I love this book so much! It was the first time I've read a book by this author and she didn’t disappoint me at all. What I loved about this book was the storyline. It flowed so seamlessly. I felt like I was in the book. I absolutely loved all the love scenes. Such a fantastic book!

This was an absolutely lovely follow up, even if it wasn't the Jesse book that I was hoping for (that seems to be the next and probably final book in this series).

After last book with Evie's amnesia, this novel is a lot more chill, even if it does start from the afterparty from Sam winning his Oscar. I mean, it's not like we actually see Sam winning an Oscar.

What we see is Amanda Queen looking to sneak out of his bedroom after what she sees as a potentially ill advised one night stand but a beautiful memory. Because she doesn't have the time to make it any more than that. Not given that she is a personal assistant to one of Hollywood's biggest D list divas.

Nonetheless, their paths cross again when Amanda is one of the guests at a wedding that is held at Sam's family ranch. And it is so lovely to get to go there again. We see Evie and Zack again, and of course Jesse. And being in Miss Leona's kitchen again is just as soothing and homey as it came across in A Cowboy To Remember.

This is a lovely series and I'm seriously looking forward to getting to read the next one.

I liked this second book of the series more than the first book in the series. I liked the interactions between Sam and Amanda. I enjoyed watching their friendship go from one night stand to friends to lovers. I was very invested in their HEA. I love the support characters, although there are quite a lot of them.

One thing I did not like, this is the second book that relies heavily on jealousy between woman as the conflict. I know that is a real thing that happens in real life, but I hate the perpetuation of it in media.

Amanda moved to California to take her shot as a writer, but is stuck as a personal assistant to a very demanding Diva. Dru is verbally abusive and uses Amanda for everything. Amanda works hard to keep a few things private and just for herself, like her friendship with up-and-coming star Helene Sawyer, knowing that Dru would try to use that friendship to get ahead in Hollywood.

Helene invited Amanda to a couple Oscar after-parties, where she met and spent the night with the very fine, newly-minted Oscar winner Sam Pleasant. Sam is taken with the woman he only knows as Cha-Cha and vows to track her down. So imagine his surprise when his mystery woman shows up on his family’s ranch for Helene’s wedding. Soon the pair is flirting and developing a friendship.

If the Boot Fits is a delightful retelling of the Cinderella story with Amanda playing the overworked, under appreciated main character and Sam her Prince Charming. While there is no glass slipper, there is an accidentally stolen Oscar. And this Prince doesn’t solve all of Amanda’s problems by sweeping her off her feet and marrying her! Amanda is TOUGH! She is strong and capable, but overworked. The years of abuse from Dru have worn her down and she’s afraid to leave for a few reasons - first and foremost - she needs a paying job. But she also knows Dru has the capability and twisted mindset to ruin Amanda’s chances for another job.

While Amanda’s job is an important factor in shaping her life and how she ends up at the ranch a second time, I love that so much of the book is dedicated to Amanda and Sam’s developing relationship. While there is an immediate and strong mutual attraction, they take things slowly (other than the first night). They spend time together learning about one another. They connect on a deeper level, understanding one another. They are both genuinely kind and caring people, with an incredible synergy.

One of the best things about If the Boot Fits is the level of trust between Sam and Amanda. This allows them to confide in one another and develop a deep bond rather quickly. And because of this, Dru’s machinations aren’t even a factor in Amanda and Sam’s romance. They support one another throughout - are patient and kind, never doubting, even when things look suspicious.

If the Boot Fits is a wonderful, slow burn romance between two amazing characters. I highly recommend you pick it up today!

My Rating: A- Enjoyed A Lot

I’m a huge fan of Rebekah Weatherspoon — she constantly delivers sexy, funny books with ~immaculate~ pop culture references that I am 100% trash for! If The Boot Fits was exactly what I needed to read this week, & I couldn’t read it fast enough👏🏼 it’s the *perfect* book to read rn— a low angst but ~high~ yearning modern Cinderella retelling set on a ranch!!! Like what more could we ask for??

