I love this series! I have read every one in the series to date and always fall right in step with the characters. The mystery threw me for a loop and had no inkling as to the murderer until the very end. This book definitely left me at the edge of my seat, wanting more and more. The plot was well thought out
I enjoyed this book. It took a little while to get into it but when I did it just flowed. I like the characters and how they interact. It is an interesting mystery and I was surprised by who the killer was. #HaveYourselfaFudgyLittleChristmas #NetGalley
These cozy reads are some of my favorite. Enough mystery to pique your interest and keep the pages turning, but not the kind that keeps you up at night. Mackinac Island is my yearly getaway. I love that I recognize the places and I’m fully invested in the characters.
Thanks to the publisher through Netgalley for an advanced copy.
This series was new to me but I have binged read the entire series. This little "Fudgy" book was the perfect ending to the series so far. Because I hope there will be many more to come. This series combines two of my favorite things; Mackinac Island and fudge. But now for the story. Our little hotel owner Allie and her dog Mal once again stumble across a body. Her good friend and hotel employee Frances is the suspect in this death. We all know Frances couldn't hurt a fly, but she has a secret that connects her to the dead body. Allie along with the senior citizen "book club" are trying to tie all the pieces together and help Rex, handsome police officer, solve the crime and get Frances off the hook. Oh and Allie is doing all this while trying to make fudge to ship out for the holidays, rebuild the McMurphy Hotel, and decorate for Christmas, There's just not enough hours in the day for her.
The characters are so likable and makes you want to be friends with them. The recipes included in the story makes you want to go to the kitchen and try your hand at some fudge. People familiar with Mackinac will enjoy reliving their favorite spots and those that have never been will be booking their first trip when the ferries start running.
Excuse me while I go book my trip and make some fudge to sample while planning it. By the way I am team Rex all the way.
I very much enjoy these mysteries. I have been to Mackinac Island and sampled their fudge. If you have never been, it's a charming little place to visit and Nancy Coco's descriptions of the island are spot on.
Allie McMurphy has continued her unlucky streak of finding bodies. This time the victim is facedown in the snow with no apparent cause of death. Unfortunately, her friend and general manager, Frances is now the main suspect. Allie knows the accusations are false and sets out to find the real killer. This is set against the backdrop of a white Christmas on Mackinac Island.
Allie is a truly great protagonist. She is smart with just the right amount of sass with an independence streak and an optimistic outlook. She is a character I would like as a friend. The picturesque setting is what sets this cozy series apart from others, especially since it is a real place one can visit and see for themselves.
I figured out whodunit, which would usually change a five star rating for me but this one was so clever (no spoilers!) that I could not help but be impressed. Coco's use of some impressive red herrings kept me wondering until nearly the end of the story.
I love these books and I most definitely look forward to the next one!
Love reading this series. Nancy coco is a great writer. I had a hard time putting this book down to go to bed. Its Christmas time on mackinaw Island. When a murder happens Allie and mal her dog set out to find the killer before they kill again. Who did it. Read the book to find out.
It was nice catching up with Allie and Mal especially since I somehow missed the last book which is now in my TBR pile.
In this holiday themed book, a death by poison starts of Allie’s sleuthing. It’s a solid cozy with a good whodunit, wonderful characters and Mal, Allies dog who has lots of personality too. The setting of Mackinac Island is as lovely as always, I’ve never been there but I can picture it perfectly by the descriptions in this series.
Full review to come closer to publication date.
Allie McMurphy is getting ready for Christmas and a move back into her newly restored apartment at her hotel on Mackinac Island. While it’s off season, the locals are kicking off the festivities and Alice finds a young woman passed out in the snow, when the young woman does from poisoning, Allie realizes that murder doesn’t take holidays. As Allie and the ladies try to solve the case, they need to stay one step ahead of the killer or become the next victim.
I’m not sure why I have waited so long to try this series, but I am Glad the wait is over as there are quite a few books in this series I can binge on while catching up! I really like the setting and have always wanted to visit Mackinac Island and now can’t wait to visit again and again with this well developed series and solid whodunit.
Have Yourself a Fudgy Little Christmas is a really fun holiday-themed cozy mystery with recipes. The story is interesting and takes several twists and turns. While I had kind of figured out one part early on, I did not figure out the mystery until the end. I enjoyed the main group of characters and the dog sidekick. Also included are some great fudge recipes which I cannot wait to try out. I think this is a winner and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys holiday mysteries.
this was another good entry in the fudge series. There is a lot of action and it will keep your interest. I find it intriguing to read about Mackinac Island and how they do things there, particularly at Christmas time. I have read most of the other books in the series but when they mention the roof collapse, I realized that I must have missed one. I would have liked a bit more explanation about what happened with that. The story moves well up to a point and then it seems as though the author decided that now it would be resolved and throws out a suspect so abruptly that you can't help but realize that that is who is the culprit. the reason behind the murder was okay, just so awkwardly done that it lowered my estimation of this book.
Love that its set in Michigan which is where I love. This is the first book that I have read in this
series and it won't be the last. I enjoyed seeing how Allie interacts with the other characters to
solve the murder mystery while working on rebuilding her business. Enjoyable whodunit cozy mystery.
A good read. I have only read one other in this series.
Good characters, recipes between chapters, fun busy body characters 😀
Mysterious deaths, blizzard, cute dog and cat.
Need to check out other books in series
I haven't had the pleasure of reading Nancy CoCo's book before receiving a copy from NetGalley. This book was so good that now I want to check out this new to me author and read some of her other books. I think you will want to as well if she is new to you. I you have read her before you won't want to miss this one.
Allie is working on getting the McMurphy put back together so she can move back into the apt but for now she is staying at Frances old apt and the ladies book club keeps showing up helping her to solve the latest mystery in the town. Oh did I say murder in town, it seems that Kayla left a note on Allie's door to meet her in town at the Old Fort's steps. When they got to the Fort to meet her {Allie and her dog Mal} they found Kayla just about dead someone had poisoned her. The last word that she uttered was Frances name.
Check out the book I think you will enjoy it
I’m never disappointed when I read a book in this series.
Allie is such a fun character, she’s smart, energetic and a definite go getter.
When a death brings turmoil to the local residents, Allie has to step in, this death hits much to close to her heart.
I loved the aspect of the snow storms, the preparations for the holidays, and the close knit family that all these characters have become.
Treat yourself to a fabulous story and great friends by purchasing this great addition to the cozy mystery family.
This is a slightly darker entry in the series since it hits really close to Allie's McMurphy family.
I liked the rational decision making from several of the characters, Allie towards her relationships, Frances and Sally's toward their respective situations and Daniel's regard for his wife. None of that blowing things out of proportion to create tension and to move a story a long.
The story was well done though I figured out part of the answer before the characters. While there's no cliffhanger, one is kind of left dangling about the fate of a character. But, it's not the kind of fate that will have you growling at the book or biting your nails until the next one comes out. Who knows, you may not even think about it (unless/until you read this reviews).
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Another book in this winning series by Nancy Coco. A seasonal whodunnit, with a cast of characters we have all come to know and love; a perfect holiday treat!
