Wow! What an ending to an amazing series! This book was definitely worth the wait! I read the whole thing in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down! This was full of action that kept me on the edge of my seat! The last line of this book has stuck with me. I highly recommend this book and this series!

“Oh my goodness!”
“What?”
“No!”

I think those are the phrases that I found myself thinking and even saying out loud on occasion, the most often while reading Soul Raging. From the opening line, “The devil was once an angel” to the last (you have to read it for yourself!!), this book sinks its claws in and does not let go!

Once again, Ms. Kendig did not disappoint, and with the final book in her “The Book of the Wars” series, she has hit another literary home run. As always, with her stories, Kendig drew me in and held me hostage during the high intensity, roller coaster ride of a plot that I have come to expect and love from her books.

Soul Raging is the long-awaited series finale of the Book of the Wars. Lief Metcalfe is negotiating an uncertain line trying to figure out what happened during the gap in his memory. Is our beloved hero truly a traitor? Who can we trust? Betrayal is around every corner. You will stay engaged, you will be shocked, you will guess wrong, and you might not be ok when it is all over.

Many of the other characters have significant developments in this book. You need to read the first two books in “The Book of the Wars” series- Storms Rising and Kings Falling. Otherwise, you will be lost and have a hard time understanding the storyline and the characters. If you are up to it, you could even go further back and read some of Ms. Kendig’s other military series, where several of these characters start to appear.

My favorite quote from the book was this- “God’s character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change.”

Oh, and you will not want to miss out on the last line of the book; it is an epic last line! But don’t take my word for it. Get your copy and read it for yourself!! But don’t skip ahead to do so.

Soul Raging by Ronie Kendig once again proves that Kendig is at the top of Christian thrillers. I have no idea how she creates and keeps up with the complicated plot lines and scenes from book to book. This is not a quick read even though you feel your heart racing and you want to read fast to know what is going to happen.

It is action packed with scenes that will have you holding your breath. The story took me on a wild and wonderful ride. You can read this book as a standalone but it would be a waste. Read all of them with the advantage that the entire series is available now.

I always look forward to her new releases. I don’t know how she does it, but she just keeps getting better. Be sure to have plenty of time to flip the pages in this one because you won’t want to put it down. I devoured it! Thank you,for more hours of edge-of-the-seat entertainment. I’m already looking forward to her next series.

I've been a fan of Ronie Kendig's for a long time. She knows how to bring in intense suspense and weave a story that has intriguing elements. Soul Raging is the last book in the Book of the Wars series and a satisfying conclusion. You get to see all the Reaper crew that were in books 1 and 2. There's a touch of romance, lots of suspense, conclusions to mysterious elements, basically the way you want a series to end. Fans of Ronie Kendig will enjoy it.

I love a good antihero. I love stories where you’re not sure who’s good or bad, who you should be rooting for. Ms. Kendig is the MASTER at the antihero, and keeps you guessing right to the end of her stories as to who it is you should actually be behind. Soul Raging is no different. You’re instantly sucked into the action, and your loyalty will keep jumping throughout. A thrilling, action-packed, totally immersive conclusion to the Book of the Wars series.

Soul Raging was everything I wanted for the conclusion of this series and at the same time, absolutely nothing like what I expected it to be--in a good way. The way only Kendig can do.

This isn't a standalone book. In fact, I'd like to go a step further and say that even if you've read the first two (Storm Rising and Kings Falling), you might want to go back for a refresher. Better yet--start from the beginning and make a character list. 'Cause there are a lot of characters and storylines that overlap and intersect in beautiful ways, but it's easy to lose track of whose who and what their call signs (nicknames) are, let alone what team they're on. You can absolutely read all three books without this, but trust me--it'll come in handy!

This book was like stepping outside for a breath of fresh air in the middle of winter. It makes your heart race, the hair on your arms stand on end, and sends a jolt of awareness straight to your toes. But whew--it's refreshing, invigorating, and memorable. I loved it!

In the final installment of The Book of the Wars, Ronie Kendig brings readers on a wild adventure across the globe as characters we have fallen in love with begin the final battle prophesied in the series.

Leif Metcalfe has had about all he can take without getting any answers to what has happened to him. He decides to take matters into his own hands; a calculated risk that comes at a high price. He must now join forces with the very enemy he swore to fight against. Those he cares about are at a loss to understand his actions and how to help him come back to them and the man they know him to be. Iskra Todorova is most worried about his soul and knows more than anyone that the course he is on is not one he can survive for long. With not only Leif’s life at stake, Iskra fights for the safety of her daughter and to take down the man behind it all, Ciro Veratti. With a heavy heart, the Reaper sets out to hunt one of their own and in the process start the final battle from the Book of the Wars.