If The Boot Fits tells the modern day fairytale between the Oscar winning actor Sam Pleasant (it’s CONFIRMED via twitter that he’s a John Boyega look alike🥵) and Hollywood assistant/aspiring screenwriter Amanda McQueen🧡 this book is SEXY, this book is SOFT, and the banter is A1! Here is but a *small* sampling of the things you can look forward to in this newest Cowboys of California installment:

🧡lots of cute dog content
🧡a hero who is ~gone~ for the heroine from day one
🧡several Bachelor/Bachelorette references
🧡a heroine who asks her man IF HE VOTES!!! #queenmoves
🧡an excess of sci-fi nerdery👏🏼
🧡a PRIME horse riding hero

Happiest release day to Rebekah, and thank you so much to netgalley for my review copy🥰

Amanda Queen is the personal assistant to one of Hollywood’s biggest divas–she has no time for anything even remotely resembling a social life. So when she wakes up after a one night stand with Sam Pleasant, winner of a new Oscar and an upcoming star, she sneaks out of his hotel room, determined to leave it as a beautiful memory. But fate intervenes when she finds out that her friends wedding is set at his family’s ranch. Thrown together again can they ever make a relationship work between them? Well, they will if Sam has anything to say about it…

I really wish I’d read the previous novel first! This one does pretty well as a standalone but my gosh, I definitely feel like I’m missing out by not reading Evie and Zack’s story. This family is so close and they spend a lot of time on page so there were some bits where I felt like I was missing an inside joke–but that fault was entirely mine and I’ve already resolved to amend it by buying and reading the first one soon!

I loved how right from the start Sam was all for finding Amanda and getting to know her. He was enchanted by her from the very first, calling her Cha Cha and admiring her dancing and laughing. It was so sweet how taken he was with her. Amanda is a bit more reluctant but you can clearly see the attraction between the two of them.

One of my favourite aspects was that Amanda is plus-size and it just wasn’t a thing in this book. Amanda is very confident in who she is and whilst Sam comments on liking her curves, that’s all he thinks about it. The only issue that ever comes from it is from Amanda’s boss, and she is very clearly in the wrong and very clearly a bad guy about the whole thing.

If the Boot Fits is a brilliant retelling of a well-beloved fairy tale with plenty of twists and a very sweet romance. Overall I greatly enjoyed it, it was a really quick and fun read. Rebekah Weatherspoon has a very easy and entertaining writing style–the brothers in particular have a lot of funny banter between them. And its clear that Sam and Amanda make a very fun-loving and happy couple and I was cheering them on right from the very start. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a happy read with a bit of fairy tale magic to it.

Many thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I particularly liked the protagonist in this one. Her strengths and confidence were well balanced with her fears and foibles, and she wasn't afraid to control the pace of the relationship with the hero. Given how the couple meets, I thought the fairly slow burn nature of the story was kinda funny, but I think served the Cinderella framework of the story well. Like the first book in the series, I thought the pacing was somewhat inconsistent, but less so this time around, and the general timeline of the story felt faster. There wasn't much of a comeuppance in this one for the most villainous character, which would have been satisfying. There was empathy for why/how she got the way she was, even though it was acknowledged that she was an adult now and her behaviour was made up of her choices at this point.

Getting to a HEA for the third brother in the next book is going to take some work...

4 stars: Great! Might re-read.

This was a lot of fun! Somehow I missed that this series has some loose connections to fairy tales (Sleeping Beauty for book one, Cinderella for this one), but maybe I read it before and just forgot. The connections to Cinderella are so seamlessly woven in, I didn't notice them until I finished. I loved ALL of them - the witchy boss in the stepmother role, the animal connections, etc. Amanda is a delight in this book, and I enjoyed the romance. It was great to spend time with the Pleasant family again, too. I am eager to get to Jesse's story next. If you are looking for terrific romance stories with cowboys and/or Black characters, be sure to pick this one up. (Language, sex)

First off, can we say yes for the heroine being a chocolate thick size 20 woman. Although I enjoyed the first book in the series, this one with Sam and Amanda is turning out to be my favorite couple. I saw a lot of myself in Amanda. And her boss was just the devil incarnate. I still can't stand her. I haven't' reading books real fast since the end of march, and I enjoyed this book so much I flew right through it. I loved the characters, as well as the flow of the story. The characters were very relatable. This was definitely an enjoyable book, and I can't wait for the next book from this author as well as this series.

