A page turner that will have you on edge with the suspense. This book was amazing and I did enjoy a lot

The Shadowbox by Luanne Rice did not appeal to me as much as some previous read novels by Ms. Rice.

Shadowbox artist Claire is attacked and left for dead. Her wealthy and powerful husband has many members of the town under his control, Claire doesn’t know who can be trusted as she hides out and heals from her wounds. She is intent to prove her husband committed a horrible crime years ago.

For me, not an edge of the seat read nor a character study, though readable enough it just fell flat.

Luann Rice is a genius and this book is just more proof of that! A gripping novel with tons of surprises. Loved it!!

This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Very captivating with amazing character development. A family life that looks perfect from the outside is full of lies, deceit, cheating and so much more that will have you guessing what is really going on until the end. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Claire Beaudry Chase is married to a politician, Griffin, who like most politicians is corrupt and willing to do anything to be powerful and win an election (as governor in this case). Claire is attacked in her home and left for dead, and she suspects it was her husband who committed this crime in The Shadow Box, by bestselling author Luanne Rice. Claire is an artist, and creates shadow boxes which are scheduled to be shown in an art exhibit just after her attack. Because she knows a lot about her husband and that he committed a crime 25 years ago, she creates a shadow box that represents that crime. She must disappear in order to stay alive because her husband’s supporters are more than willing to kill her to cover up what he did so his political career isn’t ruined. Unfortunately some of Claire’s acquaintances are murdered and they don’t seem to be connected, but Claire investigates and puts herself in even more danger than she is already in.

Fans of Luanne Rice are already familiar with her excellent storytelling skills; this novel keeps readers on the edge of their seats, and there are enough interesting twists, that the book is impossible to put down. One of Rice’s strengths is creating characters and developing them so that they seem like real people. While the scenarios are not particularly plausible as far as Claire is concerned (although not completely farfetched), they ring true for the elite politicians who are against her.

The Shadow Box is an interesting thriller with a unique plot and plenty of suspense. The protagonist is likeable, and the dénouement is surprising. Recommended for thriller aficionados.

What do you do when you discover your husband is a criminal. Claire decides to let the world know through her art, creating a shadow box that illustrates her political ambitious husband Griffin committed 25 years ago. Surviving a vicious attack and having a good friend murdered, Claire must prove the two are connected and get the police to believe that Griffin is the bad guy. A page turner from the 1st chapter this is a fast moving thriller. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I am a huge Luann Rice fan and normally love all of her books. The Shadow Box was a little disjointed and long in parts. Claire Beaudry Chase is attacked and left for dead in her home, she escapes because she does not know whom she can trust. Her husband is running for governor and she fears he is behind the attack. Claire creates shadow boxes to sell and one of her most recent ones depicts a crime that her husband committed over twenty years ago. Claire feels her attack was to keep her silent. Then someone Claire knows is murdered, and the authorities begin to suspect that these situations are linked. Claire must decide how to take down her husband and the corrupt group of people who will do anything to protect Griffin’s interests and their own. I also felt the book's ending was very abrupt for such a convoluted story.

This is an excellent thriller that really pulls you in. You, as the reader, really have no idea what is going on and have more questions than answers throughout the book. A great engrossing read! The storytelling is amazing. I recommend this book especially if you always think you have things figured out— because you won’t.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was my first Luanne Rice book. I really enjoyed it. The plot grips you from the beginning and keeps you turning the pages.

Artist Claire Beaudry Chase and Griffin Chase seem like the perfect couple. He is a successful attorney, and she is a popular artist, doing shadowboxes as her medium. Behind closed doors, their marriage is anything but idyllic. Griffin, about to launch a campaign for governor of Connecticut, is physically and emotionally abusive and Claire is about to out him with one of her shadowboxes. Coming home the day of her art show, an assailant attacks her, believed to be her husband, and left for dead. She escapes and hides in the woods in a secret cabin she shared with her Father.

Griffin knows Claire has things she knows about him that could destroy his career. Fortunately, he has the backing of his secret society, The Last Monday Club, a group of his fellow blue bloods that will stop at nothing to see him elected. Claire knows Griffin has the state police in the palm of his hand. Who can she trust? As the bodies start to pile up, she realizes she must act quickly before she becomes the next victim.

