There's equal parts Adventure Time and Asterix in this French YA graphic novel, and it is blended perfectly. Magic, absurdity, chaos, secrets, parents, responsibility, and animals all comingle to create a story and a set of characters that are charming, funny, and enjoyable to spend time with. I haven't read he first volume, but despite not having extensive exposition, I didn't feel too lost. After reading this, however, I do want to go back and read the first one (and will wait eagerly for the next one!).

Interesting storyline. I thought the sheep as a villain was a little silly, but it made sense in the end and it all worked out. The illustrations were very fun and I really liked the fantasy characters. I’ll have to go find the first one so that the beginning of this story would make more sense.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Aster has lots going on but I love that she is a strong female character that kids will enjoy reading about.

This series is very cute and fun! A very different story and set of characters from the Hilda series, but the closest I've found so far to the spririt of fun and adventure in those books, and similar thematically.

It took a bit of work to finally download the book and when I did, unfortunately the layout was difficult to read.

This graphic novel was very quirky, humorous and fantastical. Kids will enjoy Aster and her new adventure.

This is the second graphic novel following Aster and the Accidental Magic. It is perfect for late elementary school children and older, reluctant readers, fans of the Hilda series, or anyone who enjoys a good magical adventure. The art is colorful, cartoony, and whimsical; and it’s visually stimulating without being too overwhelming. So far, I have enjoyed reading this series, and can’t wait to see where Aster’s next adventure takes her!

I like Aster and her stories. Both of the English Aster books suffer from the same problem: they disjoint in the middle of the volumes. This is because they are each really 2 separate adventures and books that are collected together when translated. So, while I enjoyed each story individually, they were weaker together.

There is a lot of world-building and lore enrichment in the second story that really should have stood on its own. The sort of valley silliness in the first story just does not match in tone. They each do leave a little tease at the the end, which I won't spoil here. That seems to be the only unification between the two and it isn't much of one.

That doesn't mean it's a bad book. I liked the stories. They are certainly great books for fans of Hilda and similar stories with a somewhat more likeable, updated heroine --she even plays a new/contemporary console. This might appear to future readers as a way to date these comics, but for present ones they are relatable. For the readers, I think it's just better to do into a reading of this graphic collection with the knowledge that they are two separate stories to really fully enjoy them.

I received an ARC via NetGalley. I would like to thank the publisher and author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a cute and slightly silly middle grade graphic novel. I think young readers will enjoy this one; it has magic, adventure, and a nefarious goat (sheep). The Chestnut Knights were adorable and I liked her little stubborn fox friend. I feel like this would be good for fans of the Hilda series by Luke Pearson.

Aster's magical adventures are far from over! Now she and her family must face the SHEEP UPRAISING! I enjoyed this graphic novel so so much. Aster is plucky and fun and she genuinely loves her family, plus a bunch of weird magical things keep her life more than busy. If you like the Hilda series of comics, pick up Aster for a fun read-alike. I'm excited for more installments of Aster and her family.

Great follow up story. It won't stay checked in and I anticipate a long hold list for it. This was a fun series and I look forward to more of it in the future.

Another adorable adventure with Aster and all her magical friends. This is such a cute series and is one I will definitely promote to readers looking for a graphic novel series.

Aster and the Mixed Up Magic is Book 2 in a series, which I haven’t read book 1 but I think I picked up enough context clues and the story did enough background info to keep me from feeling overly lost as to what had happened previously.

Aster is a fun, resourceful girl who works with her talking dog, a fox that is the embodiment of fall, and a strange but fun cast of other magical and mystical characters to solve problems in her small town. Everything from putting down a sheep rebellion, to handling goatzilla, and Rapscallion the trickster breaking free and causing chaos Aster has down, so long as she has her friends and family on her side.
This was a fun series and I look forward to more of it in the future.

So I had no idea this book was a sequel when I picked it up. As a result I was really confused about who all the characters were and what they were doing as the book didn't bother to introduce them. People that have read the previous book will not have this problem, but the confusion may have colored my judgment of the book a bit. I liked evil sheep. They were pretty funny. And also there's a mercenary squirrel which I found pretty amusing. The art is cute. There's plenty of fun action.

Another super adorable outing for Aster, her talking dog Buzz and all their magical friends on the mountain. This time they have to contend with a hoard of marauding sheep, the return of Rapscallion the trickster, and mom's wrath when her scientific mind discovers her family has been lying to her about the existence of magic.

I'm guessing this is part of a series that I am unaware of. It's confusing and difficult to get into with strange plot elements (like a sheep revolution) that only dd to the confusion. Maybe this would have been more palatable had I been more familiar with the world?
