Mila is excited about going to school but her father is not so excited. A book on contrasting emotions to share with your toddler has they anticipate their first day of school.
A special thank you to Clavis Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
A sweet picture book about Mila who is so excited to start her first day of school but her dad is taking too long all day. I love how this shows kids that their parents can be nervous about them starting school too. Very sweet.
Little Mila is very excited and impatient to go to school for the first time. She cannot wait to do the fun things they do at schools, like drawing, reading, playing, and best of all making new friends, now, let’s not forget that one.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Pretty cute book but the format made it almost impossible to read :0
mila is so excited for her very first day of school. However, her dad is being really slow and she is worried she will be late. Its a cute story for those just starting school. The story will really tug at the heartstrings of parents.
Mila Wants to Go to School is a sweetly illustrated simple and reassuring little book about the first day of school. Originally released in Dutch in 2008, this English translation due out 22nd Sept from Clavis is 32 pages and will be available in hardcover format.
Aimed at very young children, the story is about Mila, a young girl who is very excited about her first day of school. She and her daddy walk together to school and see and interact with their neighbors, some deer, and other temptations along the way, but Mila is determined to not be distracted.
The text is simple and accessible and the art is beautifully rendered and supports the story very well. I liked that Mila's life (she divides her time between mum and dad) and her ethnicity are relatable for most kids. Representation is important for everyone and her living arrangements and ethnicity are not remarked on in the text. It's also an inclusive book (there are characters of all ages included).
The translation work is seamless and it doesn't read as though it was written in another language first. The art is full of small details which will also provide fun for hunt-and-find play during reading time.
Well done, charming and sweet. This will be a good story to read with youngsters who are heading to school in uncertain times.
Four stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
A sweet and fun story for the little excited to get back to school I have a granddaughter named Mila who looks just like the little girl on the cover and she was thrilled!
Mila Wants to Go to School by Judith Koppens is a sweet story about a little girl excited for her first day of school. This is a great tool to get young readers excited about starting school and has fun illustrations to keep kids engaged.
Many thanks to Clavis Publishing and NetGalley for the advance copy.
This is so cute!
I wish all the kids are this excited to school.for the first time.
I have never come across a kid who's actually excited and eager to go to school for the first time. I have seen worse case scenarios and yes, it's heartbreaking the way kids cry their lungs out and cling to us as if we are leaving them. Seriously, it's always difficult to leave a kid at school on the first day.
That's why I feel this book is rather important to read alongwith kids before they actually start attending school for the first time. It will help them prepare and help them get an idea how it is going to be. I like the concept.
I like the illustration but I wish it was better than this. It's different, unique and basic but I feel like the colours used are a bit dull for a storybook.
Thank you NetGalley for the book.
Mila Goes to School introduces young readers to the experience of a young Black girl beginning preschool. She is a lively and smart girl who anticipates making new friends, learning new lessons, and engaging new activities at school.. It's apparent that Mila was groomed to become a student by her parents.
The author and illustrator did a good job in depicting the strong bond between Mila and her father. The father is nostalgic over caring for Mila at home, which is endearing. Mila's determination to get to school on time shows her growing maturity. This picture book is good for readers aged 2 - 4 due to the brevity of the narrative plot and imagery.
Short and simple story. It is an easy read. I just find this a bit weird because in reality, the situation will be the other way around. It has good illustrations but for me, it lacks impact. It may just be me. Maybe someone will appreciate it more.
"Milo Wants to Go to School" is a MUST READ for the first day of preschool! Teachers, parents, and most of all children will fall in love with adorable Milo and her caring father. The lesson taught in this cute little story, that school can be both important AND fun, is essential for young ones transitioning to a school setting for the first time. It will ease the first day of school jitters in a cheerful and enthusiastic manner. Kudos for creating a believable father as a lead role in Milo's life. Highly recommended!
Mila is the daughter of parents who do not live together and she is excited about her first day of school! This book says it's about Mila's emotions about her first day, which she is excited about, but it feels like it's more about the dad. The dad is reluctant for his daughter to start school because he wants her home with him. I didn't like the message this book portrayed about the parent not encouraging the kid to go out and enjoy school.
