Okay, I did not know this would be so dark and gory. Some of the stories I liked, they were twisty and creepy, but some were over the top with carnage and I didn't like them as much. In one story, a guy's head pops off, ew! They didn't link together, which I was kind of bummed about. I think I would have enjoyed this more if there was a common character or this built toward something, but the stories are all independent, with maybe two having a small connection.

I think my favorite was the pedophile who got what he deserved, it was a good revenge story. I also liked the creepy ones where a monster lurked just out of sight. The stories where an innocent person was murdered by a crazed killer were my least favorite.

I listened to this in one sitting. The stories are great and I love how they have different narrators, and each narrator fit each story very well.

Untold Mayhem is a fantastic collection of 24 horror stories and a cast of 6 narrators, making for a brilliant audiobook experience. Each new story will rotate to another narrator so it's really easy to keep track of, and the change in voice means you are compelled to pay attention as well. As for the stories themselves, there is a huge range and a lot to enjoy for horror fans. I will say that several of the stories get really graphic on different aspects (sexual, violent, disgusting etc) so this is not for the faint of heart. However, I found it relatively easy to skip over the aspects less appealing to me.

I am struggling to get a complete list of the titles of the stories so instead I will discuss the subject matter of some of my favourites without the titles. One I really enjoyed was about two businessmen who were having a disagreement and so paid a mediation company who promises to help them resolve it, no matter what. That was dark and built up well. The second story about a man introducing his date to his art collection was also really great, and 'Taking Out the Trash' was so dark but very well written.

Overall, if you're looking for a short and decidedly not sweet horror anthology collection, Untold Mayhem is absolutely one to check out. I strongly recommend checking out the audiobook version as well as it gave a great experience of the book and I really enjoyed listening to the stories around other tasks. Each story is pretty short so it was easy to listen the way I wanted and not forget important details the way I might with a longer book. Tullius's writing is very strong and I am looking forward to checking out some of his other anthologies.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

I didn’t love or hate most of these stories. I find it difficult to rate anthologies because they’re not all written by the same author and very rarely is every story the best. Overall, this was a short collection of horror style stories that may appeal to some. As a lover of horror, I was frequently bored and found many of the stories to lack depth to hold most readers interest. It felt like reading a collection of stories written by students in a creative writing class attempting horror. Most stories relied on the shock & gore factor. Unfortunately I didn’t find these stories compelling enough to recommend.

I liked the concept of this book, but I had to stop reading it almost halfway through because of its blantant and repeated ableism and use of slurs. The ableism and slurs are unnecessary to the book, and it's a shame this author and publisher chose to include them, because it would have been an enjoyable read otherwise.

**I received an ARC audiobook from NetGalley for an honest review**

This anthology reminded me of a more adult version of the Scary Stories I would read when I was a child. "News First" definitely sticks out as bloodier and more violent than strictly necessary, but it's a story that strongly resonates with the society we currently live in.

A couple of the stories were things I had heard before, such as "The Hole" and "The Mirror", but done in a slightly different manner than I'd previously heard. "Pillow Talk" is quite reminiscent of something I would imagine from one of the Hannibal Lecter movies or TV series.

Overall, while I could see some of the endings coming well in advance, I definitely enjoyed the trip to get there.

I received an advance reader copy of this book on audio to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Untold Mayhem is a book of short stories by Mark Tullis. I read the audio version which was narrated by afew different narrators.

This book ranges from chilling tales, murder, crime, horror, madness and sinister tales.

Some of these tales I loved and some I wasn't keen on but overall this book is definitely worth a read if your a horror or dark fiction fan.

Soooooooo.....yeah. This is my first audiobook. I wasn't sure how well this was going work out because I prefer a physical book in my hand. I was pleasantly surprised.

The narrators do an amazing job. The stories unfold beautifully. I found myself in total enjoyment. The stories are written well. As with any short story collection, there were some stories that were alright, and then those that made you sit up and take notice. Or I should say scared the dickens out of you. I will say that this book is very much worth your time, for the narration, as well as the writing. I cannot wait to read my next Mark Tullius book.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and Mark Tullius for a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I’m settling into the fact that Fall is upon us, cooler weather is coming, and who doesn’t like the spook factor included with Halloween? This audiobook/book is a collection of 24 short stories with a variety of narrators, six in all! They all delivered great voices to the stories and enhanced the creepy-vibe. In my opinion the writing style had influences of Stephen King and other well known authors of the genre.

In this collection you will find crime, suspense, and horror stories interwoven through some rude, crude, and gritty scenes. This is not for the faint of heart, there is some extreme violence that may leave you feeling quite queasy. At any rate, definitely do not play these stories without headphones, your neighbors will question your sanity & debate moving away from you.

Special thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This surprised me! I hadn't expected to like as many stories or find so may of them unique and interesting. Sure, a few were gross - like the rapist and a few gross medical ones - but for the most part I found the each unique and I looked forward to each story starting, so I could see what the new plot would bring.

I really enjoyed the audio because there were a few narrators and they all brought an original sound to the story too, so it really felt like each story was on it's own and didn't blend with others or feel like one long chapter. It was just really a great set of horror stories!

An e-ARC was provided to me by the author and publishing via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

Wow.

I didn't know what to expect when I downloaded this audiobook from Net Galley, but probably not what I got. These stories are dark, immersive, captivating, and engaging. Mark Tullius' storytelling is amazing - many of the stories ended in ways I never would have guessed.

