Tempting the Prince is my first book by Christi Barth, and it definitely won’t be my last. While it doesn’t work as well as a stand-alone as the typical romance, as I felt I was missing some context from the first book about some of the backstory, the character relationships as they pertain to this story are filled in well enough, and I do hope to go back at some point to get the fuller picture of what I missed.
The characters are incredibly charming. I liked the juxtaposition of Mallory and her adoptive sister, Kelsey, experiencing royal life for the first time, along with Mallory’s burgeoning romance with Kelsey’s “blood” brother, Prince Christian. Given the relationships they each share with Kelsey, I kind of wanted the weirdness of it all to be explored, instead of the focus being on how he needed a “proper” wife and she wasn’t seen as good enough. It’s touched on, but I feel like it was brushed aside a bit too quickly.
This is a lighthearted, humorous book, and I appreciate that, while it is a little predictable, it also doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you love modern (fictional) royal romance, then I think you’ll adore this book.
I received this ARC from the publisher and Netgalley for my honest review.
I didn’t realize this was the last book in a series. Even though it’s stated that it can be read as a stand-alone I would strongly advise reading the first two books. I was a bit thrown off by all the characters. That being said I enjoyed and liked all the characters. Mallory and Christian had great chemistry but the love between them was too fast in my opinion. I felt that the plot line of his decision to marry and be the next King dragged on for too long. There were also some inconsistencies in the story that I overlooked. Overall, it was an interesting love story. I’m aware that I’m in the minority with my review.
Christi Barth's Royals series continues with Mallory and Christian's story.
This is the only book of the series that I have read. It was very easy to pick up and not have read the previous stories.
Mallory- adoptive sister and best friend to newly returned Princess of Moncriano, Kelsey. Mallory has put her life on hold in the States in order to help Kelsey with her transition to royal life. Mallory has not had an easy time being in Moncriano. She is happy for her sister but isn’t sure she belongs in the palace and apart of the royal world.
Christian- Kelsey biological brother. Crowned Prince of Moncriano. He is covering his father’s duties as his father has had a hard time processing the return of Kelsey and the attempt on her life. Christian begrudgingly takes on these duties however he is not complete settled in his role as heir.
Tempting the Prince is a very typical Royal/Commoner theme to it. However there was a great issue that was keeping them apart. I love a good commoner and royalty story. This is a very well written and well done example of this trope. Christian and Mallory have a chemistry together. There wasn’t as much angst as I would have liked. I wish Mallory had fought back a little more with Christians plan to date for four weeks. She put a lot on the line with heart to take his tempting offer. Time and storyline movement at times felt rushed. But overall this was a really good read. It was a 4/5 read for me. If you like a royal/commoner trope you should give this one a try.
This was my first read by Christi Barth but by no means my last. I've put the previous books in this series on my TBR to read when I have a chance. It's been awhile since I've read a royal story and grabbed this one without realizing there were several before in the series but I don't feel like I was thrown in the middle of something with no concept of where I was. Mallory was trying to be there for her sister despite also being thrown into a situation for which she was not prepared for but she would do anything for Kelsey. Christian is the Crown Prince currently trying to help his father the King out. These two have chemistry you can virtually feel coming off the pages but there is absolutely no way they could ever be together. Christian must marry a royal and have an heir. Mallory is a commoner. Lots of fun with their bets and some emotional turmoil both within and without the royal family. Very enjoyable read.
Mallory and Christian were attracted towards each other when they met for the first time few months back. But she is a regular girl , and he a Prince, a future heir and so they don’t act on it. But one day when they meet in a pub as two regular people, having had a couple of extra drinks, they give in to their attraction. Now staying away is impossible and being together not an option.
I have seen the underlying attraction between Mallory and Christian from the first book and am glad to see them stop fighting it. It was a wonderful read with some sweet moments and some heart breaking ones. But all’s well that ends well. I have enjoyed this series and am sad to see it end. Look forward to reading more from the author.
A Royal Romance.
Christian is the Crown Prince and Mallory is an American commoner. Christian is supposed to marry a woman with nobility, but he has fallen head-over-heals with Mallory. Mallory is just at the palace temporarily ... to help her adopted (I think) sister (who was kidnapped as a baby) with becoming a princess. She knows there is no future for her and Christian, but she can't help falling for him anyway.
I just found myself skimming over some of the chapters. Yes, I know sometimes you have to say something more than once, but to go on and on about the same thing just made me lose interest. I didn't realize that this was part of a series and although I had no trouble following the story, it just felt that at times it would have been nice to know more of the back story. For example, I know this happened in a previous book ... Kelsey was kidnapped as a baby, but how did she end up with Mallory's parents?