Ronie Kendig is a master when it comes to writing a story with intense detail, action, suspense and so much more. There are some books I read that can be considered lighthearted and simply flow with little attention to detail. I read them but don’t have to pay very close attention to get the gist of the story and follow along. Others, like anything Ronie Kendig writes, need to be read with a fine-tooth comb in order to not miss the important details and all the subtle hints given throughout to connect the story by the end.

Going along with that is following the series in order, so much of what she writes connects with the other books in the series; these are not ones that can be read out of order or as a standalone, each one needs to be read in the order it was written in order to follow the characters and story line on their journey. For fans of her previous work, you will not want to miss this one. I loved this series and felt a deep connection with the characters. The way she writes characters with such dynamic personalities is like no other writer out there. This is a great conclusion to a fun action-packed series and readers will thoroughly enjoy this edition to what is one of the best reads of the year for me. I recommend this to readers that have read the previous in the series and enjoy military thrillers with drama, action, suspense and so much more.

Genre : Christian Fiction, Action, Military Suspense, Romance
My rating: 4.5 stars!
Language: Clean! (Though there is mention "cursing", and a character thinks about she used the f-word; meaning "friends". A character uses the word, "asinine")
Age Range: 17+
Content: Gun fights, explosions, death; it's all part of the action and military suspense. There is choking, knife wounds, and you get the picture.
Favorite Character: Leif, Baddar, Iskra, and Mercy
Favorite quotes:
"God's character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change."
"And he turned a new Leif, if you get my badly placed pun."

Conclusion:
This was an epic ending to the series, "The Book of the Wars". I wasn't sure how it would end, so the author kept me in constant suspense. There are twists and turns that leave you wondering who you can trust and who you can't. Characters who I never would have thought were betrayers - turns out they are.
Leif has some big choices to make. By now you start to understand that Leif has some part to play in the prophecies... but how does it end? Will he make the decisions that will alter the course of his life and in a sense, change the world as well?
Iskra I've really grown to love. Smart as whip, and definitely a kick-butt person, she will stop at nothing to protect and save those who she loves.
The character that surprised me the most was Mercy. There was a lot of character development there with her (and a with a certain Afghanistan man), that I ended up liking her even more. While there were times where I was annoyed with her, in the end, she still landed on my top favorite characters (who couldn't love a marvel loving character?).
Betrayal is at every twist and turn, and suspense is unending. The best quote of the book, which was a killer sentence - is also the last line of the book (an epic last line to an epic last book!). Want to know what it was? Go get your copy of "Soul Raging" today and find out for yourself.

Soul Raging- Ronie Kendig

Do you like rollercoasters? Twists and turns and terror and whoops! Another twist when you least expect it? Then you’ll like this book. I love Ronie Kendig’s writing, have since I was in my teens (and we’re not going to talk about how long that’s been!), and I have to say, I think each book is better than the last!

I highly recommend reading the whole series, or even better, reading the Tox files too, just so you understand the background of this story.
If you like clean, military, suspense, with a dash of futuristic (or at least we want to think they aren’t actually doing that to our soldiers, who knows! ) a touch of romance, globe trotting, Ancient artifacts with messages for today. Characters who lose faith in themselves, characters who refuse to lose faith in their friends. There is SO much going on in this story! Just... go get Soul Raging. You won’t regret it, honest.

You know that feeling you get when you meet up with a best friend after a very long time, this is what I felt when I go this book. This is the final book in "The Book of the Wars series" and you should definitely read it in order. If you can you should also read "The Tox Files" before you read this series, since you meet Leif and other vital members of the team in that series.

Back to 'Soul Raging' - it was everything I've come to expect from Ronie Kendig. Action, action and more action. Heroes with a tender side (I totally felt Leif's struggle with getting answers to his questions and doing what he knows is right), twists and turns - there was so many "oh no" and "really!" moments, and Ronie Kendig's famous banter. At the end the story felt too short. I would have loved to spend more time with Leif and Iskra and Mercy, but the conclusion was really sweet. I am secretly hoping for a Novella.

I loved Canyon Metcalfe in this. A novella or series about the Metcalfe brothers would be high on my wish list.

