An absolutely beautiful book, which tells the story of Eloise, who runs a lovely little cafe in a very scenic part of the world. Struggling with painful memories of the past, she is trying to rebuild her life when she meets Ben, who surely has a few secret heartaches of his own. Heartwarming and hard to put down!
This was a change of direction for Rachel Burton and as I’d enjoyed all of her other books, I was definitely intrigued by this new style cover. The Teashop on the Bay does feel different and whilst lighter in tone, maintains the same warm depth, loveable characters and wonderful descriptions that I’d expect.
I loved Ellie and Ben’s story. At times I was second-guessing and I wasn’t sure where it would end. Whilst this book is set at Christmas, I read it on a hot beach in Greece and still managed to be transported to the gorgeous, snowy Sanderson Bay. Overall, I loved the story, the characters and setting. I raced through this one and I couldn’t wait to see how it ended. It’s guaranteed to leave you feeling warm and content.

A great story. I loved the way Eloise mixed her teas and she faced up to her past withher x partner and her parents. It was a nice love story with lots of twists and it had a nice neat ending. A very enjoyable read.
This is a delightful romance set in a quaint English town full of quirky inhabitants. When life came crashing down on her there was nowhere else she could run but to her Aunt and Uncle who have become like parents to Eloise. She turns a major life crisis into a dream come true and opens her own Tea Apothecary/cafe. Life is good until the handsome and mysterious Ben walks into the Tea shop asking for a coffee. What follows is a wonderful story that shows Eloise what love, family and community really are all about. This was a quick read which made me smile and left me feeling quite happy and content. A great beach read or when you just want to escape to a happy place.
This was ok. The story felt rushed and had too many other stories mixed into the main plot. Ellie was a bit of a doormat which bothers me. Her friends were pushy and not very nice to her. The Ben/Marcus dynamic was a bit creepy.
I liked the setting and such. The ending was a real let down. A quick read though.
l9ved this book. Read it over a few days on holiday. Its a really lighthearted book perfect for a holiday. Nice plot and characters. Lovely story.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read The Tearoom on the Bay by Rachel Burton. Although one could say it was a predictable romance the writing style was so exceptional you felt like you were in a comfortable chair in the tearoom watching the story unfold. A woman rebuilding her life, a new romance, some drama, a recipe for great vegan brownies, and even a playlist. What more could you want?
As this is the first time, I have read this author, I saw the cover, I read the blurb, expected a lite weekend read. I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Her voice is fresh, her characters are complex and layered with baggage, just like real life. It is easy to get lost in the imagery as her words become pictures in my mind. I would love to visit Sanderson Bay during the holidays, the setting of the story.
Packing up and moving home was not an option for Ellie after her relationship falls apart, so she goes where she is comfortable. Putting the pieces of her life back together, in a subject she loves, tea. After a successful year with her café, life begins to unravel, with insecurities and doubt beginning to take over. With the help of family by choice, she finds her strength to start over, forgive, trust herself and others to begin again.
Thank you to NetGalley and Aria & Aries for the opportunity of an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
I truly enjoyed reading this book. It might have been slightly predictable but a great story none the less. I would love to live in a community as was described in this book. It was completely entertaining and I would highly recommend it.
A little predictable but a sweet read, likeable characters and a christmassy feel. . .
A little predictable but a sweet read none the less. Likeable characters and I found the 'tea' aspect quite interesting too.
Sometimes you can go home again, as Ellie learns when she returns to her hometown after a nasty break-up. One year on and she’s running a tea shop with great success and ready to risk her heart again with a new man. But when her ex shows up, Ellie begins to doubt herself again. Will she find the inner strength to trust herself? A sweet and moving story about new beginnings
I have absolutely loved this book, this has definitely been the escapist read that I have been looking for, an absolutely gorgeous read. I've loved Ellie, she's just one of those characters that you could imagine in your friendship group. It has been great to follow her journey through this book. I love the Sanderson Bay setting, a picture has been painted so clear that I have felt as though I've been able to escape. I absolutely love it when that happens in a book. This is my first read by this author, but it definitely won't be the last. I have absolutely loved this one. I've devoured the entire book in one sitting and enjoyed this more than I thought I would. A definite five star read.
The wonderful thing about any of Rachel Burton’s books is the elegance of her writing. There’s a unique quality to her voice that always makes me excited to lose myself in her stories, and ‘The Tearoom on the Bay’ is no exception. Although the cover, which is in itself delightful, may suggest a light story (and there’s nothing wrong with that), there are layers to this novel that go along with Ms Burton’s style.
As usual, she’s not been easy on her characters and I’m definitely not about to drop any spoilers but suffice to say, there’s baggage carried by each of them which, as it can do in life, comes back to risk the new lives they’re shaping around each other.
The other thing I love about her books is that they always feel very atmospheric and this seaside tearoom setting is no exception, and the little details of the specialities teas served here will have you inspired to pull out the teapot and try some.
All in, this is a lovely, emotional and satisfying read and well deserving of five stars.
