This is the first book in a new cosy mystery series. I am not familiar with this author and thoroughly enjoyed this book.
It was exactly what you want and expect from a cosy mystery. Wonderfully written characters, funny and charming, witty, fabulous setting and scenery and an easy to follow entertaining storyline.
I will be looking out for boom 2 in this series and I recommend for cosy readers.
The first book in a NEW cosy mystery series! Jodie was in the police before she became a single Mum. Her love of food led her to catering and when an old school friend says that their caterer for his wedding has let them down- this could be the break she is looking for. The day before the wedding there is an argument between the Mrs to be and the Mrs that was (the ex) of the groom Tony. On the morning of the wedding one is missing and one is found dead. DCI Withers appears on the scene and realises that Jodie wasn't called “nosy” at school for nothing. She is determined that Tony is innocent despite being the most likely suspect and sets out to find evidence to prove this, something Withers doesn't first appear to care about. I really enjoyed this- I found myself smiling at Jodie and her tenacity and zest for the truth and life. It's a lovely easy read to curl up in front of the fire with. Nothing off putting, some wonderful characters and a well thought out plot to keep you guessing and plenty of smiles along the way. There is even a recipe at the end. I very much look forward to the next book as I'm sure Jodie won’t just be cooking in the future.

Jodie 'nosey' Parker, an ex policewoman, now caterer takes on a job for her old friend Tony. A short notice favour to provide the food for his wedding. But when his ex wife is found dead and his bride to be goes missing, Jodie finds herself embroiled in the investigation.
The front cover of this book is so appealing, its what first drew me to the book. I love the bright colours and the quirky font with the beautiful Cornish backdrop.
An intriguing story, very humorous with loveable characters that kept my interest throughout. It was an easy read
.and exactly to my taste!
Jodie Parker left London’s cops and her cheating husband to come back to her hometown on the Cornwall coast with her pre teen daughter.
She became a chef and she opened her own catering company and now she is ready to start her new quiet life in Penstowan.
She doesn’t expect, by accepting to carter one of her old friend’s wedding, to be involved in the investigation for a murderer.
Murder On The Menu was such a good read.
I fell into the well thought out plot at the first chapter and I closed the book only to take some sleep because I was too curious to know how it ended.
This was the first time I've read a Fiona Leitch’s work and her intriguing, humorous wording and the nice, witty and funny characters have conquered my reader heart.
I particularly enjoyed the atmosphere she gave to the story, it was never boring or heavy.
My favourite character is Jodie, she is a likeable character and I so wanted to help her to find the murderer.
The ending clears up any doubt about the crime but it leaves an open door on Jodie’s future, will she find love? Is catering her real career?
I highly recommend to read this story and escape to Cornwall to follow Jodie, Tony and DCI Wither in this journey full of turn and twists.
I started this one with high hopes as I really love a cosy mystery but this one fell a little flat for me, so much so that I gave up after 36% as I just wasn't interested in finding out what happened.
There was nothing wrong with the characters or the writing, it just didn't grab my attention and I wasn't invested in any of the characters. It could just have been me and I may come back to it at a later date but for now this one isn't for me.
This was exactly as described on the cover - "a cozy mystery novel". In terms of the 'mystery' there were no clues to solve, nothing to work out, no blood, no frenzy - it was a nice story with fun characters to just enjoy rather than participate in - exactly like it said. It was easy reading and light-hearted escapism done well. And, there was plenty to keep you attention in form of the characters and humour.
I particularly loved the family dynamic between the three generations of Parker women, perhaps best summed up by this little extract where Jodie (Nosey) Parker's 12-yr old daughter, Daisy, asks if she can get her nose pierced as well as her ears. Too which Jodie replies "Of course! And one in your belly button. And a tattoo. And Nana'll get a nipple ring while we're there." Followed by Nana's "Ooh. Just imagine getting that caught on your cardie." I also loved the flirty banter, innuendo and love/hate dynamic between Jodie and DCI Withers.
This story got my hooked from the beginning. It didn’t take me long to finish the book. It was easy and enjoyable throughout out, along with the suspense and murder.
I received this ARC via Netgalley and Harper Collins/One More Chapter, in return for an honest review. This is the first book in what I hope is a long running series. I enjoyed this book very much. It’s a good take on a modern English mystery, set in Cornwall. Jodie Parker, aka ‘Nosey’, returns with her daughter to her Cornish hometown after serving in the Metropolitan Police. Jodie’s dream is to own a catering business in town. When she goes into the local furniture store and runs into an old school friend, he asks if she can cater his wedding that coming weekend (yikes!). Well, she agrees, as long as the sofa she’s admiring is thrown into the deal. When she arrives at the posh hotel, things don’t go quite to plan. The bride-to-be goes missing and is presumed dead while her friend’s ex-wife winds up dead on the premises. Jodie’s past helps her in doing things like securing the scene and anticipating what the local detective should be doing (notice the ‘should’). While he’s quite the looker, he’s also rather a pain in the beginning. It’s fun to watch the relationship develop as Jodie navigates her past and her present while helping her old friend.
Good premise and well executed. Cozy mystery readers should enjoy this one. There isn’t much emphasis on the food (the sausages make a funny side bit) but you shouldn’t miss it as you read about Jodie’s adventures. I look forward to the next in this series.
This was a great quick read. I had not read the author before but will definitely seek out more from her. The story really sucks you in and I loved the characters.
