I really enjoyed Be Careful What You Wish For and read it over a couple of days. It follows the story of Madi who lives in London and Prue who lives in a sleepy village in Norfolk. They’re both wanting to escape their current lives for various reasons. Madi feel desperately lonely in London and has the awful sense that she is being watched. Prue meanwhile feels claustrophobic and needs to get away from village life, so why not swap homes for a month.

The story is mainly told from either Madi or Prue’s point of view but there’s also a third point of view that’s more sinister. I feel you really get to know both main characters well and the plot flows nicely. I enjoyed the whole book and found it hard to put down. Be Careful What You Wish For by this new to me author, published by Harper Collins UK, is a full length, stand-alone, slow burn.
This book goes from lets give it a try to this is unputdownable and I need to read just one more chapter, sneakely bit by bit.
Meet Prue Harris. She swapped flats with a stranger. All she wanted was to leave her old life behind.
Madi is a mature woman who accepts her proposition and she goes to small town life. She's lived a fullfilled life, made mistakes, fell in and out of love, still has a lot to give.
I loved this slow burn, exquisite story, intriguing storyline, characters you can't not fall in love with. A wonderful story, 4,5 stars.

I thought this would be more of a thriller but it's really a "cozy mystery" with a lot of characters. Prue and Madi swap houses for a month as each woman is trying to "hide" from her circumstances. They both become invested in the new venue and make friends easily. But we know there is a stalker who is taunting Madi's house for reasons unknown until the end so this is the heart of the mystery. I did enjoy the book but was hoping for more; I'm not even sure what. But if cozy mysteries are your thing then you will certainly like this!

This is a very entertaining read that probably falls between a 3 and 4 star rating. 

The book follows two women Prue and Madi who decide to do a home swop in order to get a break. Twenty four year old Prue lives in a small village and experiences a total change when she moves into Madi's home in London. Madi on the other hand is sixty two and is happy to move to quieter surroundings in Prue's little village home. Both the women have their own reasons for wanting to get away from their normal surroundings and the story is told on the whole from Prue and Madi's point of view. 

Overall a very enjoyable read that is worth a look at.

A very unusual story with a few twists and turns that were unexpected.
The premise is two women, who have never met in person, decide to switch houses for a month. What follows is their story of events that occur. There is mystery, intrigue and some thriller type moments.
The story is told from each woman’s view on their everyday adventures and personal growth.
I did go into this book thinking it would be more of a thriller. It is a well written mystery with a few thriller moments.

In this day and age of AirB&B and Homeaway, it is interesting to read a book about a house swap. Don't we all dream at some point of swapping our suburban house in a nameless town with a fancy apartment in London or another exciting city at some point in our lives? This is the story of Prue and Madi, both escaping recent trauma and agreeing to switch locations for a month. Prue, from a tiny town in Norfolk, is licking her wounds after an embarrassing public breakup, Madi, an actress, is recovering from Breast Cancer. The book alternates between both character's POVs from chapter to chapter. There is also an unknown stalker who appears as a POV in several chapters.

Vivien Brown did a great job introducing both characters and the people that surround them in the novel. I particularly loved the quirkiness she gave to each one, especially in Shelling. The author gave such life to this little town that it would make me want to live there.

Every once in a while, I read a book which has a story line added which doesn't give much to the actual book. This novel would be perfect without the added stalker. It doesn't add much to the story line and just the stories of Madi and Prue and their lives going on would be amazing. Both characters had such life in them. I felt myself rushing through the stalker parts because I didn't care about it as much as Prue and her garden or Madi and Tom.

This is more a cozy mystery than a thriller. I wasn't rushing to the end to find out who the stalker was. I was savoring the book and not wanting it to end despite the unknown.

This was an enjoyable read, a more gentle thriller than many in this genre. The central characters – 24 year old Prue, and 62 year old Madi arrange a month long house swap with Prue staying in Madi’s London flat and Madi in Prue’s cottage in a small Norfolk village. The first chapter is written by an anonymous character which draws you in to find out who they are and what has happened. The book goes on to tell how the lives of the Madi and Prue have come to the point where they both have a desire to escape their current situations, hence the house swap. We see the two quickly develop new friendships as they settle into their temporary new lifestyles and its interesting to see how the two, who were both unsure of their new situations, quickly adapt. Throughout the book there are intriguing chapters from the anonymous character which heighten the readers quest to discover exactly what happens. I felt the book was slightly slow to start yet found myself racing towards the end. Altogether it was an enjoyable read. I was given a free copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I felt very "meh" about this one...Definitely marketed incorrectly. I'm sure it would be great for many people, it just wasn't for me and not what I was looking for in a book.

