harbor and find our friends, Cass, who is now a soon to be mother, Izzy and her husband Sam, Nell and Ben, and Birdie up to their necks in the towns functions. While Sam was reluctant to invite his old mentor, Harrison Grant as the guest speaker for the art festival, he did so anyway at the persuasion of the art festival leader. But all chaos breaks loose when Harrison Grant is found murdered and the main suspect is Sam who had a reason to murder him due to something in the past. Nell, Birdie, Izzy, Cass and Ben all work together to find out who the real murderer is but it seems that there are several people who had reason to want Grant dead. Lots of twist and turns and an unexpected ending make for a great read. Sally Goldenbaum again takes us to our familiar friends and weaves a tale well worth reading. I highly recommend this book. I want to thank Net Galley and Kensington for the chance to read this e-book in exchange for an honest review.
Love, love, love this series! The Seaside Knitters is a diverse group of women who investigate mysteries, share deep friendship, and love good food. And, there's the knitting shop resident cat, Purrl. As the series has grown, so have the characters, with the addition of new ones along the way. The deep bond between these people is touching and one that anyone would covet. I especially enjoy reading about their Friday night dinners. In this episode, a well-known photographer is found murdered outside a reclusive resident's home. The knitters set out to investigate the death. And, one of them (Cass) is nearing the end of her pregnancy, so that's an additional story line. An excellent read, as always! Keep them coming!