I'm a huge fan of this author but this series has just been ok for me. I LOVE the concept but something has been off about the first two. In this case, it took me until 30%+ to actually care about either of the MC's. That's when I finally started to see their banter with each other vs just being in their heads. In the case of Amanda, I wanted to love her but the excuses she made for her boss were just too much. I was OK with her being stuck in a job that wasn't her dream, because reality, but the justification she used for absolutely awful behavior from Dru (without some major previous trauma she needed to overcome) just didn't square for me with the vibrant, witty person she was made out to be. I totally bought how Amanda and Sam fit for each other and were that missing piece. Loved the family and friends as supporting characters. And really appreciated that the way they overcame the conflict was not totally predictable. All that being said, I'm making grabby hands for Jesse's book and would still reco this book and series to most people.

If the Boot Fits definitely worked for me better than book 1 in the series. That being said, I did still find the pacing a bit off, especially in the final chapters. But beyond that, most of the book was a delight to read. Even if I did want some more time spent with Amanda and Sam actually, you know, together. I guess I've been spoiled by Weatherspoon's previous high-heat books because these trad pub slow burn, lower heat books are not quite hitting the same spot for me. But that's more of a me thing than an issue with the book itself -- different heat levels for every reader and all that.

I featured If the Boot Fits by Rebekah Weatherspoon as book of the day across all my social media platforms and included it in a roundup of new releases.

Rebekah Weatherspoon returns to Pleasant Lane with Sam Pleasant to find his happy ending with Amanda McQueen. Sam is the baby of the Pleasant brothers and just had his first Oscar win, and during an after party he meets Amanda whose vivaciousness while dancing catches his eye and refuses to let go. They have a one-night-stand where Amanda refuses to share her name because she’s used to and comfortable blending into the background, but she accidentally steals Sam’s Oscar statue when she grabs the wrong swag bag. She thinks returning the statue to Sam’s agent will be the end of things, but when they run into each other and he rescues her from a bad day, they quickly develop an emotional connection.

I had a lot of fun with this book and especially love seeing Amanda’s confidence and assurance in her beauty. She is dealing with a toxic work environment and in some ways feels stuck, especially with how being Dru Anastasia’s personal assistant leaves her no time for her screenwriting dreams. But she has a great friend in Helene and I loved the rapport she develops with the Pleasant family.

The romance that develops between Amanda and Sam was so sweet and full of fun banter. One thing I especially appreciated was how much Sam basically worships Amanda and has many moments where he basically jaw-drops because he finds her so beautiful. He is so caring and respectful of her limits with regards to being in the public eye.

This was all around a sweet romance with very low angst and lots of fun banter. If you’re looking for a light escapist read, this definitely fits the bill!

If the Boot Fits by Rebekah Weatherspoon
Cowboys of California #2

What fun this book was! There is definitely a bit of the fairytale vibe in this one and it was a joy to read!

What I liked:
* Amanda: strong, talented, works hard, caring, capable, beautiful, confident in many if not all things, a delight and delightful.
* Sam: gorgeous, talented, loves deeply, Oscar winner, caring, confident, intriguing, and so much more!
* The introduction – what fun!
* That both H/h were nice people
* The contrast between Amanda and Dru, the woman she worked for
* Helene, friend to both Amanda and Sam
* The families of both Sam and Amanda
* That I needed to look up terms I was unfamiliar with (triangle braids & Hotep…perhaps others) and through this learned and grew
* That this felt/is an OwnVoice story and as such gave me a different perspective
* That there was a HFN/HEA for the couple
* Knowing that Jesse, the third Pleasant brother, will get a book of his own soon.

What I did not like:
* Dru – perfectly evil though how Amanda put up with her so long boggles the mind!
* Having to wait for Jesse’s story…and wondering if the series will end after Jesse’s story or if others mentioned in this book might show up in books of their own.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series/by this author? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for the ARC – This is my honest review

LOVED! I enjoyed the first book in this series but I enjoyed this one more! Amanda was amazing. She was so relatable as a heroine and her struggles trying to balance her dreams with reality. The chemistry she had with Sam was great. I liked that they discussed their hopes and dreams and what they were looking for in a relationship. Sam showed his worth as a hero by respecting Amanda's requests and not pushing her past her comfort zone.

Amanda McQueen works as a personal assistant to one of Hollywood’s divas. She endures the verbal abuse of working with this actress because she knows it’s temporary. Amanda left her hometown to become a screenwriter. When the opportunity arises to attend a Hollywood party, Amanda takes it and parties with the beautiful people. Her goal was to relieve some stress and have a great time. She never expected to meet Sam Pleasant or spend a steamy night with one of the hottest actors on the screen. The next morning Amanda disappears, and Sam has no idea who she is or how to get in touch with her. They spend an explosive night together, and Sam wants to see the energetic beauty again. When they bump into each other by chance, it is quite apparent that Sam and Amanda are very attracted to each other and both want a deeper relationship. When their association is leaked to social media out of spite, Amanda’s fears their love affair has come to an end. Sam is a man in love and refuses to let that happen.

