Mina made a big mistake in the elaborate public proposal to Simon. Not only did she discover he is a rat, the whole thing went topsy. She heads to Switzerland, where her godmother Amelie has a. chalet and meets Luke. Ah Luke. You know how things are going to turn out so sit back and enjoy everything that gets these two to their HEA. There are fun cameos from the guests at the chalet, there's winter sports, there's yummy food. This isn't just. romance, it's also a story of family- there's a strong bond between Mina and Amelie. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Nice characters, a fun setting, and well done storytelling make this a good read that will take your mind off the present and onto a holiday.

The Little Swiss Ski Chalet is the perfect cure for the hangover from bingeing on Christmas books. Still packed with joy, hot chocolate and romance but no mistletoe! I didn’t have a hangover, is that possible?
Julie Caplin has created a gorgeous book using the backdrop of an idyllic Swiss ski resort. The characters are all rather wonderful, but Amelie and Johannes deserve a special mention.
I have never been skiing, despite living in a ski resort for four years, but that’s another story! I completely got the ski and après ski vibe; the camaraderie of finding and making new friends with a shared interest.
Mina is a beautiful soul, filled with a lust for life that should be celebrated. It was sad to read the elements where she questioned that wonderful spirit of adventure; the world needs more Minas, not fewer.
Luke is a wonderful romantic lead, his joy for life and his belief in serendipity is a pleasure. Even when serendipity gets a helping glimpse of its destination.
The food that was mentioned had my mouth watering and the chocolate was decadent. I could almost imagine attending the tours but was glad I was only imagining as I would need to be fitted with casters, to get around, if I sampled it all.
The tone of this book had a gentle innocence to it, Mina and Luke’s relationship was steadfastly built on genuine friendship. A perfect foundation for a lasting partnership.

Chocolate, cheese, and serendipity! Julie Caplin’s vivid storytelling transported me to the snowy Swiss Alps. Mina is a fun loving, impetuous, free spirited Woman. when Mina‘s impetuousNess leads to an over-the-top impromptu proposal to her boyfriend things don’t go quite to plan. The bad news, the video of this humiliating moment goes viral. The good news, this leads to Mina heading to Switzerland. In Switzerland Mina stays in a charming chalet owned by her godmother where she meets all kinds of wonderful characters, including a hottie named Luke. even though Mina cannot deny her instant attraction to Luke she is putting on the breaks. Luke is way too much like her and that is NOT what she needs in her life right now. but the more time Mina spends in this gorgeous setting and with this gorgeous man the more she thinks maybe what she thought she needed is not what she needs at all.

Such a heartwarming and delightful story! I just loved everything about this book, even all the snow! mina was such a likable carefree character I just loved her spirit. She was seriously up for anything skiing both downhill and cross country, snowboarding, you name it she did it. Luke was such a charmer and there were so many moments between these two characters that so pulled at my heartstrings. One of my favorite parts of this book was the cheese and chocolate Train, cheese and chocolate are two of my favorite food groups it sounded like heaven to me! A stunning setting. Heartwarming characters. Sweet romance. Delectable goodies. A perfect escapist read.

"Life is for living. You need to wring every last bit of pleasure out of it."

The Little Swiss Ski Chalet is a light and effervescent read about Mina, a spontaneous, fun-loving woman who finds herself in the Swiss Alps on a spur-of-the-moment vacation after a proposal gone wrong.

"I wasn't being presumptuous or precipitous, we've been talking marriage for months. Turns out, he has a new lady friend he forgot to mention... or that she was my best friend."

To celebrate her one-year anniversary with Simon, Mina plans a Mexican-themed party with all their friends, with a surprise inside the pinata for Simon: a wedding ring! But her proposal falls flat, when he turns her down and reveals that he's been sleeping with her best friend, and doesn’t see Mina as a serious life partner at all.

"You can't have fun all the time. At some point you need to focus on what's important. And I can't see you ever doing that. You're like a butterfly, constantly flitting about, looking for the next great thing. It's too exhausting being with you."

Mina retreats to her godmother’s commercial ski chalet in Switzerland for an escape and to do some soul-searching. Maybe her impulsive lifestyle isn’t sustainable in the long run. Maybe Simon is right, and Mina’s fun-loving, adventurous traits just aren’t appealing to anyone looking for a relationship. But then Mina meets Luke, a handsome stranger, who just happens to possess the same qualities, and she can’t deny the attraction between them...

"They would make great friends, but he was not the man for her. And she was not to think of that kiss. He was too like her. Too impulsive. Too spontaneous. Too much fun. She didn’t want to be like that anymore."

