This is the first book in Lindsay McKenna's new Silver Creek series. The series starts with the introduction of Leanna Ryan. Leanna Ryan has lived in coastal Oregon since a traumatic event during her teens, but now her hometown has started to feel like a prison. So, Lea, a master carpenter and wood sculptor, decides to back up and move to Wyoming. Wyoming has always captured her imagination.
She begins working for Logan Anderson, who is generous and fair, but eyes show a sadness that she can relate with. Logan is impressed with Leanna's carpentry skills and feels an attraction to her beauty. Unfortunately for the characters, but great for the storyline, there have been disturbing events happening around the ranch. A series of incidents keep the action flowing in the book as Lea and Logan grow closer together. The book has an excellent pace and a romance that is sure to appeal to a variety of romance readers.
I was provided a copy of Silver Creek Fire by NetGalley for an honest review of the book.
Leanna Ryan is starting over and she takes her exceptional carpentry skills right with her. She gets the perfect job as she starts her new life in Wymong after leaving Oregon. She will be working on remodeling a ranch. She intends on focusing on her work, but is distracted by the ranch's owner, Logan Anderson. What is more is that she affects Logan at well. The two dance around their attraction.
However, a series of "accidents" begin to happen, including almost crashing her car due to a hit-and-run. Is that the only strange circumstance following Lea? Whatever the case, Silver Creek is Logan's home, and he just might want it to be Lea's home as well. This slow burn romance also has plenty of suspense to keep the story interesting.
Many thanks to Zebra and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
A sweet romance, the type I've come to expect from Lindsay McKenna over the years...some of the bits are over-developed but overall a very enjoyable read.
Emotionally thrilling, action packed and intriguing adventure filled with witty and engaging charters, heart racing twists and exciting passion. An edge of your seat thrilling journey from beginning to end.
Good plot, rotten heroine. I really found her annoying, to the point that I had a hard time finishing the book. The story itself is good, but the character is immature and wishy-washy.
I requested this eARC because I was feeling nostalgic about reading small town western romances - and lo and behold SILVER CREEK FIRE dropped on my Kindle after I requested it on Netgalley.
Lea, a woodworker, is just shifting to a whole new town-to try a move on from a past trauma-and her mistrust of men. She is welcomed to her new town by being run off the road; and then rescued by her new boss; a man she instinctively knows is "not like all men".
I really wanted to enjoy this one-but Lea made it really hard-she not only ran hot and cold; but for a grown woman; she did really act immature for her age. Plus, the plotting of the book was sketchy -the pacing had me starting and stopping the book multiple times.
[this is a pet peeve of mine; I love to read a book through, especially if I am in mood to read; and then comes a book that does not cooperate with my mood.]
While I am not a fan of the insta-love plot twist; Logan was one of the positive aspects of the book along with a wonderful collection of secondary characters who had me invested-may be enough to have me pick up the next books in the series.
Time will tell.
Unfortunately I DNF'd this title at the 20% mark.
I couldn't connect with the characters and I found the writing style choppy and boring.
Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for providing me with an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Great promise…
I picked up this read with great promise – an author I’ve read and loved before as well as a blurb that tempted great characters with a troubled route to love. This story had so many good elements that I was disappointed that it didn’t hit the mark for me. Was it the characters themselves or the execution that felt stilted for some reason. Either way I found myself looking forward to the happily ever after, which kept me reading even as I was tempted to stop.
I will file away this read under ‘great synopsis, not for me execution’ even as I know I won’t resist future stories from this author in the future. If there is more in the series I will definitely try again, knowing this is an author who can deliver…
I love Lindsay Mc’Kenna’s books.
And I was really looking forward to this one but ...
I just didn’t enjoy it.
I usually get lost in the romance and action of her stories. This one, I kept getting pulled out of the story because she was making a point about feminism, men, #MeToo movement, etc.
I felt like I was being lectured at. And I found it jarring. Maybe, because she was making the same point with each character.
Also, huge plot points (no I’m not going to get specific here) took place off the page. We’d hear about them in passing, instead of being present as they happened.
Finally, the hero tells someone else about the heroine’s past (offscreen) and without her permission! The author tries to cover it as his “mother hen” complex. But I read it as a huge breech of trust.
Next book please!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
After reading all of the Wind River books, I was excited to see this one close to the same group but with a new group at Silver Creek!
Both Logan and Lea had past trauma that brought pain and sadness to their lives and they didn't think they were going to move on from those hurts until they met. I liked that they were very slow in getting to know each other and Logan was very respectful of personal boundaries with Lea. Recent events were mentioned with the MeToo# movement so that was a major affect on their interactions.
It is sad to learn that someone can get your mineral rights even if you own the land and that just doesn't seem right. Fracking was a major issue in the storyline and I really didn't know much about it beyond it was not good for the land or the water. At times, it got a bit much and felt preachy but that is just me - I don't need a second or third repetition of something.
When Logan broke his ankle, I could feel his pain as I went through that surgery and recovery and I had to chuckle when he was back on the horse after his cast was taken off!