This book is a page-turner from the very first page. Claire is a formidable character, and there is definitely a supernatural feel to parts of this story. I have not read Luanne Rice before and am definitely wanting to read more. The Shadow Box was exciting and kept you wrapped up in the story.

In “The Shadow Box” by Luanne Rice we meet artist Claire Chase who is attached and left for dead in her own garage. She suspects its her husband, who is a very connected member of the community and not a fan of her latest piece of art. As she struggles with this realization, and the fact that this is not his first violent crime he has committed she is not sure who to trust. Then one of her friends is also killed. As both crimes are being investigated Claire must decide if she is ready to take down her husband and his elite group of friends.

I received an ARC of this book through Net Galley and this is my honest review.

Claire Beaudry Chase is attacked at her home. From the opening description she is pretty sure her attacker is her husband, but he is dressed in black, taunting her with a knife, choking her and attempting to hang her. Her emotions are all over the place and she fears she is about to die. She wakes up later and realizes that she must escape to somewhere safe. Claire has suspected that her husband Griffin Chase, running for Governor, may have committed murder many years ago and is trying to keep it a secret by killing her. But there is much more to the story and Claire has many pieces of the story but they don't all fit together yet. Meanwhile on the same day Claire is attacked and presumed murdered a friend is also dead from an explosion on a boat. These two occurrences might just be connected. This story will take many twists and turns until the truth is exposed in its entirety.

The characters were well written, although as is normal many aren't very likeable. The story took many twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.

Claire Chase finds herself in an unspeakable situation. She has been attacked in the garage of her home and she thinks the attacker thought she was dead. Awake and hurting she doesn't know who in her life she can trust and her first instinct is to run. She believes her husband to be.the attacker, she figured out something horrible that he did years ago and during her upcoming art exhibit was going to show people who he really is. Her husband is on a political path that would suffer from any misdeeds popping up. She soon learns that someone will do anything to keep past secrets from surfacing and knows she must figure out a way to stay safe. Can she figure out a way to make those who have hurt her and others pay or will she herself turn up a victim in the end? This was an exciting read filled with many twists and turns. I read this book in one sitting and loved every minute of it!

Claire Chase is almost murdered and she knows her assailant- her husband Griffin. She goes into hiding until she can prove he did it. A page turning thriller - different from Luanne Rice's other books.

The first chapter of this book is the best part. It really draws you in. After reading it, I just had to keep going. The storyline has lots of jumping back and forth between time periods, and I had to keep a written chart of the characters to remember who went together, but I did enjoy the story. The plot was good, I liked the characters, and the storyline included several twists and turns. This book is worth the read, but it is a bit hard to follow. It might make a good lifetime movie.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I have read almost everything by Luanne Rice and was really surprised by the premise of this book but I love her stuff. For me, at this time it was just too dark. I did put it down and hope that I feel like reading it again another time.

I am so sad to say that I really could just not connect with this book, and I really wanted to. The plot was inconsistent and all over the place. And, it just seemed to keep going and going. The plot was also quite unrealistic which made it very hard to connect with the characters.

Story was hard to follow and I lost interest half way through the book. The time lining got confusing. The author could have added some more relatable and friendly characters.

Thank you #NetGalley and #ThomasMercer for the opportunity to read and offer my opinion on this great book.

Ms. Rice is a favorite of mine with a range of talent that produces wonderful experiences. This was a fine example. The Shadow Box, aptly titled, was a clever device used throughout the story as a theme behind the plot, a hiding place and a tool to prompt a villainous reaction. It might seem complicated, but it’s really quite simply a tool to reveal some deeply hidden past crimes and greed driven future plots.

I enjoyed the strong female characters (Claire, Spencer, Jackie) carrying the story forward alongside Tom and Connor. Even the villains, who I loved to hate, were important to the storyline and pacing of the book. A great cast!

Another piece of exceptional work by LR.

Different from most I've read by this author in that it has little develops of character relationships in the way I prefer. Yes, it is an unusual crime and clues but seemed a bit slow.