I liked the characters in this book, especially Daisy and her grandmother Shirley. I enjoyed the mystery although I thought it was a bit slow in places. I'd like to see how Jodie and Nathans' relationship develops. I was surprised by who the bad guy was and I liked the scene when it was revealed. #Murder on the Menu #NetGalley
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of Murder on the Menu by Fiona Leitch. Jody (Nosey) Parker moved back to Penstowan, Cornwall. She needed to buy a couch so she stopped by a store and left with a couch and a catering job. She had worked for Police, but later became a chef. Chaos erupts at night before wedding. A fight, than a death. Jodie is enjoying putting puzzle pieces together. Then the bride goes missing and the police put Tony, the groom, in jail. Wonder what happens next. I like reading cozy mysteries that take place in the UK. The characters are a bit eccentric but enjoyable. I did wonder if she continues as a chef as she didn't do much baking. Will have to read another one to see what happens.
Cornwall Beckons.....
The first in a series of cosy mysteries featuring Jodie Parker (Nosey). Our protagonist has recently left the Metropolitan Police and returned to her Cornish hometown, along with daughter Daisy, and an ambition of starting a catering company. Unbeknown to her, life will be nothing like the relaxing and quietly content picture she envisioned. Murder is definitely on the menu. Enjoyable fun read with a likeable protagonist and a colourful cast of supporting characters. A promising start to the series.
The author has a way of plunging you right into this book and making you want to be right there in the action. Her characters are realistic, but not predictable. There are lots of things happening in the book to make you think you’ve found the guilty party. She also does an excellent job of describing the locations in which parts of the book are set. I especially like the way the main character’s mother and daughter are included in the sleuthing. This is the first book in the Nosey Parker Cosy Mystery series. I am definitely looking forward to the next book. I received an arc of of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is an entertaining murder mystery, with a dash of romance thrown in, making it a great light read! The story centers on cop-turned-chef Jodie Parker, aka ‘Nosey’, and a murder that occurs in her little town of Penstowan shortly after she moves home.
The story was well-written, with enough imagery and detail to make the place come alive, as well as engaging characters that were fun and believable. I liked the interactions between Jodie and her family, as well as the scenes between other characters, and the flow was nice and easy to follow. I felt swept along by the author, in a good way. DCI Withers and Jodie will definitely be a fun pair to follow!
I think the various British/Cornish dialogue and slang included was good, but I kind of wish there were more details like it thrown in - at times it felt like Jodie was almost a newcomer, and not really like she had actually grown up in Cornwall. The details included were easy to understand, so more would have been nice!
Lastly, this story is supposed to be a little more food-related, so more recipes/cooking throughout might add more flavor and interest to the story as well!
This is the first book of a new series and I absolutely loved it. It was such a compelling and pleasant mystery read!
Jodie is such a likeable and genuine character and I really loved that this novel is set in Cornwall.
The writing was magnificent, flowing easily and humorous throughout.
The characters feel real and the whole setting is really perfect. I also love that it’s fast paced and funny but intriguing enough to keep me reading chapter after chapter to find out how the book was going to end.
I enjoyed that Jodie had police background as it made her whole “investigation” more believable. Also loved that she was a caterer and loved the opportunity to think of the delicious food that was mentioned during the book.
Overall, I really loved this book and can’t wait to read more from the series. Would definitely recommend it to fans of cosy crime mysteries.
I would like to thank Netgalley, One More Chapter and Harper Collins Uk for an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review
A delightful cozy mystery! "Nosey" Jodie is home for good, determined to start a brand new life with her daughter as a caterer, no longer in the police business. When she agrees to cater an ex-boyfriends wedding, she is surprised to have a dead body on her hands and a missing bride. Nosey tries to figure out "who done it" and come to terms with her past and her future.
Author Fiona Leitch is fairly new to me, and I am so glad to have found her.
Murder on the menu is a great cozy full of twists and turns that leaves you guessing until the very end. Love the British humor. The characters were well-developed. It even has a recipe I can’t wait to try out.
This book was provided to me in exchange for my honest opinion. Definitely recommend!
Can you get a better name for an ex Met police officer, now caterer, that may be missing being a policewoman, than Jodie "Nosey" Parker! Jodie is back in her home Cornish village and the nickname has been revised immediately and before long you see just how justified it is.
It is also refreshing for a cosy mystery to have someone who is not a complete bumbling amateur when it comes trying to clear her old friends name, and actually has a good sense about her. But she is also not trusting the local police will be able to solve the crime without her involvement, and she has an uncanny knack of being places and finding out information!
I'm trying to work out how on earth I haven't read Fiona Leitch before as this book was so enjoyable, written in a way that just worked so well for me, and I loved everything about it. The characters all feel quite real, and I could picture them clearly, and watching Jodie come up with various theories in fascinating.
I'll admit for someone who is a caterer, there wasn't really much emphasis on food in the book, but the food that is mentioned did sound delicious and there was a recipe included at the end too, which is always a nice touch.
This is a fabulous first book in a new series, and I know that I will definitely be wanting to read more from Nosey Parker and everyone else in this Cornish Village.
Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,
Murder on the Menu is the first book in a new cozy mystery series, introducing Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker.
I really enjoyed this easy read and getting to know the characters. It also kept me guessing until the end.
The perfect read and light mystery to escape with!
This is a great start to a new series by Fiona Leitch.
Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker is an ex met. police officer, she is divorced and returns to Cornwall with her daughter. Jodies has re trained to be a cook/ caterer. She springs in to private investigator mode when her oldest friend is arrested for murder.
This book is fantastic the writing flows easily , there is humour and also some heart felt reminiscing on the main characters part. Jodie is a great character , likeable and also well rounded and very genuine. The supporting characters also fit into this story perfectly and the nature of the writing makes you feel as if you know them all personally. This book is a must read for all cosy mysteries fans, it’s fast paced and funny and also left me feeling I needed to read chapter after chapter to find out the culprit.
I eagerly await the next in the cosy mystery series .
Thanks to Netgalley and One More Chapter for this advance copy.
