Thank you Capstone and NetGalley for the e-Arc.

What an adorable read. Great introduction to chapter books. Loved the vibrant illustrations, they matched Camila's vibrant and infectious personality. Definitely enjoyed the positive message. Thought the Spanish words throughout with the glossary were a great addition. Made it easy for my youngster to follow and learn some new vocabulary.

This book was downright adorable. I loved Camila's energy. Once she had her heart set on becoming a star, she didn't let any discouragement get her down. It's so important that kids have stories like this one, where Camila's Mexican identity isn't the point of the story, but just in the background. One thing I thought made this story special is how Camila decides that she can't just break someone else's record - she has to come up with what she's good at and then try to break that record. The story really emphasizes Camila's uniqueness, and I think it sends an important message: we can't all be good at the same things, and it's important to focus on your strengths. I definitely think this book (or the series) would fit well in an elementary classroom. It even includes little activities at the end!

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Camila the record breaking star is a great early reader story book for new readers which encourages resilience in children through the story as Camila doesn't give up to fulfill her dream of being a record breaking star throughout the book.
The text is well spaced and easy to read and I like the illustrations which accompanied the text.
This is a great book for encouraging reading in children and is short, sweet and simple.

As a librarian who focuses on assisting new readers in finding books they love and love to read, I found Camila the Record-Breaking Star by Alicia Salazar a perfect fit.

Camila dreams of being a star and when her teacher shows her class the cover of a magazine and a student who broke a record, Camila decides this is her ticket to stardom. At first, she tries to break records that kids already hold, and then she decides to make her own record. She writes and records a song and with her family's help just may reach her goal of being famous.

The illustrations are inviting, I appreciated the cartoon-like pictures and they compliment the text well. The print is large and well-spaced for newer readers. A picture at the beginning of the book shows the main characters of the story as well as a glossary of Spanish terms, non-Spanish speakers might not be familiar with. In addition, there are records at the end of the book that encourages kids to try out some record-breaking activities as well as a glossary of unfamiliar English words and reading comprehension questions.

I appreciated the confidence Camila presented and the support she received from her family. I would suggest this series to readers who enjoy the Katie Woo series.

Thank you Capstone for the opportunity to review this Netgalley Arc. I can't wait to share these with the students I work with at the library.

Camilla wants to be a star! A story with family support of Camilla and her desire to become and pursue her dreams of stardom! Another possible series is probably in the works.

I really loved the images used in this book, they were nice, bright and very vibrant and eye catching. They made the book stand out for me.

I thought that the story was great and it was really good to see the enthusiasm that Camila had to succeed and I liked the support she had too.

The book is easy to read and I liked the mix of languages too – a great way to introduce a few words to a child’s vocabulary.

It is 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!

This is a super early chapter book at Camila who wants to be a star and be in a magazine. She decides all she needs to do is set some sort of record. Her record of choice: the youngest person to hit 1000 listens on Song Cloud. She has moments of self doubt, but she succeeds in her goal and gets to be the star she always wanted. I can see girls getting into this story, and my nephew begging me not to have to read it. But as an adult, I want to know who she got those 1200 downloads. All in all, a nice read, but no real staying power.

Very cute book about a little girl who wants to break a record. Creative and fun and would be relatable to young readers! Her different attempts to break a record were humorous and would make readers laugh. Illustrations go nicely with the story. The inclusion of her family into the story and the Spanish words was well done. The singing and song was very nice! Look forward to more in this series!!

This book encourages young children have a goal in life and do their best in order to achieve those goals. The artwork and the lesson are excellent.

Camila the Record Breaking Star is a children’s book by an own voices author and illustrator. The story was so cute and the modern technology was expertly interlaced into the story. I really enjoyed reading it and I wish there were more books like this when I first started reading. The illustrations were beautiful and I just loved this story.

This is the perfect book for stocking classrooms, children’s rooms, and local libraries.

Fitting roughly halfway between the book with two hundred words total, and two hundred words a page, this was perfectly decent, but did seem to miss an opportunity. It'll go down well with the target audience, with its briskness, its ease in dropping into Spanish when deemed worthwhile, and certainly with its strong visual looks. But in being just a story of a girl obsessed with becoming a record holding famous person, it felt a little past the times. Nowhere was the "just try to be yourself, that's good enough" moral – no, here was someone hell intent on fame. Of course, the moral I suggest would have killed off the other books in this series, so you can have one or the other, but never both. Three and a half stars.

Camila the Record Breaking Star is an adorable story about a young girl who dreams to be a star and break a world record. With the help of her family (and her cat) she soon discovers she wants to set her very own record, and she does! Adorable illustrations and a cute story with diverse characters makes this a great addition to any children's library. I also enjoyed the Spanish glossary and the record breaking activities for kids to try.

I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
I think this is a very nice book, and I like that it includes Spanish words (with explanations), the English glossary at the end of the book, that the different parts have a clear theme, the reflection at the end and also that it has some suggestions for activities at the end! A great book to encourage children to want to try to beat records and that teaches that to become a star they don't necessarily have to beat the best of the best but to make up their own records based on what they are good at! Really creative mindset that I would want every child to encounter!

This was a very awesome book, worthy of way more than 5 stars. I'm not an Own Voices reviewer of this book, seeing as I'm neither Spanish nor Latinx, but this book was really really good. It featured great characters, vibrant and bold illustrators (10/10 stars to the illustrator cause she really brought the words to life), an interesting plot, and a wonderful dash of Spanish. I'll discuss my favorite parts of the book below.
--
The layout:
The layout of this book is very fresh and clean. with bold legible fonts. The Spanish words were highlighted in a pretty purple, so kids could pick them out. The illustrations were well integrated, and everything flowed well.
--
The Spanish:
I'm a basic Spanish speaker, and I've been learning for a while via Duolingo. I love that there's a Spanish glossary in this book, with pronunciation guides and translations.
--
The characters:
Camila, her siblings, and her parents are absolutely delightful. I can't wait to read more of them

Overall, this was a great great book!
