An interesting idea behind this story but it sadly failed to deliver
The writing is OK.

I have a hard time reviewing this book. I don’t think I’m the target audience, like I believed I was before I read it. I have traveled around South Africa, I have read a huge amount of South African books, and I’m a safari fan, which made a lot of the things in the book old news to me. I think the book works better for people interested in South Africa, but with little knowledge of it.

Another problem I have with the book is that at times some things were dragged out, and then others went by too quickly, so it lacked a balance. I think it needs more editing. For example, the protagonist was dwelling quite a lot in her own thoughts, feeling sorry for herself, but once it was over it was like “that was it”, and suddenly everything had changed, including herself, in just a matter of a snap. There are several other examples like this.

The story itself is interesting, but the execution did not really work in my opinion. I really wanted to like this book, because I think there is a market for books like this.
