The Child Who Never is an engaging and exciting psychological thriller. There are so many twists and turns, leaving the reader guessing the motives of the characters and suspecting everyone. Throughout the narrative, past tragedy is referred to and the author very skilfully leads us to the conclusion while dropping hints of the actual truth along the way. I thoroughly recommend it.
The author, Jane Renshaw is new to me and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to read this book thanks to Netgalley and the publisher Inkubator Books.
A very interesting read, kept me hooked from start to finish, loved all the twists and turns, came to a very satisfying conclusion
What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.
This was the first Jane Renshaw book I have read, but it certainly won’t be my last, it had everything you could want from a psychological thriller and had me hooked throughout.
Sarah is certain she has a child, but is told in no uncertain terms that this isn’t true and is suffering mental and psychological problems, so much so that her sister and the doctor have her put in a hospital for treatment.
Loved the storytelling in this book and the way the plot was revealed. Not really sure who was the sane one and who wasn’t at first but that certainly became clearer as the book progressed! Loved some of the intricate planning in this book and the twists and turns that kept coming along. You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family!
I definitely recommend this book and didn’t want to put it down, a great overall read. 4 1/2 stars. I will certainly be reading more books by this author. I would like to say thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing a copy of this book to me for an open and honest review.
i think the best part about this book was probably helping me figure out what i like in my thrillers and mysteries then anything that was actually in this book. like, it was gripping, but not enough where i was at the end of my seat, which kind of sucked. but, i mean, i would maybe reread this book when i'm in a better head space.
An intriguing, chilling tale that hooks you from the start.
The characters were interesting and possessed various layers which added so much to this story.
Full of twists and turns, and moments that have you holding your breath, this is an amazing thriller.
Evie’s love for her twin sister had caused her to do the unthinkable, but that was because she knew what Sarah was capable of she was left with no other choice after witnessing her angry outburst with Oliver. The plan was so well collaborated and executed between Evie, Lewis, and the Doctor, I had a hard time trying to figure out if Sarah was the sane one and Evie was crazy. This book had me going round in circles, it was a mind-boggling, twisting tale, and yes, sometimes frustrating book, that kept you guessing until the end.
This was a great read! Lots of twists, details and characters that took on a life of their own!
I was always guessing, but never totally sure which way things would go! Well done!
Thank you to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of #TheChildWhoNeverWas by #JaneRenshaw
This psychological thriller follows twins Sarah and Evie. Sarah wakes up one evening and finds her son, Oliver, missing. She's in hysterics and when she goes for help, she ends up in a mental hospital and is told that she doesn't have a son. Sarah doesn't know what to believe, but she's sure that she's being lied to...
There are twists and turns throughout this novel. Some you see coming, and some you don't. It's an edge of your seat novel from beginning to end. The suspense is intense and it never really lets up. If you enjoy psychological thrillers, you will love The Child Who Never Was! Jane Renshaw does an amazing job of pulling you into the novel so that you feel that you are there.

This is the first book I’ve read of Jane Renshaw’s and I have to say I’m blown away by this!!
Sarah is adamant that her child Oliver has been taken from her, but her doctor and twin sister Evie insist that she does not have a child and that it is Evie that has a son. Her protests are not listened to and she is admitted into a psychiatric hospital.
From the first page I knew I was going to be completely hooked with this story. I did not trust any of the characters and was doubtful that anyone was telling the truth. I sat down prepared to just read the first chapter and ended up reading most of the it before I knew it!!
I would definitely recommend this book. I sat on the edge of the sofa frantically turning the pages uncertain how this story would end. I love a book where you cannot second guess the ending.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.
I’ve read several of Jane Renshaw’s novels and this one ga e me exactly what I love to see in a psychological/domestic thriller - unreliable narrators, the relationship between twins, missing children, devious women, complicated women and downright disturbing women. I really wanted sure what I was reading and who to believe and kept switching my allegiance which made me all the more delighted. Multi dimensional characters, rather than the usual good vs evil twin, made this story interesting as well as tense and I thoroughly recommend it!
I kept reading to find out what happened and found the book well written and gripping in places, but I didn't enjoy the mental health aspect.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
From the very first page I was hooked. I just couldn't decide whether Sarah's young son had been taken or if she was as delusional as everyone maintained.. One minute she was so convincing but the next her odd behaviour seemed to show that her sister's story of her PTSD was true. One thing I was sure of however was that I was in for a sleepless night because there was no way I was putting this book down before the very last page.
Really struggled to get into this one. I found it slow going and a bit repetitive and I ended up skim reading it. Unfortunately not the book for me
Thank you to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the arc of this book.
This is a 5 star read for me as it was so thrilling and chilling it had me on the edge of my seat turning each page wanting more, as to why I completed this book within 24 hours of starting it, it was a great read, well written, i loved the characters as well, well done Jane Renshaw- Definitely recommend!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
will make your heart beat fast and your palms go sweaty. Burning with anticipation, fear, and the disquieting revelation that not all is what it seems, this thriller is impossible to put down—just read it with the lights on.
"Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they aren't after you!" Sarah's mental health is fragile, but her emotions are powerfully strong, and she is ready and willing to do whatever it takes to reclaim her son. For those who like psychological thrillers, this book is for you.
A creepy thriller, quite disturbing, but really engrossing. The tension between characters really ramps up, and it is good that the protagonist’s mental health problems never feel gratuitous. Recommended.
Sarah claims her child is missing but there is no evidence he ever existed, the only child seems to belong to her sister Eve. What follows is a story of mental health, lies and the ties that bind families.
This is a good thriller and although I had partially worked out some of the plot early on there were plenty of twists and turns to keep me entertained.
Identical Twins: inseparable, matched set, they share so much. But when a mental illness affects one, what happens to her double? What will one sister do to protect her sibling? Are twins allowed to live separate lives or is being a twin your principle role in life? These sisters who often traded identities as children raise it to a new level as adults.
I love a psychological thriller and this one pulled you in from the start. The bonus was the lovely descriptions of the country interspersed in all those twists and turns. Couldn’t put it down!
