Overall, I greatly enjoyed this book. It was fun to learn more about Alex Trebek, a man who was a nightly presence on my TV for as long as I can remember, up until his passing. I finished the book right after his death, which made it all the more poignant, especially listening to the last chapter which was written for his family.
He lived such an interesting life, and the highlights of the book for me were the sections he read himself. He admits early on in the book that he is not a writer, and this is evident. The book is not well written, but it was entertaining and interesting to learn more about someone who was ever-present and yet so enigmatic.
Most of the book was narrated by Ken Jennings, and unfortunately, I felt this negatively affected the quality of the audiobook. Jennings certainly makes sense as a narrator due to his relationship with both Trebek and Jeopardy! but regardless of these connections, the book would have benefited from a professional narrator. Jennings was difficult to listen to; he lacks a professional's cadence, energy, and tone which would have made the narration more engaging. But again, overall, the book was enjoyable and worth the read.
