A delightfully educative, informative, and fun book; that tells all about the natural architects or builders in our world. These two, four, eight-legged, and winged creatures are a diverse and impressive bunch, each having amazingly inbuilt abilities that are puzzling and mesmerizing. I love how the author presented this book, making it a fun, entertaining, and educative delight.
Builders is a cute books for kids that love to learn about animals. The book showcases different animals that are all builders - beavers, moles, bees, meekats and a bunch more. The showcase of each animal includes detailed illustrations of the animals, which they might eat, their builds as well as details them. The text of the book is a combination of lists, bullet points, as well as short paragraphs of information about each animal and all of it is to the point and very informational.
There was a good number of animals selected and a large variety from mammals to insects and this non-fiction review of them was very good. This book would be a good addition for any one, young or old, that enjoys animals or has a child that is really into learning about animals.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's nonfiction book. I am not sure what age group it is targeting. I found it ok, but I thought the graphics on there they live could have been better. 3 stars
Very cute and informative book.My animal's carzy son will love this book. This book has givven all.the basic information from height, food to enemies of the animal .how they build ?and why they build that way ?
Amazing book .A must have for all the little animal lovers .
This was such a cute read. I loved the images that went with each animals story.
This is a fun one to read with your kids. Lots of fun facts to learn about and talk about.
My kids enjoyed this one.
Builders by Reina Ollivier and Karel Claes is a really cute book about animals and their habitats for any young animal enthusiast. It has a good variety of different kinds of animals it introduces with interesting facts about their habitats and more. The illustrations that go along with each animal are beautiful as well.
"Just like people, animals need a place to live. The animals in this book build their homes."
Builders is a great nonfiction beginner's guide to a variety of animals and the homes that they live in. Builders takes a look at 9 animals and how they make their own homes. It shows a glimpse into the lives of the beaver, cross spider, sociable weaver, termite, stork, meerkat, honeybee, Japanese puffer fish, and mole, giving each animal its own dedicated chapter.
My sons and I really enjoyed the information provided. It was educational without being complicated or boring. The illustrations provided were also wonderfully drawn. This is a great book for those who are still new to reading chapter books and can also be used as a great learning tool in the classroom.
I recieved a digital copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Builders, written by Reina Ollivier and Karel Claes and illustrated by Steffie Padmos, is currently scheduled for release on August 11 2020. Just like people, animals need a place to live. The nine animals in this book are very talented builders and make their own homes. Readers can learn about the amazing beaver, cross spider, sociable weaver, termite, stork, meerkat, honeybee, Japanese puffer fish, and mole.
Builders is a well written book that clearly explains the basic information these nine animals and their homes. It does not go into great depth of detail, but gives enough information to give readers a good understanding of the animals. I really enjoyed the illustrations. I thought they were done with great skill, and offered details and visual interest to the read. This book offers readers exactly what it promises and just might trigger greater interest and curiosity in readers, inspiring them to research and read further on their own.
I absolutely loved this book! Our family read and reread it multiple times. The only complain received from children - it is to short for such an interesting book! The text, large and detailed pictures, facts, engaging story telling - all this made the book a whole package.
I would like more books like this or better a longer book with more animals, birds and insects.
I really appreciate the authors’ efforts in creating this fantastic book.
Thanks to the authors, publisher and NetGalley for the provided advanced copy! All opinions are mine.
I will say first, that I think part of my problem with this book was some wonky formatting in the ARC - that I would expect would be fixed upon publication, but made it hard to read through as some sentences spliced with others and I had to keep trying to locate the next half of the sentence.
That said, I was very excited for this kind of book to be shared with my homeschooled children, especially my 2nd grader, as the intended audience says 5+.. It was sort of too young for her, though, but a little too long for my PreK kiddo to sit through. Some of the information was neat and we didn't already know it, and the art was good, but I didn't really like the way it was presented, swapping between prose paragraphs and short lists. For example: Name: Cross Spider Class: Arachnid Food: Flying Insects Enemies: Mainly Birds....I don't have a skeleton. Inside, everything is soft. To grow, I molt, kind of like a snake. When my skin falls off.... I preferred the more prose styled information, but didn't really like the way it came together.
I was looking more for something for me to read to/with her, and instead this felt more like a beginning reader type book, and maybe she would've liked it better for that, but wasn't what we were looking for.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Just like people animals need to build a shelter for themselves and their families. This book is about all the great builders in the animal world.
Part of a new series to make science more full and accessible to young minds. Builders introduces us to 9 animals that have distinct skills in building things and is aimed at tiny biologists aged 5 years and upwards.
It is full of interesting information and facts about each animal and it is set out in a fun way yet within a strict order that shows in science categorisation is important and a constant reference point.
As usual despite the many nature programmes TV has brought me in my adult life this kind of book never fails to teach me stuff. Whether it is bees that sting are female or that sociable birds live in their on high rise apartment blocks.
This is the kind of set of books hat I would encourage my grandchildren to reference. I believe there is always a place for books and although the animals in Builders appear random and unrelated the very bringing together of them in this kind of way provokes interest and prompts a scientific leaning.
Super animals in this series might not be able to fly faster than a speeding bullet or swing from skyscraper to high rise building with their web but maybe they could encourage enquiring minds to think and make more sense of of their natural world.
I loved this book and was easily going to award it five stars, until I reached the honeybees section. I have no idea why the author would choose to show a man made habitat instead of a natural beehive. Not to mention the troubling facts of how beekeeping negatively impacts the wild bee population and environment.
Besides that, I thought everything was great. I love the illustrations and the layout of the information is highly engaging, which makes it easier to absorb. I think it is adorable how all the animals are written in first person. I also love the speed meter, I thought that was a very fun and interesting addition.
The only other thing I would say is that, the illustrations of the homes could have been a lot more detailed.
Nice introduction to animal habitats for young kids! I think kids will enjoy reading about how a small variety of animals build their homes. It also contains information about the creatures and lovely illustrations.
I received this ebook in exchange for an honest and fair review. What a wonderful book to have in a classroom library. My kids are always interested in animals and this book delivers that and more. The animals are introduced and the author describes how they build, what they eat, and who their predators are. The illustrations were very well done. This book will definitely be added to my classroom’s library.
This book is lovely for younger children as an introduction to nest building creatures. It’s beautifully illustrated and easy to read.
Builders come in all shapes and sizes in the animal world. Some fly, some swim, some build above ground, and some below. This will be a wonderful introduction to different types of animal building. Inclusion of some lesser animals will bring a reader the chance to further explore their world. Illustrations are soft toned and detailed. Facts are nice bite size and answer questions that most children might ask. Great addition to all home libraries and those libraries serving elementary readers. .
I got this on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!
This is a really cute and informational book about animals that are known for building things! It gives key information in a clear way with the help of pictures, without it being too heavy or too complicated! I really appreciate the variety of different animals and insects used too!
One comment I have is that the map for where Honey-bees exists is a little off! I live on the West-coast of Norway and there are bees much higher up than the map indicates!
What an interesting look at 9 building animals. The book has beautiful illustrations that help teach you about the animal and the home it builds for itself. Even as an adult I found it very interesting and learned quite a bit. There is so much information packed into these pages. Like did you know storks can have nests that way up to 4400 pounds? Fascinating! A great science book to have on your shelf and one that you can return to and learn something new even after many readings.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Informative and a well structured storybook. Highlighting various animals and explaining through pictures and short summaries where they live. My only complaint is that the pictures could have been more realistic to capture young minds.