But seriously, if you have never read Ronie Kendig's Military thrillers, you need need to give it a try.
I will keep reading anything new she brings out and are almost caught up on her backlist.

I thought I was ready for this book. I truly did. I blocked off the whole afternoon so I could read it uninterrupted. I psyched myself up and even did a bit of a recap on Kings Falling, because that ending… But there’s only so much preparation you can do for a roller coaster ride. At some point, you just have to get on and hang on. And in this case, the stomach-bottoming sensations began on page one. But just like a real roller coaster ride, I wanted to go again as soon as it was all over!

All metaphors aside, this was one wild ride. (Okay, almost all metaphors.) I’ve become hugely invested in these characters and felt like I was holding my breath as the events unfolded, wondering whether my trust had been misplaced in some instances or unjustly withheld in others. Not to mention wondering how many of them would live to see the end of the book.

Relationships were forged, tested, strengthened, crippled, resuscitated, lost, and restored (not necessarily in that order). Lives—and souls—hung in the balance. There was the trademark banter and camaraderie, even as tensions stretched to snapping point. And there was a climax that not only left my heart pounding but brought Leif’s personal journey to a powerful and meaningful conclusion. Wowsers doesn’t even begin to cover it.

No, Ronie Kendig’s books are not for the faint-hearted. But they are for those who love high-stakes action, fast-moving plots, and characters who are pushed to the outer limits of their endurance to find out what they’re really made of and what matters most.

"And wasn't that the point of salvation? The value placed on life, regardless of a subjective definition of worth?"

This conclusion to The Book of the Wars series is an incredible ride, filled with plot twists, plenty of battle, and betrayals upon betrayals that form a cohesive, complex, and intricately woven epic tale of good triumphing over evil even when stacked against impossible odds. This series definitely needs to be read in order to digest the details and to fully appreciate what makes Reaper team tick. This book has been on my list of most anticipated releases of 2020 and Ronie Kendig has truly outdone herself.

Spanning multiple countries, the Reaper team continues its search for the Armageddon Coalition and ways to bring down the its evil work to overtake the world. As the truth about Leif and the medically-enhanced soldiers spills out, the team is paralyzed and fractured when no one seems to be who they are supposed to be. There will be lots of gasps as pages are turned more quickly with each chapter to find out what happens next. And, yes, there is romance in the air, too, for several couples, which balances out the high-speed action nicely. This story is told through multiple third person narratives - Leif, Iskra, Mercy, Cell, Dru, Hermanns, and Veratti - and that helps gel the plot as the pieces click into place one at a time.

If you enjoy adrenaline-filled, masterfully woven suspense, you definitely want to read this book and the series. It's one of the best reads of 2020!

Ronie Kendig’s final installment in her series, Book of the Wars, does not disappoint. Soul Raging kept me enthralled from start to finish. Once again, the action is non-stop, the emotional angst is intense, and the suspense is constant. The final battle is coming and Reaper isn’t sure who to trust. Can they trust each other? Join Leif Metcalfe, Iskra Todorova and the rest of Reaper as they race to save friends, family and the world from what Ciro Veratti and ArC are trying to accomplish. This intense finale definitely lived up to my expectations!

The opening was thrilling. The middle was nail biting. The ending was intensely satisfying and well worth the wait for the conclusion of the The Book of The Wars series. I didn’t want it to end, but am always excited to see what Kendig will write next. “Soul Raging” was an intense read from the first sentence to the last and ohhh my, that final sentence made the whole series come to a thrilling conclusion.

“Leif had gone all Jason Bourne on them.”

I won’t lie, this was an emotional read with so many curve balls thrown, my head was spinning! As Leif disappears and Iskra takes off after him with a team not knowing if he’s turned on them or not, it left me not knowing who to trust and what would happen next. There is only so much I can divulge here without giving away the storyline. However, needless to say the rapid-fire fiction of Kendig is full steam ahead in “Soul Raging.”

“Canyon rolled around with a grin. Saito sniggered. “You love ticking him off.”
“One of life’s finer pleasures.” Canyon nodded to Iskra.”