Tempting the Prince is fun and captivating, it’s both light hearted and heartwarming. I only wish there was more of it.
♕ Plot: Mallory Wishner’s life was turned upside down the moment she and her sister Kelsey found out they weren’t actually sisters and that Kelsey was a princess of a small European country. They relocated to Moncriano two days after moving to New York, Mallory got shot at and was made a baroness.
Through all the hoopla though, Mallory couldn’t change two conflicting truths 1) Prince Christian, the heir to the crown, had given her the best sex of her life 2) even with the baroness title, she still couldn’t date the man who had to announce his bride to be in a few short months. Could their relationship be any more complicated?
♕ Heroine: Mallory was smart and witty. She was her sister’s rock, but she was also an outsider in the royal palace. I felt for her and everything that happened since finding out her sister’s true identity, cheered for her and was so very happy that she found her happiness.
♕ Hero: Putting country and duty before self had been drilled into Christian. He knew he had to marry a suitable woman, but his heart refused to give up love and the woman who saw the man and not the title or crown. The woman who made him happy and for that I completely fell in love with Christian.
♕ Sexiness & Feels: The attraction between Christian and Mallory was palpable from the start. The two flirted and had many touching moments together. I just loved how their romance developed.
♕ Facts: Tempting the Prince is book #3 of the Sexy Misadventures of Royals by Christi Barth. It is a contemporary royal romance, even though there are interconnecting characters from the two previous books, it’s not necessary to read them although I do recommend them as they are equally enchanting royal reads. Told from both points of view with a happy ending.
When you read a romance novel you make the basic assumption that the two main characters will fall happily in love. It is the journey of how they get there that makes the book a success or failure. This author does an excellent job of the journey. There is no chance of boredom as you join Christian and Mallory on this path. They show us a rollicking good time as they buck protocol. Mallory’s sharp wit keeps Christian on his toes, laughing and trying to keep up with her. It is all rounded out by the rest of the family and friends in the house of Villiani as the series wraps up with a resounding bang.
Though I hadn't read any of the previous books in the series, Tempting the Prince was quite easy to follow and get on track with. The writing flowed very easily from start to finish and the storyline was not overly complicated. That being said, I had trouble caring about any of the characters. I felt they lacked a lot of depth and definitely needed more time given to writing their backgrounds. It is because of this that I didn't enjoy this book as much as I was hoping. The characters seemed to spend so much time running around in circles and the romance itself wasn't developed well. There may have been more significant moments in the previous two books between the two characters, but I am going off of what information had at my disposal throughout the book. For the amount of things that happened within the book to only occur within a few months was also hard to grapple with. The romance between the two main characters really only spanned a few weeks. I did really like the how part of the plot was centered around the fathers abdication and the struggles alongside that. I would have loved if that had had more of a prominent focus from the start. That and the sisterly bond between Mallory and Kelsey.
‘Tempting the Prince’ has been a move away from the books that I have read of late, but I must admit to being very pleasantly surprised by this story. Mallory and Kelsey, who are sisters, but not by blood, are American girls from Michigan who find themselves moving from New York to the European country of Moncriano, where Kelsey, has been returned, having been kidnapped at birth. Mallory soon finds herself surviving an assassination attempt on her new family, but it is the attraction to the prince, Christian that throws Mallory into a spin. With the requirement to marry a royal, Christian can’t see a way to solve the situation, as he falls for Mallory. It soon becomes apparent that there may be too many obstacles in the way for this romance to succeed.
Whilst this book is part of a series, the first few chapters brought me up to speed with the storyline and into the relationship of Christian and Mallory. Both are enjoyable characters, who when together, are a great couple. The pressures of royalty are made instantly apparent in the storyline, with the press, public and family making their opinions clear. It reminded me of the problems faced by all modern royals as played out in the magazines. The secondary characters added to this story, making it all the more enjoyable. I am now going to go back and read the earlier books in the series.

Tempting the Prince is the third book in the Sexy Misadventures of Royals by Christi Barth. A sexy romance full of magical romance, a prince, and lots of drama. Everything you need to be swept away minus the glass slipper, of course. A well-written, fast-paced read that you will not want to put down. Tempting the Prince is part of a series, and you would understand more of what is going on if you read the series in order. A lovely read for those of us who love a dreamy fairytale.
So... this was part of a series. I did not know that when I requested the book. But, it's ok. You don't have to read the previous two books to understand what's happening, although I assume that doing so would provide a lot more background and character information. Still, I managed to get through this one without issue. I think the author did a great job of filling in the reader on all that happened in the previous books without it being overwhelming or detracting from this novel.
