This book was SO good! It deals with opioid addiction, specifically in teenagers and I thought it was very respectfully written. This book sucked me in from the very beginning and was VERY hard to put down. I think this book gave a realistic view into addiction from everybody's point of view. I really really liked the short chapters. I had no idea how this book was going to end, which was a nice change, and it comes to a complete end. I really liked this book and would definitely recommend it.

This book delves into the mysterious disappearance of basketball star Jake, but goes much further in delivering a message important to YAs. The pacing is quick and easy to follow. There is enough suspense and questioning to keep interest high. Overall, a great read.

This read a lot like middle grade and it was not for me, for my students I feel like they could connect to the plot and the characters

This didn't up being a good fit for me - I have not been enjoying YA as much as I used to, so it feels unfair to criticize it for being YA

I'm sad I waited so long to read this! The story dives right into the thick of things, with Jake already missing and his friends being questioned by the police. The mystery isn't quite what it seems and I thought it was a good change from other missing person books I've read lately. The point of view changes constantly and I liked seeing people's relationships with Jake and what they thought about him being gone.

This is a quick read and so easy to binge. I wanted to know if Jake was really kidnapped, how his seemingly perfect life had gone off the rails, and whether his friends would find him. There were a couple surprises in this and the ending made me tear up. I'll definitely be on the lookout for other books from this author!

this was a really interesting read, the characters were great and I really enjoyed going on this journey. The author is able to weave a wonderful tale.

"Fadeaway" is a YA mystery/thriller centered around a basketball player named Jake who suddenly goes missing. I really liked the different formats and writing styles incorporated into this book, and that was one thing that made me really enjoy it. I thought the plot was interesting, and the story kept me captivated the whole time.

I am unable to read and review this title. It’s not on my device or the Netgalley app and its been archived so I’m unable to download it again.

This book shows us how easy it is for someone who is suffering from an injury to let their guard down and delve into the world of drug use. The story will keep you guessing to the end with real characters who are relatable. A great read for every teenager. I’m glad there are books like this for teens dealing with addiction. I plan to purchase this for my collection and use it as a go to for recommendations for kids, families and friends who need it.

One night, Jake Foster is leading his team to victory at the basketball championships. The next morning, he's gone, and nobody knows where he went. Told in alternating voices of his ex-girlfriend, his best friend, his little brother, and Jake himself, we get the story of before he went missing and after, the clues piling up of what might have happened to him.

Reader Notes: I really, really wanted to like this. I love the concept, and I tried to read it several times. Unfortunately, it just wasn't for me. I don't really care for sports, am not a fan of drug use, and generally it just didn't grab me. To be perfectly frank, I did not care what happened to any of the characters. If they never found Jake, I really wouldn't have cared.

Jake is the star basketball player, and the team just won the championship. As the crowd disperses, Jake disappears. Where did he go? Why wouldn't he want to celebrate the victory with his family and friends? Luke, his younger brother, hasn't seen him. Daphne hasn't seen him. The other basketball players haven't seen him. Is Jake in hiding? Is he in danger?

This story is told in episodes, before and after the game, by many characters who may or may not know what happened to Jake. As the police investigation moves forward, each conversation sheds a little more light on the story.

Ms. Vickers is a master of suspense! Every time I turned the page, I learned just a little bit more, but not enough to stop reading. I'm sure my high school students are going to be talking about this book for a while!

Recommended for ages 13 and up. Trigger warning: drug use; addiction

I admire how Vickers humanizes the addiction story here. Often addicts are portrayed as weak-willed, deserving of contempt. Here we have a "good kid",, responsible and promising, who falls into addiction by access and fear of not being enough. By presenting the bulk of the plot from the perspectives of friends and relatives, were' also exploring the different ways people are perceived. These are interesting elements but aren't fitted together well.

This was messy, but in a good way? As we got to know this huge group of characters, this story started to unfold right before your eyes in a really nice way. We are discovering everyone’s relationships through a missing person. Each point-of-view was really distinct, which was a huge plus because with the amount of characters there were, it could have been really easy to mess that up. Despite being a longer book, I flew through this.

It was pretty unbelievable and over dramatic.

What happens when the star basketball player, Jake Foster, goes missing right after the team wins the state title? As his friends and family reflect on the last year, secrets are kept, but also realization sets in that all wasn't right with Jake. Can his friends put the pieces together to find him? All the while, his little brother, Luke, may hold the missing piece to the larger puzzle. The internal conflict Jake endures mirrors many lives touched by painkillers and addiction. Suggested for ages 12+.

This was definitely more than I was expecting, in a very multilayered, emotional, and unexpected way! It was well written, thrilling, but realistic! The characters were done flawlessly, which helped me connect to the story, made it more captivating, and really need to finish! While it was full of fun thrills, chills, twisty turns, and shocks, it also had sone important elements that really hit me emotionally! I would definitely highly recommend this book to many, even those that are not really the thriller lovers, as I do think it would be loved by other genre lovers!

Fadeaway deserves ALL the hype and love. I was not expecting to end up reading such a powerful and emotional book that had me feeling so many emotions. Fadeaway is about a really popular boy Jake, he seems to be perfect but he ends up disappearing without a trace. This story is told from multiple perspectives and you kind of have to piece the puzzle together and figure out where Jake went and why he disappeared. I absolutely fell in love with how this was told because it made it so unique and had me flipping pages because I wanted to know what had really happened.

I went into this pretty blind and I think that is how people should go in, knowing as little as possible about it. I was shocked at the ending and I'm pretty sure my mouth dropped open! I don't think many people will guess how this turns out. It has been days since I finished this book and I am still thinking about the incredible message this book is talking about. I loved the characters and the mystery surrounding Jake and the town. It was one of the best books I have read and had such a thrilling concept. Once you start this book you will not stop reading until you flip the last page.

This book hooked me right away. There is such a good blend of flashbacks, current events, and interrogations from multiple characters. I enjoyed each point of view and loved Jake.

The mystery of what happened unfolds so perfectly. It is definitely a fast-paced, want to read in one sitting type of book!

The story is dark, especially at the start, but in a One Of Us Is Lying/Karen McManus books and This Is Where It Ends kind of way. I am all for it! I definitely recommend if you like these type of mystery/thrillers!

I really enjoyed this book up until the "big twist". There was so much build-up about the missing person's case after Jake, the star high school basketball player, goes missing after winning the state tournament. I liked the perspective switching as well as the time jumps from before to after for each of the characters. I also liked the different forms of writing. For example, Luke's chapters (Jakes younger brother) are all written in verse. It was an interesting mystery because we also get chapters from Jake's perspective, and it seems (at first) that he doesn't know where he is or why he was taken.

All of that, however, sorta went downhill once we actually find out what happened to him. Now, I get that this is a very important topic and current issue in our country (I don't really want to say for fear of spoiling the WHOLE plot), but there were some very insensitive decisions that certain characters made that are one of my biggest pet peeves. I really dislike when characters don't communicate. If the whole plot is centered around characters not talking to each other or withholding key information, it just annoys me to know end. Everything is based off of secrets and if people just talked the whole plot could be avoided.

Overall, this was a good but not great book.