While we know nothing about either lady at the start, as they begin to reveal bits of information about their lives to their new neighbours, we begin to form a picture of their two lives. Their lives and friendships become increasingly interwoven as the story progresses. We know from the beginning that something untoward will happen to one of them, but which one?

This isn’t a thriller, and while there’s an element of mystery, the attraction of the story is the character development of the two women. Good holiday read.

But this isn’t an updated Tara Road; while the house swappers do start to make a difference in their new communities, neither are afforded the opportunity to really escape. Plus, it’s clear that someone else wants one of the ladies to make a more permanent departure. It’s surprisingly edgy, I wasn’t expecting to be drawn into the story and gripped trying to figure out who was responsible for what.

Both Madi and Prue were likable characters, and the author did a good job of helping the reader to get to know all of the other characters they encountered, even though there were a lot of them and some didn't get many words attributed to them. While there were difficulties that both encountered, there wasn't a lot of real conflict int the book and the problems get tied up in a neat little bow by the end.

There really isn't much of the book dedicated to the person who has a beef with Madi- the reader finds out who that person is almost at the very end of the book. As I mentioned above, this didn't really feel like a mystery or thriller, but I do think it was an interesting storyline that added to the overall story. I had an inkling of who the villain was before they were named, though it was mainly from process of elimination.

All in all, this was a lightweight and feel-good read. I would not recommend to those who were looking for more of a thriller but would recommend for those who are looking for something like that. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Be Careful What You Wish For boasts a promising plot but delivers more of a cozy mystery than an edge of your seat thriller. Two women switch homes for a month with unsettling results.. The plot was enjoyable though the characters were a bit two dimentional. The twist at the end of the story was well executed and makes for an entertaining though not profound read. This book was only so so. Not much of a thriller, just a plodding women’s fiction novel with a very strange twist that takes up about 1% of the book Skip it.

A Hallmark happily ever after book with a psycho thrown in to keep the reader on their toes. Well written with intriguing characters I wanted to learn more about. Easy read with a surprise twist I didn’t expect..

This was an enjoyable novel that follows two women who switch homes for a month. The premise interested me, but it wasn't as fast paced as I would have liked unfortunately. It was less of a thriller and more of a drama which was not what I was expecting. However, it was an enjoyable read that I got through quickly.

I was disappointed with this book, I thought it was going to be an 'edge of seater' but it just turned out to be an ok mystery.

Although it was well written unfortunately it didn't appeal to me but thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins (OMC) for giving me the opportunity to read this book

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC, Prue and Madi are both good, likable characters. I read a lot of thrillers, but in this case, the 'mystery' felt unnecessary. I enjoyed seeing Madi and Prue evolve and grow. The story was good-it reminded me of reading Maeve Binchy books, seeing into people's lives. (I love Maeve Binchy, so this a a big compliment.) This is a well-written book and is a solid 4.5 stars. I would read other books by this author!

Both Prue and Madi needed time "away from it all". So... they do a house swap. Madi (62) lives in London and before had a stage career. Yet now she had been ill for the last few months - she just had to get away from it all. (And maybe someone named George?) Prue, 24, living in the country, had done something so bad that she had to get away. London sounded perfect!. Prue's problem was Joseph Bartow whom she could not get out of her mind during her time in London.

Behind the scenes a sinister person "visits" the London house at night. (Does this person know that Prue is there at the moment?). Also, the event that had happened to Prue was bad enough to destroy her relationship with Joe. What was it?

The puzzles meld together in an quite excellent thriller ! A great read!!!

A good read.
Former actress Madi needs to escape from her lonely London life. She’s started to forget things and has the strongest sense she is being watched…Prue feels suffocated by her claustrophobic village life, especially when she is humiliated in the most public way. Now Prue is desperate for anonymity –whatever the cost.
It's characters were so so but the plot was good.