Witty banter keeps this team going and is one of the great pleasure of reading this series. However, there is a whole aspect of distrust that darkened the storyline. Talking about who to trust, the Reaper Team had me going through every emotion in this book. Grief, love, sadness, fear, joy, hate and just pure happiness at the end. I could just feel the team’s emotions and that made the story come to life. Canyon Metcalfe added a whole new intensity to Leif’s character and Reaper, too. Iskra and Mercy were superheroes in my book and as always, I loved Mercy’s sense of humor. Cell drove me nuts, but then he drives the whole team nuts, so that sounds about right. This is not a read for the light-hearted as you never know who to trust and who will stick around until the end. However, the ending was sublime and well worth the ride. I loved it!

“God’s character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change.”

Powerful words that are a constant reminder of who God is in an ever-changing world. If you love action packed storylines, you’ll love this series. However, I highly recommend reading the entire series in order or you will probably be lost. It is well worth reading and now you don’t have to wait for the next book!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Soul Raging is nail-biting suspense right down to the last page. This is the conclusion of the series, and you’ll want to read Storm Rising and Kings Falling first.

This story picks up from Kings Falling, where Leif Metcalf seems to have turned to the dark side. Soul Raging continues to follow Leif as he struggles to fill in the missing gaps of his past, not to mention that his future is prophesized in the mysterious Book of Wars – and it’s pretty bleak. Leif leaves his team rather than put them in jeopardy.

The best part of this whole series has always been the characters. Readers will get a glimpse into Mercy’s past. Iskra is always a mysterious character and this novel much of her past comes back to haunt her. Canyon Metcalf makes an appearance to help save his brother. Cell always adds his whit to any situation. But the biggest plot twists come from trying to figure out who to trust. It tears the team (and the reader) apart. Could Leif really turn towards evil? Did Dru Illiescu set up Leif this whole time? Loyalties are tested and of course, no Ronie Kendig novel is complete without an epic showdown in the end!

If you started the series, you’ll be in for a thrilling and satisfying conclusion. If you haven’t started the series, you should get book one and be prepared to read all the way through until the very end. You won’t want to put it down.

Overall: 5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)
Suspense: 5 stars (Non-stop edge-of-your-seat suspense from start to finish)

My head is SPINNING!!!!

This series, like the Tox Files, is not a series to be read with lots of time in between books. There are so many threads, so many characters, and so many names to keep straight. While I love the complexity, it's also frustrating because I can feel so lost. My biggest challenge is all the different names for the same characters. I can't keep those straight.

But despite how confused I get, I loved this series. I love the stakes, the pressure, the people, the puzzles, the mystery. It's so cool! Kendig writes amazing stories that are complex, intense, and like nothing I've ever read before.

Honestly, the ending felt a little anti-climactic for how much went on in the rest of the book. I'm still quite sure who all was good and bad in the end. How some threads came together was incredible (one of those things with multiple names for the same person). I will definitely be re-reading Tox and these, with some sort of system for tracking things this time. I did make one connection and I was super proud of myself for it :)

The book is heavily dependent on previous titles in the series that it was difficult to follow. I have a hard time recommending it to anyone who has not read earlier books. I had not and was disappointed.

Is Leif Metcalfe a traitor? Hunting for answers he leaves his team in dark circumstances to find out the truth once and for all. The action is non-stop as Leif tries to stay ahead of team Reaper and Iskra Todorova and find answers to his past. This is the final book in The Book of the Wars series and does not disappoint. The final showdown between good and evil. Who will win? An epic conclusion to this series.

Well, Ronie Kendig delivers again.

Ronie stealthfully delivers truths like: “God’s character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change.” And “His character spoke of a higher road. And in the heat of the moment, in a split second of panic, she had let fear override and assume the worst.” Wow, isn’t it amazing how fear really can cause us to see things wrong, cause us to say things wrong, cause us to hurt others when—in the moment—we think we’re doing what’s best but in reality we aren’t seeing the truth. I love Ronie’s books because she’ll sweep you along in an epic story with fast-paced action scenes and engaging character but she’ll also give you something to chew on. And she gives it to you in the context of a situation—story—and never preaches it to you. That whole idea of show don’t tell. Yeah, Ronie Kendig is a master at that. I have so many more that I could quote but I’ll leave it to you to find your own that resonant with you. Just do me a favor and reply so I can reminisce and grow along with you!

This is a follow up series to the Tox files; I would not recommend this book as a stand alone read—just grab the entire series. It’s not a sit and get cozy book. This is a Jack Ryan, high-intensity read that zips you along and keeps you gripped within the storyline.

Thank you Netgalley and Bethany House for the ARC and the opportunity to leave a no-obligation, honest review of what I think of this read.
