Tom and Jerry is a favorite cartoon of both children and adults throughout the world. As someone who grew up watching Tom and Jerry on the television, I was excited to read and review this on netgalley. This graphic novel was fun and easy to read. The illustrations were beautiful and the story was presented really well. We get to meet Tom and Jerry who have got something new to play with - a smartphone. It is fun to see them fighting over it and how as usual Jerry wins. I enjoyed it very much. My only regret was that there was only one story and that it was over so quickly.
This was such a trip down memory lane, and made more pleasurable that I get to share the magic with children who were my age when I enjoyed it first time around.
This proved such a hit with a six year old and a three year old who are still learning about the world of words.
I must say I enjoyed seeing their faces as we talked about each page.
The little pieces on panel talk proved to be a good talking point too.
I especially enjoyed Tom and Jerry through the ages, nothing changes decades on Tom wants to catch that little mouse Jerry and now we have mobiles thrown in the mix.
Thank you for the advanced copy.
Wanna have a Mad Time?
Come along! This book brings you the best pair for a good laugh- Tom and Jerry.
Tom😼
Tom is the cat who likes to think that he is a smart fellow. He likes to have an upper hand with the mouse that lives in the same house as his. But the mouse is too smart to let Tom have his ways. Always being outsmarted by the mouse, Tom comes up with imaginative and super-creative ways to defeat the mouse.
Jerry🐭
He is the mischievous mouse who loves to trouble Tom. He always has new tricks under his sleeves. His tricks makes him a winner in all his fights with Tom. Jerry makes us believe that your size is never an indicator of your strength. A smart mind and quick thinking can do the trick just fine.
What's Up with Tom & Jerry?
Tom and Jerry have something new accompanying them in this book- a mobile phone. It's 2020, who does not have a phone? And who is not obsessed with taking photos and making memes? Our Tom & Jerry is also taking selfies and making memes throughout the story. Find out who will take the best photos. And remember, there is only one phone. Do you think they will fight to get hold of that one phone? Yes? Most definitely yes! And what destructions and mayhem will be created in the house because of their mad fight? Take up the book to find out all about the new tricks the two have in their minds to win over the other.
BEST FOR KIDS
This book is a must pick for all the kids, especially the ones who are yet learning to read or who have yet not learnt to read full sentences.
Since this book is wordless, it allows the kids to enjoy the book without any difficulty or assistance.
If your child is grown-up a bit to read full sentences, it's obvious that he/she might like to read a bit in a book. For him/her there are questions right at the end of the story that will ask them about the story they just went through. The questions won't be boring since it will be assisted by pictures from the story.
DON'T GROW UP, ADULTS!
Though this book screams "kids", adults wanting to have a good trip to nostalgia land with loads of fun, will also love this book. It's short, wordless, full of colours and an effortless engagement that will make you thank yourself for taking a break from your logical world to indulge in a world where a cat and a mouse take selfies.😀
(Full review on my blog- https://bibliosbookwormblog.blogspot.com/2020/09/tom-jerry-wordless-graphic-novel.html )
As a person who grew up watching Tom and Jerry on the telly, I'm honored to be reviewing this little comic. Just as the animation, the comic is absolutely wordless which does not impact the delivery and the enjoyment of the read. It tells the story of how Tom got internet famous because of Jerry. It's full of all the things I love about Tom and Jerry - fo one, it's short and sweet and quite entertaining. I loved this little adventure that brought me so many memories of my childhood.
This book has a nostalgic feeling to me because of Tom and Jerry themselves. It's fun to read and has really excellent illustrations. I just hoped we got more, but overall, it's still okay.
As a fan of Tom & Jerry for many years, I instantly was drawn to this comic book by its bright colors and graphics.
I appreciated how the book allowed children to “meet” the main characters and included humor throughout the comic. Another plus was the “How to read a wordless graphic novel”, for children to help them become familiar with the way to read comics. I appreciated how the comics mirrored the cartoon by not including dialogue. Staying true to the original characters, the author & illustrator brought in the slapstick comedy Tom & Jerry are famous for as well as adding current trends like up to date technology. I enjoyed the story and appreciated the questions at the end of the comic for children to gain comprehension skills.
Perfect but too short!
It was like watching another episode of Tom and Jerry show reading this graphic novel! I feel like there's not much difference between these two!
I love how the original artstyle and the colours are used here. I love how the storyline is kept original as well.
It's Tom and Jerry typical story with Tom and Jerry fighting (of course!) trying to send their pictures for the probable candidates to win a meme competition online.
Love how these two fight like siblings but ending up together and one cannot live without the other.
Hahaha for once, Tom ..... . I won't say it. Guess!
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.
I never thought I'd see the day where Tom and Jerry entered a meme contest. If you're anything like me, you probably grew up on Tom and Jerry. It's not really all that surprising for people to latch onto nostalgic pieces of their childhood. Thus, the wordless graphic novel Tom and Jerry Grouchy Cat was a near-immediate request for me. And it's not all that surprising, either, that this book is sans words. In general, aside from that one odd movie (which I still loved), Tom and Jerry was a wordless cartoon.