Each story explores a different type of darkness; some human and some not. As I progressed through the stories on the drive to and from my day job (our office is HUGE and there are only 4 staff so we are all appropriately distanced), there didn't seem to be any ugly or ragged action that Tullius wouldn't explore in his writing. A few times I was shocked at the turns a story would take, and a little surprised at how I leaned in rather than recoil. I enjoyed the look into a different type of fiction than I normally pick up. As one that always falls for the "jump scare", I don't watch horror movies or walk through Haunted Houses. Anything where I can see, be seen, or be touched, is strictly off-limits - I like to have space between me and what I'm experiencing as entertainment. This is where horror fiction seems to be different. Since I can choose what to imagine, or not, I can control the level of fear I may experience. This book has opened up a whole new genre for me!

Untold Mayhem is a collection of short stories the blend well together. As an anthology it moves seamlessly between stories - even the ones that end in cliff hangers! I would suggest it for anyone with a sense of adventure and a liking for all things creepy. Don't try this one if you are wigged out by detailed descriptions of violent or paranormal events.

First of all, I am not usually a fan of short stories. I avoid reading them because they are corny or ridiculously predictable. However, I had just finished a novel late in the day and wanted to listen to something shorter than a full novel. I found this book available on NetGalley and thought I would give it a go.

I was pleasantly surprised that these stories read like creepy old campfire stories. Some were told in first person (which added a level of creepiness) and others in third person. I listened to the audiobook version and was pleased to hear a different voice for several stories before the voice(s) repeated; feeling fresh again. Although a couple stories were predictable, they were still fun to listen to. “News First”, story #6, is the only story that I would have omitted. As a retired first responder, the crimes that break us and cause us the most trauma are crimes against children. The fact that this story involved crimes against many children, it is very triggering.

That one story aside, I truly enjoyed the uniqueness of most of the stories and how many involved karma. There were times I laughed or cringed at the ending. I found that the book was also available on KU. I downloaded the kindle copy so I could continue to read when unable to listen. The description of the book was completely accurate, "A tantalizing blend of horror, suspense, and crime stories; each unique but all dark, disturbing, and violent." It takes talent to tell so much in so little time, Tullius achieves that wonderfully.

Thank you NetGalley and Vincere Press for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book was such fun! These short stories were spooky, violent, but also very campy - like Tales from the Crypt - always a lesson to learn for the viewer/listener that is unfortunately too little too late for the characters in the story! The audio was great with a full cast of character who acted out their parts in full creep factor mode!! I highly recommend for those who enjoy campy horror and tales with messages in their twists!!

According to the blurb these are ‘24 tales of Madmen, Monsters, and Misery.’ Some stories lean towards the supernatural (In The Cards, The Hole), some have more of a psychological thriller element to them (The Mirror, Counting on It) and others simply gory (Taking out the Trash, Numbered Days). It’s hard to give a synopsis without telling the story because with 24 stories in 170 pages or a shade under 6 hours for the audiobook, these short stories certainly are short! And I think that might be part of why this book didn’t do it for me.

Yes, it is notoriously difficult to write a good short story and every writer in the thriller/horror genre wants to be compared to the master, Stephen King, who not only writes epic novels but convincing short stories (just look how many have been made into films). But these are not Stephen King stories; these are just too short to make much of an impact on the reader – we don’t get to know enough about the characters to care about the life-or-death situation they’re in (in this collection the outcome seems to be firmly fixed to death anyway). For that reason, the stories I enjoyed most were slightly longer ones (The Hole, No Service) because the extra details helped create a whole universe in 20 minutes, where the reader (or listener) could be more invested.

There were many narrators in this audiobook but three who stood out were Angelo Di Loreto, Landon Woodsen and Chris Schueler. These narrators brought more emotion to the reading and were very successful in giving different voices to the various characters in the stories they narrated. As far as narration goes, it was pretty straight forward – no need for special effects or music.

On the whole, I give this book a generous three stars: I was reasonably entertained for a while but I’m writing this review very soon after finishing the book because though not terrible, this was a collection of ultimately forgettable short stories and by tomorrow I’ll probably have forgotten them.

I should also mention that the cover is doing this book no favours! It looks cartoony and amateurish and doesn’t fit with the dark nature of the content.

Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook ARC of #UntoldMayhem.

Great narrators share these twisted tales. Each one is unique and interesting and the narrators do a great job of making each story their own. The author has a mind like no other offering these short psychological thrillers. I enjoyed these stories, some more perverse than the others. Not kid friendly so I appreciated my headphones throughout. Definitely keeping an eye out for more from Mark Tullius as his writing style is deeply creepy and shocking.

This was such a mixed bag for me. None of the stories really scared me, I felt like gore was put in just for the sake of it, and they were nearly all predictable. I did enjoy the writing so I could see myself picking up something from Tullius in the future, but this just didn't do it for me the way I was hoping. Also, random, but I'm not a fan of the cover. Reminds me of a cozy mystery, not a horror novel. I will say, I think audio is the way to go for this one! While I didn't love every single narrator, I did enjoy most and enjoyed the diversity.

Untold Mayhem is a collection of spooky stories of a mixed genre. I found some of the stories worked and some didn’t, but I have to say I’m not a huge fan of anthologies and the biggest reason is the way the stories end, I find they are usually finished quite abruptly and I found this happened in a few of the stories with in but I especially liked ‘ the Mirror ‘ story. The audiobook does have a good selection of narrators which helped to keep it interesting as I think if it was the same voice reading them all I probably would of zoned out whilst listening.

I personally really enjoyed this book. The short stories were topics right up my alley. I do feel the stories when from 0 to 70 and ended shortly after the riveting climax of the story. This would be perfect to listen to on a cold fall night tucked in bed.