Sam is an actor who wins his first Oscar. He has always wondered what it would feel like to reach this level in his career. Although Sam is proud of his accomplishments, he is uncomfortable with the fame that accompanies the Hollywood limelight. Amanda is a plus-size beauty who is comfortable in her skin. She knows who she is and what she wants out of life. Her goal is to become a famous screenwriter, and nothing will deter her from that path. Especially her present employer, whose daily rants are to tear her down.

Ms. Weatherspoon is two for two with IF THE BOOT FITS, her second book in the Cowboys of California series. Amanda and Sam are an unlikely pair that sizzle in this page-turner. Their story is well-written, amusing and romantic. Their interactions are flirty and vivacious. Amanda feels out of her league with a man of Sam’s wealth and background. But this sensible man is seeking an equally sensible woman to build a future. So this plus-size Cinderella gets her prince and lives happily ever after. Being an excellent writer, the author includes glimpses of familiar characters throughout the book. If you want to know more, you have to read the story.

IF THE BOOT FITS is an excellent addition to the Cowboys of California Series. But the passion doesn’t end here. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for Jessie Pleasant. There is a romantic inside this gentle giant and an aura of mystery. And his story is coming soon!

I have to state that I love retellings or modern takes of fairy tales. Which is why I picked this book. I loved Amanda and her fearless drive to succeed in Hollywood by taking an assistant job for a snotty actress. Never knowing she will fall for Sam, who just won an Oscar, at a Oscar party. The chemistry between them was hot! They clearly were meant to meet again by chance and to fall for each other. My only issue with the book was that the villain wasn’t too evil and I must have missed the Cinderella references because I didn’t see much of it. Otherwise it was a fantastic book and I’m looking forward to the next one with Sam’s brother Jesse.

I received this ARC from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review and opinion. Thanks for my copy.

I squealed when I got an ARC for this book; I adore Rebekah Weatherspoon's books.
I adore how sex-positive her main character's tend to be, in this case Amanda describing her "walk of shame" as a "strut of triumph" hah. Get it girl, we love that.
I also looooooove how respectful her male MCs are and that they understand how to be assertive without pushing it. They communicate and listen and I am
HERE 👏 FOR 👏 IT 👏
He wasn't sure what exactly had gone wrong. Not that it mattered. Amanda had told him where she stood and all he could do, what he planned to do, was respect that.
YES
My only gripe with this was that I really didn't understand one of the big conflicts.
🛑Slight Spoilers Ahead, Ye Be Warned🛑
For some reason, Amanda is hiding her job from him? But...why? She's an assistant to an actress. That's not an embarrassing job. There's no real reason not to tell him, and it just didn't make sense at all.

Overall, I loved this. I'm a hoe for Rebekah Weatherspoon's stuff and I'll eventually get to all of them.

I enjoyed this book better than book 1. The pacing was more consistent and there was way more chemistry between Sam and Amanda. It was sexier too. But aside from its comparisons to book 1, I just loved our couple.

Amanda was amazing. She was confident and ambitious. She knew what she wanted out of life and did what she needed to do to get there. She had a great support system in her parents (moral and emotional). And she had so much love for herself.

Sam was sweet and sexy and I loved thay he went for what he wanted with Amanda while also respecting her boundaries when she was unsure about what she wanted to happen between them.

I also loved that she was plus sized but that it wasn't a major plot point.

Definitely a fun, cheeky Hollywood romance.

I’ll admit, the first book in this series didn’t really work for me. However, I went into If The Boot Fits hopefully and I definitely enjoyed it more. Sam and Amanda were both delightful characters and I loved watching their relationship develop. This was the type of one-night stand I enjoy. Neither felt guilty after and running into each other again was a plus. I totally understand Amanda’s hesitancy in getting involved with Sam. However, them spending time together on Sam’s family’s ranch allowed for their relationship to develop. While I wasn’t a fan of how things played out with the “villain” of the story, it was nice to see Amanda learn to accept help from the people in her life. Her relationship with Sam was lovely and I especially liked him as a character. Overall, a solid 4 star read.
