This was such a cute read! I enjoyed this story and found the writing to not be so slow paced which is always a plus in my book! This also gave me a new viewpoint of Amish life and the different periods of that which was interesting to see. All in all the story was cute and Lewis really did good job on the setting and characters for this book. I will be keeping a lookout for any of her other works!
*I received this book from Bethany House and NetGalley for free but all opinions are my own.
I hadn't read a Beverly Lewis book in quite a while. So was happy to be able to read one again. This is a sweet and different sort of story. We have some "going back" in time events to make for a bit of an interesting storyline. It has several different things going on, the new tour guide job for Anna taking her away from home and family and her Beachy Amish community. Anna working in horse therapy for special needs children and the topic of Alzheimer's. So there is a lot of topics to read about and learn about as well. So lots of changes and new adventures for Anna.
It was an interesting book but probably not my favorite from this author. I did enjoy it and the more I read, the more I got into the book. The beginning was probably not as quickly engaging as the author's other books.
It was enjoyable, and heartwarming. I liked the mystery parts best and the similarities between past and present people in two generations of a family. Which is a nice theme as one learns and grows from the past. And you will read about the many differences in the different Amish groups. And of course the secrets held by the stone wall.
Another good Amish read!
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
#The Stone Wall # by Beverly Lewis is an Amish Christian fiction book. Beverly is a best selling author and has written many books. Some of her books have become movies. Stone Wall is set in Strasburg. , Pennsylvania.. Strasburg is an Amish town which has Old Amish roots. The Old Amish were more traditional and did not use electricity or drive cars. Anna the main character is kind and caring. She volunteers her time at a horse therapy place for special needs kids. She sees the value of the horse therapy and is so supportive of the kids she works with. The themes in the story are sacrificial love, faithfulness. The story is beautifully written. This story has good character qualities in it. Thank you to netgalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me books a Million, CBD.com. , my blog. I will post my review on facebook, Amazon, Goodreads, Bookbub, Barnes and Noble,
I've been a fan of Lewis's books for years, and this book is no exception.
I love the connection in the story to walls, literally and physically, and how they relate to our hopes and dreams. The characters are realistic, as are the struggles they face. Anna's desire to find her own place in the world, all the while sorting out her feelings, will likely connect with many readers. I like the addition of an Alzheimer's story line, as that's not often found in Amish-themed stories. I used to teach special education, so I also appreciated the incorporation of the equine therapy angle.
Lewis shines at pulling the reader into the setting and story, and she does so with this book, as well.
Beverly Lewis is in a class all by herself. Her latest book, "The Stone Wall" is further proof that no one else comes close, especially in the area of character development original plots. Anna is moving to Lancaster County (a place where her own grandmother spent part of her youth) to become a tour guide. She knows very little about the area, but Martin Nolt (a Mennonite) agrees to train her for her new job. Anna soon meets Gabe Allgyer (an Amish widower who works with special needs children). Each of these men is attractive in his own way, but the question is, which one will Anna choose? The complexities between the various groups that make up these communities are explained so clearly that the reader finds growing sympathy with Anna and agonizes with her over the decision that she must make.

Another great read by Beverly Lewis. She my disappoints. Our main character Anna Beachy moves to Lancaster County a become a tour guide. Anna's grandmother had also spent time with a Great Aunt when she was young. She is very close to Anna and heading this news causes her memories to resurface. She keeps talking about notes and a stone wall by a big tree. Anna has a young Mennonite man who is training g her for the job. She also meets Gabe a young Amish man who is running a horse retreat
who helps children with ale I'm needs. Will a card for both young men ? Will she find out the truth of her Grandmother 's past ? Will she did love of a broken heart ? Thank you to Bethany House Pub. and Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this book.
THE STONE WALL by BEVERLY LEWIS is a well written romance novel with an excellent story and interesting characters.
When Anna Beachy tells her Mammi Eliza that she is going to Strasburg, it awakens something in the old lady which has long been dormant. Anna has always been close to her Mammi and is determined to find the stone wall that seems to have played a part in the old lady's past and to find out more of her history. We will see how their stories run almost parallel to one another.
Anna, who is Beachy Amish, goes to stay with Old Order Amish relatives, Glen and Sadie Flaud. She is getting over a bad romantic relationship back home in Mifflinburg and also wants to spread her wings. I like to see how she and Sadie seem to somehow be fulfilling a role in each others lives, getting on really well together.
