I really surprised myself with really liking this book. It had a lot of the subjects my little heart craved, it was a sweet romance, it was about finding the place where you belong. It was about taking chances and following your dreams. The list can go on and on. But i Will recommend this book to you. Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest review
I really enjoyed my first book written by this author. Enjoy getting to know residents of Sanderson Bay and Eloise, the owner of the tea shop.
After a failed relationship Ellie returns to Sanderson Bay, the only place she ever felt home, and starts her wonderful tearoom. I love how Ellie thinks in tea blends when it comes to people and loved the community feel of the tearoom, with an after hours knitting club and pilates class.
We follow Ellie while she discovers new love, and living her best life. But is she really? Hidden motives and a regretful ex make Ellie taking stock of her life. And as she works her way through childhood resentments and a tearoom disaster she finds her best life after all.
Sanderson Bay sounds like a wonderful place to live with a tight community that love nosing into one another's businesses but also rally behind Ellie when she needs support. I enjoyed the different characters of this little coastal town: the bossy Sandra, her caring aunt and uncle Miranda and James, the ladies of the knitting club, and more. They all contributed to that community feel of the tearoom and the book.
I can not fault this book. And as a devoted tea drinker myself, I absolutely loved The Tearoom on the Bay. It's a wonderful Christmas season read, maybe under a blanket and with good cup of tea!
In this story we meet Elouise (or Ellie as she’s known) and her tea room in Sanderson Bay. Ellie escaped to Sanderson Bay from York to get away from some challenging times. She created a wonderful tearoom in the heart of a very close community. She comes face to face with adversity and she’s so strong.
I loved getting to know Ellie and everyone else in Sanderson Bay. I adore a story where community is important and Rachel certainly delivered on that. I can’t go into specifics but the narrative is beautifully written and I didn’t want it to end.
This story is about facing your fears and chasing your dreams ❤️ I would actually love to see a sequel to this story and see what Ellie faces next in her very busy life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful book. I really can’t wait to see what Rachel comes up with next! I give ‘The Tearoom on the Bay’ a glowing 5*/5* 😊
Thank you to Aria Fiction for an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley.
Thank you NetGalley for my ARC of The Tearoom on the Bay by Rachel Burton. The author did a great job of writing a pleasant, fast read with likable characters. The entire story revolved around the main character's ups and downs. You found yourself cheering for her. This is the perfect story to read during the pandemic for a little escape. I will be recommending this book and following the author.
I received an advanced copy of The Tearoom on the Bay, by Rachel Burton.I have read other book by Rachel Barton and loved them too. This book is about Ellie who returns to her hometown of Sanderson Bay. Ellie is living her best life, or is she? Secrets are always out there. What will happen with her Ellie and Ben?
As I was settling in to the end of the Summer feeling a bit of trepidation about what Autumn entails and inevitable change, this book was just the ticket to settle my nerves and comfort me in to the seasons ahead.
I love a café/tea room themed book with cakes, teas and wonderfully cosy settings and this ticks all of the boxes. The community of Sanderson Bay was a joy to get to know and I instantly could picture the seaside village in my head. I'm a sucker for the Yorkshire coast anyway and I've personally missed it so much this year with restrictions and whatnot meaning we've been unable to go. The Tea Room filled that void beautifully.
I'm now going to make sure I branch out in to some more exotic tea blends beyond chamomile or peppermint, some of the ones mentioned sounded fantastic!
All the struggles, journeys, battles and loves of the characters in this book made it so compelling and a treat to read.
Captivating and moving right from the very start.
This was my first book by this author and I simply loved it. I loved the attention to detail, the smell, texture, taste and feeling of the tea that Ellie created, the thought and love behind every scoop. I loved the thought that went into the tea cups and the tea pots, the little back stories to them and how they are relevant to the current customer. The descriptions of the cafe were beautiful and I really wished I was there. The whole community of Sanderson’s Bay were so welcoming and friendly and I loved how they all pulled together, whether they are a lifer, a weekender or a day tourist. The Bat really does get under your skin. They whole book flowed beautifully and I was half way through before I realised it.
Ben and Ellie are perfect for each other, kindred spirits. They each share pain from their pasts that has been holding them back, but with out realising it they help each other to over come it and move on, they make each other want to be a better person.
I was genuinely sorry to get to the end of this book, I hope there’s going to be another visit to Sanderson Bay.
I would love to go to Ellie's Tearoom on the Bay and sit and read. All day and even though I don't knit or do pilates I think I might stay for those evenings too.
Ellie runs an independent teashop in the place where she spent her childhood holidays but when mysterious Ben comes along who works for a big corporate coffee chain, does this spell trouble?!
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a review. I'll be honest I picked the book because of the cover as I love red gingham and gingerbread men and because it was set in Yorkshire (a place I spent childhood holidays) but I really enjoyed it. My first book by Rachel Burton, but I'd certainly look out for her again.
Eloise had been coming to the little seaside town since boarding school when she was thirteen, and she’s retreated to find herself after a breakup and leaving her PhD programme and work in York. She’d always dreamed of a tea shop, and by selling up everything in her old life, and a loan from the bank, she’s managed to buy the shop from aunt and uncle, the people who spent the most time with her as ‘family’ in the last half of her years on earth.
Now nearly a year on from taking over the tea shop, Eloise is finally starting to move on from her relationship’s end, and has found a new place, new dreams and a new best friend and community that has welcomed her and the offerings in her tea room.
