This is an interesting book at times but I had a hard time getting through it. I ultimately was hoping for more in terms of concrete advice and instruction. It ended up not being a book that I found personally helpful.
I have mixed feelings about Electric Body, Electric Health. On the one hand, it is packed with information that gave me a greater understanding of the makeup of my aura and chakras, and the writing is clear and presented in easily digestible sections. On the other, I felt that the author’s focus on using tuning forks to clear energy blockages is misleading in that energy work is not a substitute for healing the core wounds that lead to such blockages. Also, though the subject matter is interesting and relevant to my journey, it took me weeks to finish this book—it held my interest only in snippets. This is atypical for me, as I tend to read a book in a couple of days.
Despite these criticisms, the author is clearly an authority on this subject, and there is more than enough wonderful information here to recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about who and what they really are, and how to heal mind, body and spirit.
The subtitle of this book says it all. As McKusick focuses on “using the electromagnetism within (and around) you to rewire, recharge, and raise your voltage.” MuKusick is the founder of “Biofield Tuning” (also known as “sound balancing”) a type of energy balancing using tuning folks. This book is for both the energy practitioner (whether Biofield Tuning, Reiki, Healing Touch or other) and the lay person. The first part of the book is the most helpful because it provides an overview of the research and science behind bioelectromagnetic therapies (AKA “energy work”). Much of this discussion centers around the concept of plasma. The second part of the book records McKusick’s experience with the body’s energy fields through a chakra lens. Although much of this information will be already known to energy practitioners, there are enough “golden nuggets” to make it a worthwhile read. For the lay person, she provides many ways to balance personal energy quickly and easily. Nothing could be more important.

I found this book literally in a way that others have spoken about when a book falls out of the shelf in a book store. It just kind of jumps out at you and you feel compelled to look at it and read it. This happened to me but in an electronic and digital kind of way. I was perusing books to review next from the selected options and this one just popped up on my website page. It literally was not there a moment ago and then it was there. It was as if Divine intervention had helped me along my path.
It is interesting that its sub-title is saying the same kind of thing – that using the electromagnetism within and around you can and does affect you and your life.
I was absolutely mesmerized by the first half the book. I found incredible insights and meanings. For example, I always assumed there was only three states of matter being solid, liquid and gas but Eileen explains there is a fourth state called plasma and that it is an electrically charged gas taking up 99.99 percent of space which connects stars, planets and galaxies in webs of light. That is phenomenally important news. She reviews recent science information to support her work.
Most importantly, Eileen Day McKusick, has mapped out the body with varying levels of information stored in it. She uses tuning forks to smooth out and change blocked passages of information found in the energetic fields around our body.
I think one of the healthiest and most important pieces of advice she gives is the point that “This is the single greatest trick to being high voltage to not judge or suppress any of your emotions but rather to seek to mange them appropriately.” This means, we have to deal with problems as they will not magically go away on their own. To flow through it and get to the other side, you need to deal with emotions, problems and issues.
Eileen has taught many other people how to work on people's energetic fields with tuning forks. People like Dr. John Gray who is author of “Men are From Mars and Women are From Venus,” along with Marci Shimoff who is author of “Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul” both have taken courses from her and support her work.
She has previously published “Tuning the Human Biofield: Healing with Vibrational Sound Therapy” in September 2014. She has an informative website with her name – https://www.eileenmckusick.com. Further, she has a store that sells her specifically designed tuning forks at her website – https://biofieldtuningstore.com.
The only issue I had with the book was the second half was when she was going into the various chakras. Honestly, my reaction was “Oh Great! Another chakra book.” Having said that, Eileen was able to show she has been working and mapping the energetic body field well because there was quite a few insights into the various respective chakra areas that made a lot of logical sense in the problems and issues people were dealing with.
I give this book a 4.25 out of 5 for a rating. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in self-healing or wanting to “increase their voltage” so that they can be a more positive force in their life and that of the world around them.