I was glad that the issue with Polcyn was not dragged out into another book and resolved in this one. Also, when they mentioned that neighbor, Chase was looking for a master gardener, I was hoping that we would get his story! Loved the little bit that we saw him and his Mama Mary and would love more of them.
Leanna “Lea” Ryan is trying to leave her past behind her. She’s dreamed of living in Wyoming since reading books when she was young. Lea gets her chance at her dream when a job presents itself. Logan Anderson is a former military. He runs the family ranch that’s been passed down through generations. Logan hires Lea to come do some work on his house. Together they’ll face danger from his enemy. Passion ignites and could turn to love if they can over come their past pain. Lea and Logan just may find a SLLVER CREEK FIRE.
Lyndsay McKenna first book in her Silver Creek series is filled with passion, love and danger. SILVER CREEK FIRE takes over where the Winder River series stops. Silver Creek is an environmentally conscious community, who are looking toward the future of the area. The main characters views of the world are very worldly and similar. A sensitive cowboy whose past pain has become less through the years. A young woman who is wanting to change her life from being scared of everything and come back to some resemblance of the young girl she used to be. Their love will help them overcome their painful pasts to find the true love they thought they’d never find. Lyndsay McKenna’s new Silver Creek series and the first book SILVER CREEK FIRE are a MUST READ.
Terrific book. Lea is a master carpenter and sculptor who learned her trade at her father's side. When she was thirteen, a traumatic event left her wary of men, and her home and work became her whole world. A job opportunity in Wyoming gave Lea the impetus she needed to break out of her comfortable rut. At the same time, her phone conversations with her new employer made her feel comfortable with that decision.
Logan took over running the family ranch when his parents retired. The property has been in the family for generations, and Logan is thrilled to have someone of Lea's skill to do the ranch house's desired renovations. The renovations aren't all that's on his mind, though, as someone is determined to take the ranch from him.
The relationship between Lea and Logan got off to a rough but sweet start. Just as she arrived at the ranch, Lea's truck was involved in a hit-and-run accident. Logan was the first on the scene, and his caring and concern immediately gave her the sense she could trust him. Drawn to Lea the moment he met her, Logan described her effect on him as "Irish fey magic." I loved the way they connected during the ranch tour, bonding over their love of the land and views on the care of it. As they work together on the remodel, a deep friendship forms between them. I loved Logan's sensitivity to Lea's wariness and his respectful treatment of her. The strength of his growing feelings for her surprises him, filling the holes left by his wife and daughter's deaths. He is reluctant to say anything to Lea for fear of scaring her off, so he keeps his feelings to himself. Lea has never had a man affect her the way Logan does. Like Logan, she keeps her feelings to herself, not wanting to endanger what they do have. It takes a serious injury to Logan to break through the walls that keep them silent (thank you pain drugs!), and they agree to see where their feelings take them. Again, I loved how Logan's sensitivity ceded control of their progress to Lea. At the end, a dangerous situation reminded both that life could be uncertain and that love was worth the risk. The ending was romantic and perfect for Lea and Logan.
The suspense of the story was excellent. Logan's conversation with Lea clearly illustrates the problems caused by a man determined to bring fracking to Silver Creek. Knowing about the shady tactics used in other places has Silver Creek residents on their guard. The hit-and-run attack on Lea at the beginning of the book is one more suspicious incident that Logan blames on Polcyn and his attempts to get Logan's land. The sense of impending trouble intensifies throughout the book as small annoyances take on a broader meaning. Things come to a head with a danger-filled confrontation. I loved Lea's part as the fierce protectiveness she felt for Logan and the ranch overcame her caution and wariness. I was on the edge of my seat until it was all over. I loved the twist that brought the final resolution.
A big part of this story was the theme of caring for the land. In addition to the issue of fracking, forestry, organic agriculture, and beekeeping were also touched upon. I especially enjoyed the parts about the various groves of trees and their properties. I found the hint of mysticism in the fairy stories and Lea's work with the wood fascinating. I also liked hearing about the community and its care for all of its residents. The tiny houses for the vets, the shelters, and other locally sponsored charities show what is possible when people work together for the greater good.
Silver Creek Fire by Lindsay McKenna had a good story but was a disappointing and tedious read. The main characters Lea and Logan were well developed characters and I enjoyed their love story. What I found tedious was all the agenda issues that the author felt she had to hammer the reader with. A list of this is: Fracking, environmental issues, Afghanistan, #metoo, viola, veterans, abused women, and the list can go on. I am used to an author throwing in a current issue, but it is generally mentioned a few times and not repeated and thrust in my face over and over and over…. I enjoyed the story itself but had to skip past a lot of the authors issue agendas and skim the book for what I was looking for. I have read many of Lindsay McKenna’s books but this one was a disappointment and a struggle to read. It would have been a good romance book if all the agenda distractions were removed.
