I REALLY loved the premise of this book.
Kyle comes home to find his wife missing. He calls 999 (British 911) to report her missing, but the investigation lags. He starts a campaign #FindHannah, and organizes searches for her throughout the woods.
Meanwhile, Hannah’s in a basement, numbed with drugs and reading paperbacks to pass the time. If she wasn’t numb, she’d be terrified.
Kerry is a rookie cop, investigating Hannah’s disappearance.
Kate and Guy are a couple living a mostly happy domestic life.
And Julia is a young woman with low self-esteem, out to help others, when she ends up joining the #FindHannah search.
This book kept me SO riveted. The characters were well-developed and interesting, and the writing was quick and smooth.
My only disappointment was the ending! I felt a little let down.
Overall, though, I’m happy to recommend this to my thriller-loving friends.
Thanks to NetGalley and darkstroke publishers for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The book is narrated by several characters which, as get deeper into the book, become a bit frustrating.
The first part of the book was suspenseful and a page turner. There are other parts that seem to have no relation to the book, which really slowed things down and kept me on the look out for things that might happen, but nothing ever materialized, so I'm not sure why these bits were mixed in?
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was quite good. I love when a book throws a good twist that has you surprised and saying “I didn’t see that coming “. I must admit the ending was a bit disappointing. It just sort of fizzled out.
3 Stars!
Warning: Unpopular opinion time! Allow me to start off by saying that I really did like this story. I loved the multiple person narrative and the time hopping and I found the story to be extremely well written.
Kyle reports his wife, Hannah missing. The story jumps back in time and is told in alternating perspectives. Hannah tells you how Kyle changed and how he starts being verbally abusive. The story comes back to the present and introduces you to Julia, who volunteered to help on a search for Hannah. Julia falls into Kyle's web and they begin seeing each other. I will stop here, as to not divulge too much.
While reading this, I couldn't help but think of Gone Girl and The Last Mrs. Parrish and I kept waiting for there to be a delightful twist.....something.......ANYTHING.....unfortunately, I was disappointed to find that there wasn't one.
A special thank you to NetGalley, Cameron Publicity & Marketing Ltd, and Rose McClelland for providing me with a reader copy.
Karma has a way of always catching up with you!
Kyle’s wife Hannah goes missing, she simply didn’t come home from work. The police tell him to call back in another 12 hours if she’s still not back. Hannah is nowhere to be found.
The police and public begin to look for her and start the #findhannah movement. But someone knows where she is and it’s a secret. Kyle befriends Julia a kind lady helping search for his wife.
The police search high and low but there are no traces of Hannah she’s simply gone. Kyle starts to becomes a person of interest however Kyle’s interest have moved from finding his wife Hannah’s to Julia! But Julia soon realises that she’s got more than she bargained for.
Great mystery page turner. I didn’t see a few things coming. I did love the ending! This book does have trigger warning for emotional and physical abuse.
“999, what’s your emergency?”
“It’s my wife. She’s gone missing…”
#FindHannah
Thank you Netgalley for sharing this book with me. I really liked the characters. I found the story super engaging and full of twists. I want to read everything by the author. #findHannah
What a delight! The truth is that I almost passed on requesting this book. Sure glad I gave it a try!
Hannah is Kyle's wife. At this point, she had been missing for 2 days. (Although Kyle initially tried to call the police at 12 hours).
The police case begins for missing Hannah; DI Simon Peters and DC Kerry Lawlor visit Kyle, first..
Hannah is in a basement somewhere. - but her pills and books somehow make it bearable. Also, she is quite happy to not have to "play at life". She has time to reminisce. Yet, now she additionally has time to think about how Kyle insists that she is depressed...
Julia, in therapy, needs to get out more. She joins the search party for Hannah It is then she meets Kyle...
The police now are procuring a search warrant to look deeply into Kyle's home. Just in case...
HIGHLY Recommend! A MUST Read!!!
Many Thanks to Cameron Publicity and NetGalley for a fast, great read.
I received in advance for you just copy in exchange for an honest review.
Wow – this book was a bit of a slow burn but the drama heats up and that last half is a crazy crash until it finally goes off the rails. These people are scary, and not in the horror movie sense of the word. This will definitely have you sleeping with one eye open.
Kyle's wife, Hannah, is missing and no one knows what has happened to her. Is she dead, kidnapped, alive? The police aren't sure. Of course the people closest to the victim is always a person of interest. In this case her husband. As the case is investigated further they find that there were visits to the hospital and to a woman's shelter by Hannah. Every time Kyle fou d her and convinced her that he had changed and she'd go back home with him. This time he can't locate her this the missing person's report. Even through the search Kyle is acting oddly. He has befriended Juliet and has even asked her to coffee and dinner. Not the normal behavior of a husband concerned about his missing wife. Juliet has seen some abnormal behavior from Kyle something' that raise some red flags. Or are there she isn't sure. Should she tell someone or not?
This book will keep you on your toes!
This is a well written thriller. I found it predictable at times, but still enjoyed it nonetheless. It was a quick and easy read for me and I'd recommend it to fans of the genre.
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley.
spoiler alert ** This was a quick easy read.
The multiple narrative worked well here, having a good range of characters in different situations.
Some of the narrative came across as too casual, hand so the story didn't always feel that tense, despite there being some fairly dark moments.
I'm afraid I didn't worry for Hannah's safety for one moment.
I'd definitely read McClelland again.
What a fantastic story. I highly recommend. Dark creepy characters and beautifully crafted. Fantastic xx
Under Your Skin is author Rose McClelland's debut into the psychological thriller genre having previously written three romantic fiction books...
I must say I really enjoyed this authors writing...
It is dark, unnerving and so completely disturbing in its telling....
I found I was reading this story almost with the hairs on the back of my neck standing...
You certainly do feel the tension coming off the pages..
I'm a huge fan of telling a story from different viewpoints so I loved that aspect throughout.
You always get such a great insight into a story when it is done this way.
We meet Kyle Greer and his wife Hannah is this one..
Hannah has disappeared and it all seems to be pointing in the direction of her husband...
An intense built up to finding out what has happened to Hannah....
The sideline story with her character Julie, I found to be believable but unbelievable all at the same time.
It goes to show you how disturbing a person can be.
Author Rose McClelland wrote about such a huge, heartbreaking topic in our society and she handled it with such care, knowledge and with a great sensitivity.
I thoroughly enjoyed her work and I do feel it is well worth your time 💕