But not all changes are always straightforward: a handsome stranger with a ‘to go’ mug from her least favorite coffee chain is intriguing: more than she’s mustered up for anyone else she’d met. Of course, we have the knitting / pilates/ community members who are ‘up to date’ on everything and more than willing to interfere with ‘good intentions’. All until the long-gone ex appears on the doorstep, Eloise learns to face her fears and her own history –and decide on her new direction.
The story is surprisingly deep, full of friendship, moments of drama and plenty of hearrt. There is a ton of history to unpack for Eloise, her new relationship with Ben and her old one with Marcus, not to mention her self-esteem, her own feelings of abandonment and her general timidity and adversity to risk-taking. Full of the scents and love for tea, a bit of good-natured ribbing from friends and a community coming together to support and cheer on one they’ve taken to heart – this is a lovely getaway story sure to leave you with a smile.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I was a bit intrigued by the cover and title of this book. I’ve enjoyed all her other books.
I loved the characters of Ellie and Ben’s. I was guessing whether they were heading or why Ben wanted to know about her, unsure of how it would end.
The book is set at Christmas, and I loved the setting.
I wanted to know whether it ended how I thought, or whether there would be a twist at the end, the characters were lovely.
Recommend it.
This is the story of Ellie who returns to her childhood holiday village to run her aunt and uncle's tearoom. Ellie is a character with depth and not without a few secrets. Ellie feels a deep attraction to Ben - but is Ben who he appears to be? This book explores some interesting relationships, not least that of Ellie and her best friend Sascha. One thing I particularly liked about this book is that none of the characters are perfect. They all have faults, foibles or secrets. The book avoids the predictable and you wonder how it will end. This is my first Rachel Burton book and it certainly won't be my last!
My first book by this author and it certainly won’t be my last. I enjoyed escaping to Sanderson Bay and meeting all the characters in the close knit community. The main Character Ellie was so likeable and her relationship with the mysterious character of Ben had me hooked from the start. So many twists and turns in the plot, I literally couldn’t put this book down. A much needed bit of escapism in the current climate. I highly recommend this book!
A lovely, cosy read about returning to your roots to discover that everything you thought you knew was not what it seemed.
I really enjoyed getting to know Ellie and the rest of the gang, especially the Monday night knitting group, and quickly became invested in their lives. Developed a real soft spot for the enigmatic Ben, too.
A tea shop book with a difference that's sure to lift your spirits.
Firstly, i didnt realise this was a christmas themed book as its a little too early for me however, i enjoyed it. This is the first book by this author and i am pleasantly surprised at how great it was.
We begin with Ellie who has been hurt all her life by her family and now her fiancee who upped and left her for the becahes in Thailand and Ellie kows no better but to run away and go to her sacred place 'sanderson bay' a tiny yorkshire village on the coast, i think this is Runswick Bay in a fictional sense.
Ellie buys her aunt and unclea cafe to make a tea shop, and what a great tea shop it is. She knows the residents inside out and knows which tea suits their personality. I wish i could fall into one of these shops and maybe join the pilates and knitting group that goes on. The sense of community is great and they all protect Ellie to the max. One eventful day a nice charming man arrives and Ellies like him but he works for the most awful coffee shop, Mobys. Then her ex who left for Thailand comes home with his tail between his legs looking to rekindle their life together.
Ellie is making preparations for the christmas eve party that she puts on and things take a bad turn when a catastrophic event happens and she doesnt know what to do. All the residents help her and everything works out in the small village in Yorkshire.
We have love, happiness, sadness, upset and we have great friends and families with some awful stories to tell. However, this book will make you smile and you will be reading aother by this author. great book.
Ellie leave her academic courses behind when her boyfriend Marcus ends their relationship. Heartbroken she heads for Her safety net, Sanderson Bay, where she has spent a lot of time with her aunt and uncle. Ellie decides to follow her dream and buys her aunt and uncles cafe where she serves up her own brand of tea.
This is a beautifully written book following Ellie through heartbreak, friendship, family and misunderstandings. The setting, the characters and the unravelling mysteries surrounding certain characters all add up to a book not to be missed
Ellie returns to Sanderson Bay after her relationship breaks down, leaving York University to take over her Aunt and Uncle's Tearoom as they were retiring. Whilst her parents lived in France she spent her Christmas and Easter holidays with her Aunt and Uncle and it was the only place that she really felt loved. Having made a success of the rooms things change with the arrival of a mysterious stranger Ben, with him she feels an instant attraction despite having sworn off men. Then her ex shows up and things begin to unravel....
I do love stories set in small communities such as this and whilst not a unique theme the story was touching and I enjoyed the interplay between the characters. With the past becoming clearer and new secrets being discovered there are highs and lies to keep the reader engrossed in the story. I hope that there are more stories set around the bay and I will definitely be reading more by this author.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I loved this book, liked all the characters and had a great storyline and whats more important made me feel good.
What a lovely story of how El escaping heartache and mistrust, comes back to the one place she feels safe. A chance to help her family retire as well as opening up her own little dream. .A journey for El of hope, dreams, friendships and love. Oh and not to forget matching the tea to a person very interesting
This story was really sweet from start to finish. I loved every character. I also just adore quaint English settings... and Christmas... and a good growth & love story. So this one was a definite winner all-around.