What's in a Meme?
Now, when we say wordless we never really mean completely wordless. There are, in fact, a couple of words in this book just as there were in the Tom and Jerry cartoon. They just didn't come in forms of dialogue between the two main characters. After all, you can't really create a meme without some words.
This graphic novel pretty much follows the rules of just about every Tom and Jerry episode you can think of. This is one of those Tom has an idea, Jerry wants to be involved, Tom is mean to Jerry, Jerry is mean to Tom and then...well, you'll have to read it to find out the ending.
Oh, Nostalgia
The artwork here is very reminiscent of the characters you know. Frankly, I don't think I could tell you whether or not these artists had ever been involved in the cartoon. It sure looks like they may have been. They did an absolutely superb job of capturing these iconic characters. Chances are, though, that they weren't.
I loved how this story incorporated modern themes such as smartphones and meme-making. It's definitely one of those things where I think Tom and Jerry will live long past my childhood, perpetually getting updates in order to match the modern technological advancements and lifestyles. A cat and a mouse that hate each other can exist in pretty much any time period. I'm excited that the next generation will have the opportunity to grow up with these characters like I did.
I won't say that this graphic novel was anything exceptional and extraordinary. But it was fun. I enjoyed it and I'm sure that many kids today will as well.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. It brought me back to my childhood. Perfect for old fans or new
I really enjoyed this book and it read just like watching the traditional Tom and Jerry cartoons that I used to watch when I was younger!
The images are wonderful and they really do tell the story, it was great and I can see this one being a hit with all ages!
It is 5 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended!!
I loved Tom and Jerry growing up. I remember asking my parents to rent a VHS tape of Tom and Jerry so I could spend all weekend watching and re-watching my favorite cat and mouse duo.
Seeing this on Netgalley made me really happy - "Wow, they are still making those!?" But... I'm sad how short this was. It's a fun story, but really, really, really short.
It was like watching a fast, fun and funny episode of Tom and Jerry.
Interesting for kids, and hard not to love these two.
I received this as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Picture Window Books for giving me access.
This really took me back to my childhood. I remember watching Tom and Jerry cartoons all the time.
This is definitely an update to the Tom and Jerry most of us grew up with, but it was still hilarious as it is. It wasn't 100% wordless, for we still had to read action words but that was minimal.
If you are looking for a super quick trip down memory lane or you are wanting to introduce a classic to kids, this is definitely a great place to start.
Tom and Jerry continue on making everyone laugh well into the younger generations. I definitely enjoyed seeing a more modern setting with this short comic.
*thank you to Netgalley, Capstone and Christopher Harbo for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
3 stars.
Ohh a classic show such as the famous Tom and Jerry, will probably never ever get lost in the crowd. I understand that this is for very young readers with there being no words and therefore a stronger need is relied on with the images. But I kinda get the feeling the story being told might be lost on a few of our youngest. Something just doesn't seem right. Still, if you are a new or long time fan of these characters, then I'm sure you will enjoy this, regardless of your age.
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review.
I really had a ride down memory lane. I always grew up with Tom & Jerry and it was so fun to read about them again. Even though it was very short it was still lots of fun and I really enjoyed it.
The art style hasn't changed since I last read about them and I love that they are keeping it old but gold. It's simply so fun.
I think this is the perfect children's book for a child who wants to explore graphic novel. As the titles describes, it contains no words, very akin to the original cartoon. The graphic novel is very similar to the cartoon were it follows the adventures of Tom and Jerry, with Tom trying to outsmart Jerry but ultimately failing each time.
I thought the graphic novel was brilliant in the way it could express so much with only illustrations. It felt as if I had been transported back to my childhood watching Tom and Jerry on the TV, laughing at all their shenanigans. The story was easy to follow and I flew through it. The book was both short and sweet.
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Tom and Jerry on TV and loves goody comics. I would love the read other novels that are released.
I was provided an Advanced copy through Netgalley for exchange for my review. All of my opinions are honest.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very easy to follow and has great discussion questions at the back for young readers. I always enjoyed the Tom and Jerry series so found it quite enjoyable even though I am above the original intended audience age. Definitely recommend this book and will be purchasing it for my younger sibling.
For those of us who remember those times watching television and enjoying the adventures between these two opposite poles, which ended in comedy, childhood memories, cunning and so much that this series unraveled, now we have your comic which brings the same humor of the series , capturing the personalities of Tom and Jerry give us a moment of laughter while reading the comic, for new and old Tom and Jerry are a great reading option, as well as gifts.
This book was hilarious and a quick and easy read. I think it captures the personalities of Tom Cat and Jerry Mouse perfectly. I really enjoyed reading this graphic novel. It's a perfect read for readers of all ages!