While reading this book, I felt like I was visiting with a friend - one that I liked; one that talked a lot and repeated herself at times. That happens.
There are two parts to this book. I enjoyed the first half. She describes her personal background, includes noted works of past scientists with energy and electronic fields. She also talked about her work with tuning forks. She said it's possible to tune the body like someone tunes a piano. I wish she included more detail how it works or if it's easy for someone to purchase a tuning fork for an at-home healing session.
The second part is about the physical anatomy and how she has determined how different parts of the body are affected by emotional issues such as depression, sadness and guilt. She said it's no surprise that heart disease is the number one killer as many people hold sadness within. This section included how to heal hate and used a political figure as an example. I think this was a little risky with a divided country. Nevertheless, she said it's good to share words and feelings and that's what she did.
In the Appendix there's a list of recommended books, researchers and her website for those wanting products and services from her company, Biofield Tuning. I don't think it's enough to include a list of well known authors in the back of the book. It would have given the reader more confidence in her work if the preface included remarks from someone in the field such as Carolyn Myss, Cyndi Dale or Donna Eden.
My thanks to the publisher and NetGallery for allowing me to read this advanced copy.
I love a resource that guides readers through a process of understanding how to use what is already within to achieve a better state of being. This book by Eileen Day McKusick is one of those rare books that offers a new way of looking at our ‘wiring’ and how we can tap into our body’s energy to create emotional and physical healing. I am prefacing my review by mentioning that I was trained in traditional Western Medicine and have over two decades of experience as a client, practitioner and teacher of various subtle energy healing modalities including sound. From my perspective Eileen McKusick’s book is one of (if not the) most comprehensive explorations of the topic of the human biofield, bioelectricity and vibrational healing. Her clear writing style breaks down a very complex topic into easily digested parts, bridging scientific and spiritual points of view. For many this approach to health and healing still falls into the New Age, woo-woo category, yet it is growing in credibility and application to health and healing issues that the prevailing mechanical/chemical model fails to address.
The book is divided into two parts. The first portion highlights the historical roots of subtle energy healing based on the science of sound, light and electricity. The author stresses that her approach focuses on increasing voltage rather than raising vibration. The former implies a grounding of consciousness into the body and the latter often describes a desire to disconnect and escape from unpleasant, even painful sensations and feelings. She goes on to describe how she discovered and mapped the human biofield using tuning forks to identify and release blockages in the body’s energy system. She observed that when emotions generated in response to traumatic events are not fully acknowledged and expressed, they remain in the subtle energy field. Not only can these be identified, but the nature and timing of the event can be ascertained as well.
The second part addresses biofield anatomy, including all of the major energy centers (chakras) as well as the minor centers in the feet and knees. The sections are full of information about the physical, emotional and mental issues associated with each center and are liberally illustrated with examples from her work with clients. There is a wealth of practical information that is not limited to her expertise in the use of tuning forks and sound, including practices to increase awareness, shift mental perspectives and work with the breath.
One of the things I most appreciate about the author’s style is her humility in presenting her work as a hypothesis, a work-in-progress, which is continuing to be revised and expanded as new research comes to light. For those who desire to go deeper into this topic I recommend looking at the resources listed at the end of the book and checking out her website.
My thanks to the author, St Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing a digital ARC in exchange for an independent, honest review.

This book talks about our world of electricity. Not the electricity we pay for that powers our homes, but the electric nature of our body and our universe and how we are all tied into one. It’s fascinating, maybe a bit woo-woo for some, cumbersome in parts, but I think there’s a lot of knowledge to be learned in this book. At first she talks about her own path to healing, then she teaches and gives advice on how to deal with certain things to discover what could cause your problems and ways to find your own healing. For example, tamping down emotions can wreak havoc on us in ways we might not realize, but how can we recognize and improve upon this without seeking help with her tuning forks? She does speak a lot of that, which is interesting, and I believe we can all learn ways to be self-introspective, which she helps with. I’m not sure I’ve figured it all out yet, but she offers such great insight. It’s easier said than done from my experience, but she goes into such depth with the chakras, more so than I have ever read anywhere else. Not only that, but her writing is crisp, clear, and interesting. The book was much better than any book that try to teach about bioelectricity. It’s one I would need/want to go back through again and again to understand it all. A keeper to use a reference, because there's a lot of info in this book.
So excited for Eileen McKusick's second book. I found out about her work when I was interested in sound healing and I bought a bunch of tuning forks from her site, though I never got to maximize them. I received an advance copy of this book through NetGalley, and I was so excited to get reading.
As I really liked the comprehensive review of physics-related literature that helps provide the foundation for an electromagnetic universe, and the human biofield. It's fascinating to see how the science has evolved, disagreements, retractions, and all.
I also really appreciate the in-depth explanations and issues that potentially arise out of each chakra. I don't know of any book that's this comprehensive with regard to the mental, emotional, and physical health issues that arise from each chakra. There is also additional information on other energy centers from Eileen McKusick's bodywork experience. I was able to make the connection to the issues that she described and the physical ailments I've been experiencing.
Lastly, I thought that this book would focus on biofield tuning as the only healing tool throughout this book, but I'm pleasantly surprised that Eileen focuses on simple, practical solutions and offers affirmations, meditation suggestions, and mindset changes to live a holistically healthier life. Of course, her experience with healing comes almost exclusively from biofield tuning but she offers a lot of suggestions to heal oneself that are not strictly tuning-fork based, and I really appreciated that, especially since it can be a challenge to work on yourself through tuning forks initially.
'Electric Body, Electric Health' is a fascinating book about the electromagnetic field of the body and how frequency, vibration, and sound are responsible for the health and well being of each person. The author who is a Biofield Tuning practitioner and discoverer of what she calls the “biofield”, has devised a system that uses sound to bring coherence to the low voltage areas of the body that contribute to illness and dis-ease. McKusick uses analogies of the human body as a type of battery that relies on high voltage power for homeostasis. This clever analogy was used to explain the electric body and the more complicated scientific components. These days it’s not difficult to find many books on the subject of human bioelectricity, but McKusick goes a step further by sharing many case notes of her biofield tuning practice and the incredible results she has found, that ultimately shrink the boundaries between science and spirituality. There are several chapters about the electrical components of each chakra and energy zone of the body and how our emotions either raise or lower our voltage.
Overall this was an informative book about an obscure topic that offers incredible potential for healing and scientific exploration.