Another thing the author did well was write in a plain way that was easy to follow. The characters were likable enough, although sometimes their dialogue made me question some things (but more on that later). The plot is fairly straight forward. As I previously mentioned, not having read the previous books didn't present a problem.
That said, I did have some issues with the novel.
My issue with the romance was that although the two characters had decent chemistry, they dated for a literal month. Four weeks! That's it. And they barely interacted before that. I just can't believe that they were in love to the point of going against all tradition and royal custom, willing to anger and alienate all the people that depend on them, for the sake of their relationship.
Another issue I had was with the small inconsistencies that were revealed through dialogue for the sake of a laugh or a cute moment. The one that comes to mind is the use of the word 'ghosted' in the book. Christian uses that word twice at the beginning of the novel, once to claim that his doctor 'ghosted' him (chapter 1), and again to say his father 'ghosted' him (chapter three), as they were both avoiding him. Several chapters after that, he and Mallory have a conversation in which she uses the word 'ghosted', and suddenly Christian doesn't know what that strange American colloquialism means and Mallory has to explain it to him (chapter six).
You can't have it both way! Either he knows things or he doesn't! And it happens more than once!
In general, the book was a quick read. I didn't get too invested in the characters, but it wasn't bad. I had several issues with it but I suppose it was overall, ok. I'm not interested in reading anything else in this series.

*" I was provided with an E-ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review**
I had such a great time reading this book. First I am a sucker for books involving royalty, It's one of my favorite tropes to read. From what I understand this is a series of books however I didn't read it that way. I would recommend reading the first book before this. I say this because even though you can totally read this as a stand-alone with no problems, there were things that I assumed happened in the previous books that might be spoiled. ( I'm still going to read them though because I loved this book). Honestly, this book surpassed any expectations I had, I can't believe I've never heard of this author before. I highly recommend reading this book, it was cute, angsty, and easy read. I had the best time reading it and hope you all give it a read!
I love a royal romance. Lemme say again for the people in the back, I LOVE A ROYAL ROMANCE. So it’s no wonder that I’ve read Christi Barth’s Sexy Misadventures of Royals series.
The series is set in the country of Moncriano introduced in the first book of the series, The Princess Problem where the long lost princess is discovered to be Kelsey Wishner, an average girl from Michigan. The vibe is very Princess Diaries ala normal girl becomes a princess.
This book, the third installment, focuses on Crown Prince Christian and surprise (just kidding we all saw it coming) Mallory Wishner, Kelsey’s “sister”. Christian and Mallory are separated by the classic cannot-marry-a-commoner dilemma with a dash of a have-to-marry-by-30 conundrum.
Similar to the other books in the series, Tempting the Prince is almost good. The plot and the characters have everything going for them but the reading experiences falls short on the execution. The dialogue is cringe-y at times as if the characters are trying too hard to sound like they’re in their 20s. Overall this book is a quick read filled with palaces and balls, hits the points you want in a royal romance, and nicely ends the series.
I absolutely loved this book! It was everything I was hoping it would be. The characters were well written and wonderful. I want Mallory as my personal friend! The relationship between Mallory and Christian was believable to the point where I was immediately sucked in. I loved the descriptions of the country and palace. I found myself desperate to keep reading throughout the day. I am certain I will be rereading this book when I am craving a great page turner. I appreciate that the author wrote in a way to make this a stand alone. However, I absolutely must read the other two in the series! Fabulous read and highly recommend!
An enjoyable royalty romance. Both books in this series have been perfectly lovely; fans of the first will definitely want to read this one.
This was a super cute romance novel. I was worried it was going to be a very juvenile and fluffy book without much else going on but luckily I was wrong. This book tackled a lot of deeper issues and themes especially in terms of Christian coming to terms with him having to become king and Mallory dealing with her health troubles. This felt like reading a really sweet, modern Disney movie. The two characters had good chemistry and were great characters to read. I loved how they tackled the issues presented in the book. I am extremely glad they weren't overly sappy and immature as a lot of characters in these sorts of stories tend to be. I haven't read the other books but would certainly love to do so after reading this.
I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a light, feel-good read, especially YA readers.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC for my honest review in exchange.

Thank you so much to Entangled Amara and Netgalley for letting me read and review an early copy of Tempting the Prince! This is the third book and final book in the Sexy Misadventures of of Royals series, but it’s the first book in the series that I’ve read and even though there were some parts that probably would have been a little easier for me to really understand if I had read the other books first, Christi Barth did a great job making this book a great standalone read too!
Tempting the Prince 4/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads: What happens when you mix an average American woman with a decidedly not average future King?
