Not a fan of cliffhangers! Nothing was really resolved and Emily started out great, but ended up an emotional wreck that needs therapy.
I was provided with an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The story captured my attention within the first few pages. It dragged a bit in the midlle and there were some scenes/ dialogue that seemed repetitive. But overall a interesting story.
Loved this book! I love the story of Emily and jack! It’s easy to swoon over jack the rockstar with a heart of gold ! Emily fights him at every turn. Heartbroken from her ex fiancé who she found cheating, she meets jack. Jacks instant attraction to Emily had me swooning from his first thoughts of her!
The story is easy to get sucked in ! I can’t wait to read book 2
The first book in a Trilogy, we are getting to know Jack and Emily. Emily does a spectacular job of throwing out the trash, after walking in on her fiancé and female friend! Then the best friend gets her to go out to see her favorite band. Jack, the lead singer, sees Emily from the stage and does the Rockstar thing and gets her backstage. For him insta-love, for her not so much, she is still working through her past. Throughout the book, we are getting glimpses of Jack’s stalker. The love and support of their friends, plus the chemistry of Jack and Emily made me keep going.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Emily Prescott a copywriter and novelist, is just three weeks away from her wedding. With everything paid for the countdown is on for the big day. Arriving home mid-afternoon, she is looking forward to a few hours of work on her latest book before Sully comes home. However, with noises coming from their bedroom when she arrives home, she finds him in bed with someone from his office. She throws him and the girl out.
Nicki, Emily's best friend decides that she can no longer mope about at home after a couple of weeks so persuades her to attend a concert. Tickets for Nicki's birthday courtesy of her ex-boyfriend (who also recently cheated - men!). Although Emily is reluctant to attend she goes to support her friend for her birthday.
Jack McBride is the lead singer and guitarist of the band that they are going to see. As soon as he steps on stage he spots Emily in the crowd and his breath is taken away. She is truly stunning. Emily notices Jack too, although recently heartbroken she is happy to look from afar. That is until Jack sends a note via one of the crew and invites her backstage. She doesn't want to go but Nicki persuades her to go.
Join the journey of the will they, won't they story of Jack and Emily. Lots of passion, miscommunications and past history to deal with along the way.
The first segment in a trilogy - originally one large 1200 page book now split over three books. Which is obvious when it comes to the end of the book as you are only just getting into their journey.
An okay read, bit long winded for me, Jack is definitely not the usual rock star bit too soft and Emily was infuriating, but the ending has got me reading the next in series.
I DNFed this at about 45% in, so keep in mind there's a chance it gets better. This is only my take on the first half or so of the book.
I always strive to find the good in every read, as there are positives to be found in every book, so I'm going to start there. I enjoy rock star romances, so the plotline in general was a delight for me. I loved that Emily and Jack met in such a unique and untraditional fashion. A truly delightful meet-cute. I also enjoyed some of the dialogue scenes where the characters weren't trying too hard to fit their stereotypes. When the author let go and allowed the characters to speak naturally, they were pretty wonderful. Relatable, down-to-earth, and witty.
Now, I'm not going to beat this book up, because I don't do that. At the end of the day, not everything is for everyone, and this just happens to be something that isn't for me as a reader. There were a lot of plot device and craft choices that jarred me and made it difficult to engage in the story or to relate with the characters. I was constantly being taken out of the narrative and struggled to get back into it.
So, again... perhaps this gets better, and perhaps it'll be just the exact thing for you, but it wasn't that for me. Sadl.y.