Julie Caplin has a knack for exquisite description, creating astonishingly vivid settings and experiences that truly carry the reader away to another place. This was my favorite thing about the book - Caplin absolutely transported me to the Swiss Alps along with Mina. I could almost taste the unique Swiss recipes, like the cherry bread cake and the veal & potatoes in white wine. I could practically smell the chocolate, hear the cuckoo clocks, and feel the snow crunch under my feet!

"She stared out of the window at the jagged peak edges that dominated the skyline and the snow-laden firs that crowded onto the lower slopes. Far below, a valley stretched away to the distance, a dark river meandering through the snowy banks and a tiny village straggled along the valley..."

I found the actual storyline to be a little predictable and cliché, but that seems to be pretty typical of most rom-coms these days. If you’re a romantic type who really enjoys a soul-searching, happy-ending kind of love story, then The Little Swiss Ski Chalet is probably right up your alley!

Not realising this was the 7th book in a series, I was a little worried about me having missed a lot. However, although a part of the series it seems that the books can all be read as standalones which is great.

I instantly liked Mina from the minute I started the book. Her personality shone from page 1 and Julie Caplin did wonders describing her... and making her extremely likeable. It was easy to quickly get to know who she was and care about what was going to happen with her.

The setting of the book was absolutely magical. From a train journey to the snowy ski lodge, I was completely sold. It’s not really anywhere I’ve experienced in a book before so I really liked the change. Also, there was a lot going on with food and I really enjoyed this aspect.

Love interest Luke was also pretty fabulous. He oozed something special as soon as we met him. I really enjoyed him and Mina together as there was really a nice spark between them. The slower romance was a nice one as I really believed them liking each other but also getting to know one another. However, I will say that I was missing a little oomph in certain areas but this will maybe please readers who don’t like a sex scene.

The Little Swiss Ski Chalet not only had a wonderful story but great secondary characters that really helped to make this book great. My first Julie Caplin book but it definitely won’t be my last.

This is a feel-good as a feel-good should be. Romantic, but not too sweet, except for the delicious chocolate of course. Mina experiences all kinds of things during the two weeks with her godmother in Switzerland. The snow is piled up high and even more falls during her stay. It’s a book with a high winter content and that is really enjoyable. You go cross-country skiing and downhill skiing with Mina. Eat some cake in the Ski Chalet and learn more about the handsome Luke. I really liked that you learn something about Switzerland too. Because I did not know that the country has four official languages (German, French, Italian and Romansh), and therefore also several official names (German: die Schweiz, French: la Suisse, Italian: la Svizzera, Romansh : Svizra, Latin: Helvetia). Also, I never knew what the abbreviation CH stood for on the registration plates of Swiss cars, but I do now: Confœderatio Helvetica. Sure, not everything goes smoothly, but a feel-good wouldn't be a feel-good if there wasn't a nice ending to the book, right?

I alternated between the e-book and the audiobook. As someone who speaks German, I found the narrator's German accent a bit weird. Of course, it is nice to twist your voice slightly when an elderly gentleman says something, but I was occasionally quite irritated by the narrator's voice. That did not detract from the story, because I really enjoyed it.

I have loved every one of Janet Caplin's books that I've read. This was no exception.
Huddled up in a pandemic lockdown bubble, I greedily chewed through this book and escaped for a while. It actually made me dream about escaping more literally to Switzerland.
I've never skiied but the idea of alpine walking and cross country skiing does appeal and I definitely want to stay somewhere as homely as Amelie's wonderful B and B/hotel. I hope I would make the grade to be allowed back!

Thanks NetGalley, One More Chapter, and author Julie Caplin for allowing me to read an E-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions are my own! I can't tell you how excited I was to see Author Julie Caplin due to publish another book in this series! I have fallen in love with each and every installment in this series that I have read. This was an relaxing feel-good romance with a wide range of entertaining characters. Her writing allows the readers to be immediately swept up in the characters, storyline, and the atmosphere of the various countries each book is set in. The book made me want to book a ticket to the Swiss Alps to try some amazing chocolate. The author really captures the hearts of the readers not only with main characters relationships, but also the secondary characters that have there own developments. author did a great job with the pacing and allow each character to be developed well. I was eagerly waiting for their next chance encounter. Mina and her godmother have such a sweet relationship. The reader can feel how much both of them care for each other and bring out the best of each other. Mina was a very realistic character. She seemed to be a character I would like to meet and be friends with. She had such a desire to help and care for others with her food and her compassion. Luke was Mina's perfect match! Luke had a love for life and adventure, but also was a careful person with his heart. Overall, I was smiling by the end for the HEA each of the characters received. If you are looking for an romantic getaway to the country of snow and chocolate, this book is for you!

As someone who lives in a Germanophone country (not Switzerland, however) the inclusion of Kaffee und Kuchen was a big highlight for me.

