This book was just okay for me. The author is a good writer but nothing in the story really kept me engaged with it. There is not really much of a mystery. You know pretty much all of the villians in this story right up front and there are a lot of them.

Well this was a nail biting who dun it. The story line moved quickly and the twists were a plenty. The characters are written so descriptively you begin to really like or hate them. Very entertaining from start to finish.

Thank you netgalley for the great arc

Without a shadow of doubt #TheShadowBox was a thrilling page turner. That being said, I incorrectly surmised that everything was revealed in the first chapter. I didn’t realize that a high-speed adventure was underway to discover the truth behind society’s façade.

As the chapters or more aptly layers are revealed, readers will find themselves immersed in the plot twists. Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for the early read in exchange for an honest review. During most reviews, I add a short recap to entice readers to pick up the book. With this novel, less is more as from the first shot, it’s time to retreat from reality and enter Luanne Rice’s 'The Shadow Box.'

3.5 ⭐️‘S
When two different crimes are committed on the same day, investigators are looking for a link. One woman is dead and the other is missing. Griffin Chase is a wealthy attorney running for Governor, but will secrets of his past be exposed before he wins? His wife, Claire, knows those secrets, but after being attacked and left for dead she is missing. Did Griffin kill her to keep her quiet? Are the incidents connected? There were aspects and characters in this book I liked, but overall it just felt over the top. A secret men’s club, spoiled children and a wealthy group of friends that are willing to cover for each other, just made it a bit too soapy for me.

Luanne Rice’s second mystery keeps you gripped by the story of Claire Beaudry Chase, an artist attacked in her Connecticut home. She suspects her estranged husband or his supporters of the crime. He’s running for governor and it’s clear someone is out to muzzle or murder her. I dare you to put this one down until the thrilling end. One wild satisfying ride!

BEST Luanne Rice novel yet! Wow. I was not able to put it down, and read it from cover to cover in one sitting. A pitch perfect good versus evil story.

Holy cow this was a nail biter. It kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end with its twists and turns. This is first for me by this author and I am already trying to find more. If this book is any thing like others I can’t wait to get a hold of them. Thank you to publisher and NetGalley for ARC.

Artist Claire chase is attacked in her home. As the attack is occurring, she is sure that it is her husband Griffin who is running for governor.. Claire was planning on leaving him and linking him to a crime 25 years ago. She escapes to a cabin that is hidden in the woods to heal and figure out what she is going to do. After an acquaintance dies they start to link her death to Claire’s attack. Claire starts to figure out that Griffin and his group of corrupt supporters will do anything to stop anyone from spoiling his chances. Lots of twists and turns in the great read!

Claire owns a gallery and is preparing for an opening featuring her shadow boxes. She is married to Griffin Chase, state’s attorney for Easterly County, Connecticut, and a gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming election. His family has lived in the area for generations in the same large house. He tells Clairs that prosecuting criminals makes him smarter as he can see the mistakes they made that got them caught.

Claire is in her garage when she is attacked by a man wearing a mask, gloves, and overalls. She knows by his build that it’s her husband, Griffin. After trying to hang her, he leaves her for dead. However, the board he used, breaks and she regains consciousness. That’s when she flees.

There are a number of characters in the book including those that Griffin and Claire both knew years ago. One is a young girl they knew and the special shadow box Claire made to depict her. This is a big clue. As the search for Claire continues, we see their friends and the secrets they have, plus how the powerful people make things happen their way.

This is a very compelling story of how political power and old money combine and, in this case, not in a good way. I really enjoyed watching the cat and mouse game and found myself on the edge of my seat while doing so. Well done, Luanne Rice!

This is a very well written mystery novel. Lots of suspense with tons of twists and turns that will keep the reader guy guessing whodunit. I read this in two days because the story was very engrossing and nail biting. Highly recommend!

Excellent mystery that will leave you guessing about everything. Who is the murderer is the least of the questions. What other crimes have been committed? Who are the "good guys" vs. who are the "bad guys." How do two apparently unrelated events tie together? Those are just a few. There are also questions about the exclusive community in which the two main characters live, it's residents, the activities they conduct, etc? No hints should be given in any review, because this is a book best experienced "in read time". Attached is a link to a more complete review.