I can tell you from experience—a whole lot of complications.
You see, four months ago, my all-American sister, Kelsey, found out that she’s not actually my sister—she’s a princess of a country we’d never heard of. She begged me to come along when she was whisked off to her new palace, so here I am. An outsider who doesn’t fit in anywhere.
Now that she’s settled, I should go back to my exciting new career in New York. I absolutely should not stay in a country where I got shot (long story), where I suck so badly at the national sport that I accidentally murdered the symbol of the monarchy in front of half the country, and—oh yeah—where I can’t stop ogling Kelsey’s actual brother.
The Crown Prince.
The man who has to marry a very important princess. (not me)
The man who must create the next heir to the throne. (without me)
The man I absolutely can never be with. (remember that long story?)
The man who just gave me the best sex of my life…
Did I mention that it’s complicated?
This book was super cute and a really fun, quick read! I loved Mallory and Christian as leads and reading this book made me want to read books one and two to see how Kelsey and Genny’s stories actually happened. This book gave me the Princess Diaries vibes, but if the Princess Diaries were for adults and was set in Genovia- which of course made me love it even more. The plot was super easy to follow and I was never bored. I really liked the characters- I liked Mallory more than I liked Christian, but that’s definitely because it’s a lot easier to relate to her than it is to relate to a crown prince haha. Overall, this was the perfect cute romance novel and y’all should definitely pick it (and the rest of the series) up!
I was really not ready for this series to end and I’ll be a bit honest, I’m sad and disappointed we didn’t get an epilogue with a glimpse into the future, but I still enjoyed Tempting the Prince. This book was more emotional that the previous books as it takes on the King’s mental health, Prince Christian realizing he was going to be king and forced to marry long before he was ready, and a big change in Mallory’s life after taking a bullet for the royal family. That’s not to say there weren’t light, fun, and happy moments because there were many of those, but overall this book was a bit heavier.
Prince Christian, good looking, dedicated to the people he serves, and devastated that the father he once knew has withdrawn into someone he doesn’t recognize and that’s if and when he sees him. He’s frustrated with his new life, taking over so many of his father’s duties, and while he is happy that his sister’s have good men in his life he misses his best friend Elias who was his protection detail until he started dating his youngest sister. He’s restless, he’s sad, and he’s lonely until one fateful night.
Mallory has been a bit out of sorts since returning from Michigan while recovering from the gunshot wound that did more damage than most people know. She feels good and she is happy to be back in the palace with the sister of her heart, Kelsey, but while she was gone Kelsey and her real sister Genny have become closer so she isn’t feeling as needed as she was before. Asking her security detail to take her out of the palace and someplace where she can blow off steam, she doesn’t expect to run into Christian who ditched his security detail to also blow off some steam.
There’s always been a little something between Christian and Mallory since the first book in this series, so I wasn’t surprised by this pairing and yes all of you “Royal experts” are going to have to close your eyes and hold your tongues because this is a new generation of Royals and they are proving they will find a way to be with the one they love. The heat between these two is easy to see, but what I really loved was how easily Mallory could calm Christian, make him see a different side of an issue, and act as a sounding board. She soothed him just by being near and while they fell in love quickly, the mutual respect and admiration for one another was evident.
I was taken aback by Kelsey’s attitude toward them dating, I loved that Mallory didn’t allow Christian’s grandmother, the grand duchess, intimidate her, that Duchess Mathilde, Christian’s aunt, made Mallory see her worth, and I was floored by Christian’s father King Julian’s advice and acceptance of his relationship. I loved much about this story which is why I needed more at the end; I felt like it was a bit unfinished. Who got married first? Who had the first baby? Did Christian saddle Elias and Theo with the title of prince? Did Moncriano vote to join the European Union? ACCCKKK, I need these answers!
Fun, sexy and while a bit more serious than the first two books in this series, I enjoyed Tempting the Prince; I just needed more for it to be an exceptional read.
Enjoyed this new installment of the Sexy Misadventures of Royals series. This book give us the romance of Prince Christian and Mallory (Kelsey's sister). There are definitely references to the previous books even though you can read this as a standalone as well. I really liked the humor in this book as Christian and Mallory fell head over heels for each other in spite of the royal obstacles in their way. Christian was a great hero as he tries to balance his family/country obligations with his feelings for Mallory. I love how committed he was too her once he realized that he wanted to have her by his side. And Mallory definitely won me over with her vulnerability and warmth for the Prince. And they had some hot scenes together as they became a couple! I could have done without all the "royal pressures" that were placed on a couple but I know that was a key part of the story line. Definitely pick this book up for a fun royal romance!