I was given an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
Silver Creek Fire by Lindsay McKenna was a clear disappointment from an author I usually really enjoy. The story was a good one. What I didn't like was all the preaching. A little bit goes a long way and this book had way too much. It could not have been more politically correct if she tried, not that I mind that, but much of it had no place or went on far too long. The story would have been great without it. I was disappointed, as this has not happened with McKenna before.
I was invited to read a free ARC of Silver Creek Fire by Netgalley. All opinions contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #silvercreekfire

Logan lost his wife in a car accident and his newborn daughter 3 days later when he was just 23 years old. He's continued to work and expand his family ranch in Wyoming, and now at 30 yearns for something more. He hired master woodcrafter, Leanna to refinish his cabinets, along with a myriad of other woodworking projects.
Ever since Lea was attacked and beaten by male classmates when she was a teenager, she's been wary of men. She's lived a cloistered life with her parents ever since. But there was something about Logan to engage her curiosity and leave her home in Oregon. His soft and gentle nature shown through in her first phone conversation with him about the job.
They each learn to accept their pasts and move beyond them, envisioning a new future. When surrounding ranches are threatened by a man determined to get valuable minerals rights by fracking, tensions escalate. As they face attacks and an uncertain future, their friendship advances and at a crucial moment, profess their love for each each other.
It was an enjoyable story, but I felt the environmental discussions overdone as well as recapping past events that shaped the characters into who they are today. All in all I'd give it 3.5 stars.
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
Lindsay McKenna is a master at writing stories with characters who overcome trauma and have resilience. Leanna Ryan is such a character in Silver Creek Fire who does it with grace as well. Wild Goose Ranch owned by Logan Anderson is to be her home for the next year. All is not well on the ranch though Logan is doing his best.
I liked these characters and the secondary characters too. The main characters are well-developed with the town people and the other ranch employers not as fully. As this is the first book in what I hope will be a new series there is time for that in the future. The town and the surrounding areas are a places that one would want to settle down in. The beauty of the area is described so I want to take a trip to Wyoming to experience it as Leanna did.
Early on you can see where this story is going, who the “villain” will be. So as far as suspense it is not as strong as in some other books by Ms. McKenna. The romance builds slowly which is realistic. I find this to be the type of romance I enjoy, not the instant lust/love ones.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well told romance with likable characters in a beautiful serene setting. Since I won’t be able to make it across country to Wyoming anytime soon I hope that Ms. McKenna will give us more of Wild Goose Ranch in the Silver Creek Series soon.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Leanna, Lea, wants to try out her wings and head to Montana. It's been her dream for years. As a master woodcrafter, she's going to interview a long time rancher to do some work for him.
Logan knows tragedy and heartbreak, After seeing some of Lea's work, he's intrigued and wants her to do some special projects for his home.
Their instant attraction lands Lea the job and they both respect each other enough to make sure the attraction is two sided. Learning about each other, they feel a connection that only increases as they help each other get over some tough times on the ranch. Injury and sabotage are lurking and culminates with a murder attempt.
Will Logan and Lea be able to solve the mysteries that keep cropping up on the Wild Goose Ranch? Will love be able to rule when hate comes to call?
LIndsay Mckenna just knows how to spin a tale. Love, suspense, danger, redemption., and good triumphing over evil. This book has it all. Discussion about hot political topics need to be normalized. Ms. Mckenna touches on some in this book in a way that makes the topics understandable.
This author didn’t shy away from current events, even with a small town, rancher setting. Instead, she used some very important ones to create strong female characters. From Lea to Maddy to Poppy, these women are not doormats, and the men of this story really aren’t cavemen either. Logan’s been through terrible loss, but he understands that progress is necessary and both he and his neighbor, Chase, are already thinking about the future and what legacy they’ll leave behind. Of course, that legacy doesn’t mesh with what one person wants. And that person will stop at nothing to get ahead. As Lea and Logan learn more about each other, soothe their past hurts, and become more than friends, someone is plotting against them. That someone needs to be stopped before it’s too late, and these men and women seem to be up to the challenge.
This isn’t a typical rancher read and it’s got a little something for everyone: some romance, suspense, and danger tossed into the perfect mix that will keep you hungry for more. Everyone feels realistic, strong, and willing to fight for their homes and lives. I found myself on quite the ride here, and I’m interested to see where we go next.
This is a bittersweet book title I would say with all the fires that have been raging in the last few months. I also am glad though I got into this one at the beginning of the series being I am funny most times on that. Lea does have a talent I do believe is a lost art so it made this even more interesting. Her boss does capture your heart in that you know Logan is the kind of guy that would be a forever kind. It starts out as she goes there right at the first an incident happens and a puzzle starts to form. As you get deeper into this one it also grows with anticipation on the romance part but also who is the danger and when will it strike again. Wanting the answers I did not let go any time soon. Can things come together for them or will it all come apart is what kept going through my mind. As a reader we want it all but the danger and spice keep us wiggling in whatever position we are reading in. Oh joy this one is a keeper but now I want to see more from this series.