Anna enjoys her work as a Lancaster County tour guide and also her Saturdays at Peaceful Meadows Horse Retreat. She makes quite a few friends in Strasburg, getting to know two young men, one an Old Order Amishman, and the other a Mennonite whose beliefs are much the same as hers.
I will not tell you any more for fear of spoiling the read for you, excepting to say that I really enjoyed The Stone Wall and can highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian romance novels.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. the opinions in this review are completely my own.
This book was received as an ARC from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I am a fan of Beverly Lewis and how her books focus on the life lessons that we all seem to take for granted. The relationship and history between Anna, Martin, and Gabe as she returns to volunteer for the underprivileged children she is forced to choose between the life her parents want for her or the life she is meant to live. Love will always conquer all and this story is a perfect reflection of that. Our community will surely fall in love with this book.
We will consider adding this title to our Christian Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
The Stone Wall is a wonderful blend of past and present stories between a young woman and her beloved grandmother. I liked the parallel of their lives as Anna sets off for Strasburg and her grandmother, who was growing more withdrawn into Alzheimer's perks up and speaks briefly of her time there in her youth. Things seemed to fall into place for a once heartbroken Anna, and I cheered her on as she was open to try so many new and enjoyable things she never considered at home. Her yearning for a new start in a new place while discovering God's will unfolds in such a wonderful way as she deepens her faith. As with all of Beverly Lewis' books, the characters are people you wouldn't mind sitting down with for a good cup of coffee. The book is easy to read but will warm your heart as your learn more about Peaceful Meadows Horse Retreat and the youthful romance between Anna's grandmother and a handsome young Old Order Amish man.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy good Amish fiction but looking for something a little different this time: a romantic story that includes a young, progressive Beachy Amish woman, a Mennonite man and....an Old Order Amish man. A bit of a twist I say, to keep it interesting! Many thanks for an advanced reader copy of this book by Bethany House Fiction and Netgalley.com for an honest, but independent review.
Beverly Lewish has written a wonderful generational story entitled The Stone Wall. Through this story, you will visit the past which becomes important to the present.
Anna is a young Beachy Amish woman who lives in Mifflinburg, PA (near the Amish Big Valley) and takes a job in Lancaster County. She is well received by everyone and makes a handful of Mennonite, Old Order Amish, and Beachy Amish friends and a couple of very important gentlemen. Anna's ailing grandmother back at home, has planted a seed of mystery in Anna's mind. The mystery slowly begins to present clues through Anna's work and travels until it almost solves itself in front of her eyes.
The Stone Wall is beautifully written and researched. The setting descriptions were spot on! I actually felt I was driving around Lancaster County visiting my favorite places! The dual time story was woven perfectly throughout. A must read book!
Another great book by Beverly Lewis. I related to the Alzheimer’s storyline as my dad passed from complications of Alzheimer’s. The different types of the Amish religion was well presented too. Our library will buy this title and I will recommend it.
In life, walls both metaphorically and physically pop up creating insurmountable distances between our desires and dreams. We find ourselves struggling between what's expected clashing with our hopes for the future. Beverly Lewis challenges readers to overcome obstacles as "regrets can't change the past and worry can't alter the future."
In search of a new beginning, Anna Beachy leaves behind her family to become a tour guide in Lancaster County. Staying with Old World relatives, her beachy beliefs are cast aside as she embraces the Old-World customs. While sorting out her feelings, Anna uncovers a stone cold secret that could topple her family's way of life. Will Anna embrace the future or let her fears keep her from crossing the divide?
Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for an early edition in exchange for an honest review. Beverly Lewis is one of my favorite authors and the #StoneWall was a wonderful read. Anna's story resonates as she must decide between being true to herself or adhere to society's expectations.
I found this book to be a very enjoyable read, and it kept my attention from beginning to end. You will learn a lot about the Anabaptist faith and the different sects here as we follow a young woman, Anna, from her home a few hours away to the Lancaster area.
There is a parallel to this story, Anna's beloved Grandmother also spent time with a Great Aunt when she was a teenage, and fell in love with an Old Order Amish man, now that doesn't sound bad does it? Her parents are like most, and the want their children raised in their faith, and their is a difference between this different Sects. Anna belongs to the Beachy Amish.
Now our girl is recovering from a failed romance and is staying in the Lancaster area with her Old Order cousins, and living without electricity, but she is still using her car, and we watch her bloom.
You will be wondering if she will end up with the fellow who has shown her the ropes at her new job, or the widow with the little girl. Both seems wonderful, and although they both worship differently from her, they would make great matches. Watch or read and see whom she ends up with.
Enjoyed how the title of this book plays such a great part!