I loved this opportunity to escape from my living room for once and travel to a new country I've never seen or experienced before.

Minna is a wonderful main character, and I loved following her journey. That said, some aspects of the book, espeically early on, were a little cliché and predictable for me.

I loved this book, having had a couple of holidays in this part of Switzerland years ago this book brought back many happy memories. We visited the village mentioned in the book as well which made this book much more enjoyable.

What's not to love? Julie Caplin + new book in the "Romantic escapes" series + chocolate - it's a match made in heaven!

The book begins with Mina who has a surprise for her boyfriend, and the surprise goes viral. No spoilers but I was not fond of the boyfriend. However, this spurs her into taking action and going to stay in Switzerland, with her Godmother who owns a ski chalet. The description of her journey her shopping en route, I felt like I was there, a real dose of escapism. I also learnt a few things, about food, skiing and Switzerland.

Not only were all the characters (in the main!) in this book absolutely lovely, the descriptions of the chocolate and food just had me drooling. I suggest you have some chocolate on hand before beginning this book because you will be craving it in no time.

What starts as a little break from work ends up in a life-changing experience in the beautiful Swiss Alps.

The Little Swiss Ski Chalet is book # 7 in the Romantic Escapes series but can be read as a standalone.

I have previously reviewed The Little Teashop in Tokyo, and I was excited to take another literary trip, this time to Swiss.

Mina was a food technician whose ideas were too big for the company she worked for. Her bright and risk-taking personality was, at the same time, an asset and a problem in her life.

When her boyfriend cheated on her, and her revenge got her a few unpaid weeks off work, she decided to visit her godmother in her chalet on the Swiss Mountains.

It was a sweet story about accepting who you are and find a place to belong.

There was a lot of information about Switzerland, including delicious recipes that made me seriously hungry. So much so that I even tried my luck at baking.

The side characters were sweet, some more than others (lol). My favorite was the grumpy but lovely Johannes. I loved his proposal idea so very much (You will have to read to find out what I'm talking about).

The romance includes a furtive kiss on the train and a generous dose of serendipity. The couple was charming and very down-to-Earth about their relationship.

In times of COVID, it is a blessing to travel to places and meet new people. I've been to Switzerland once, but I did not venture into the Alps. Hopefully, next time!

The Little Swiss Ski Chalet is a lovely contemporary romance full of cold weather and warm characters!

First of all I have to thank #Netgalley #omcreads and #HarperCollinsUK for the opportunity to read this book in advance. I know this author thanks to The little teashop in Tokyo, one of my favorite books among my contemporary summer readings and I was eager to read the next one and catch up the previews works of this long series.
What can I say?
I've really enjoyed this reading and I can't wait to add more Caplin's books to my contemporary collection!
The merit of this author is that she entangles a story with a big amount of informations about food, culture and places where the book is set, without resulting boring or a sort of travel guide. It’s always interesting to read them and often I came with the thought to add those places to my personal journey wishlist!
The plot in this case is really simple; I expected more plot-twists or a sort of love triangle, but fortunately for me, no! There is no excessive drama; this is the story of Mina that takes her time to think about herself and what she wants and, despite the premises she should change and “grow up” to be a person that someone want to have a relation with, to understand that yes, she has some flaws that can irritate people (as everyone else) but her view of life is not entirely wrong. It has been very cute to see the relationship with Amelie and I was curious to know more about her parents, since it’s obvious this wound still hurts her so much for the unresolved questions she has. And that’s normal, due to how they’re always depicted by other people! At the same time, seeing the beginning, I was sure to find more funny moments, but it has been still pleasant anyway.
The most beautiful character of this story is Luke. Oh, how much I’ve loved him! He’s such a spontaneous, kind and easy person you can’t adore him and I think his is a figure you don’t see very often in books. He’s been such a fresh air! The thing that made me fall in love with him is the fact that he showed every time that enjoying life and unplanned things doesn’t necessary mean do not care about everyone and everything. On the contrary, his personal background and his constant presence for Mina and Amelie proved the exact opposite!
And the chemistry between those two? Omg, I’ve fangirled SO MUCH and I admit, I hoped to see some more scenes but it’s ok. This book made me dream and hope for the happy ending until the very last pages.
So, it has been a real pleasure to start the new year with a beautiful 4.5 stars reading like this one. And now…it’s Hanna’s turn!

This is the first book from Julia Caplin that I have read and wow, I’ve been missing out. I loved everything about this book and the food angle was really wonderful to read and learn about.
Minas zest for life was refreshing and I loved the growth she made as a person. As much as I loved Luke, my favourite character was Kristian. I’m now off to download more from Julia.
