This is the true definition of love. Sacrificing oneself to help someone else when they really need it. This steamy book is excellent! You can picture the characters so vividly, as the author does a great job providing details and a little extra here and there to help bring the story to life. If you enjoy a good cowboy book, this is the one to read!
This book is definitely a cross between a cowboy romance and suspense. It also has a lot of topics that might be difficult for some people to read (<spoiler>sex trafficking, forced prostitution, on page murder of a pregnant woman</spoiler>). It is a very exciting read - and includes a really really amazing, strong woman.
Skye grew up in and now helps to run a commune. While most people jump to assuming it was a cult - it isn't - it is just a commune where people choose to live a simpler life not based out of any religious fanaticism, but more a desire to be a true community. In recent years, a new leader has emerged in the community and is driving them away from their core values. Skye witnessed what was happening and took steps to stop it. In the midst of that, she witnesses the leader murder one of her friends. That sets Skye on the run to find some safety and figure out what to do. She runs out of gas near the McGrath ranch and begs for work there and some food. Declan McGrath takes one look at Skye (who passed out from hunger shortly after starting her request) and takes her in. For Declan, it is pretty clear it is love at first sight and he almost immediately starts working to help Skye find the best way to fix the mess.
Skye is really a stand-out character. She is incredibly smart and capable. She is also extremely hard-working. I appreciated so much that Declan never tries to take over - but supports Skye instead. Pretty much everything he does is to support her. Even in protecting her - he still doesn't try to control her or stop her.
A lot happens in a very short period of time in this book - pretty much the entirety of Skye and Declan falling for each other happens in a period of days. The final part of the book is really a tutorial in long distance relationships.
I really enjoyed this one - much more than the last one!
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
I just loved this story!!!! Sky Kennedy is one kick-ass heroine and Jennifer Ryan's plot was nail biting/edge of the seat sitting read!!
Declan McGrath is the perfect cowboy, as he helps and supports Sky as she navigates the fall out of running away from her close-knit community leaving her family behind. A very interesting story line and Jennifer Ryan always gives her heroines a spine of steel, courageous and shrewd. The couple make a formidable pair and the story a reading pleasure.
Received an ARC via Netgalley for an honest review!
Right out of the gate, Jennifer Ryan’s first book, Love of a Cowboy, in the McGraths Series hooked me and had me turning the pages rapidly as the story unfolded. The plot was intriguing with the cast of characters as unique as the story itself. The romance between Declan and Skye was touching and forceful, it’s what kept me pulled into the story...as well as the suspense and tension of the plot itself. I’m definitely looking forward to what’s to come next in the series.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
I enjoyed this book. It was the next book in a series regarding brothers. It was mysterious of what was going to happen next and it had happiness and a love story. It was a good book and I would recommend it.
Skye is running away from her intentional community having witnessed a murder. Some bad men have taken over bringing in sex trafficking and have invited in a militia group whose guns and bombs they are storing. She runs as far as Declan’s ranch. She is exhausted and starving but Declan sees something in her so he takes her in to help with the ranch. Will they be able to work with the FBI to save the day and build a life together?
The characters were credible and the plot was even plausible with lots of details that lent it credibility. It was not a bad book. The action and mystery were thrilling. Overall it was a well written story. However, I was never able to connect with the two min characters. I missed the spark that should have been there. But this may have just been my reading. I would be interested to hear other reviews.
I would not recommend this book to my patrons.
This was not what I was expecting and me tell you that I was pleasantly surprised.. We have some show stopping heart beating, arm chair gripping scenarious which will get you into the book from the very beginning. Again not what you thought you would get but must say glad I grabbed, and feel for Skye and the web of lies she discovers. But thru it all we have Declan, whooooeee. . Declan, is a hot cowboy who stops at nothing to protect Skye.
ARC received for review
Loved Declan and Skye. He fell quick and hard, and so did she. There was almost no angst in them getting together. I loved how Skye only had one previous partner, but did not act in the least little bit like a shy retiring almost virgin. Declan was right by her side through every bit of the danger and drama (and there was lots of it). What I didn't like was how long it took for her to get Sunrise to survive without her and her to get her butt back to Declan.
I can't wait to read his sister Trinity's HEA.
And can we have a spin off series with Agent Gunn and his brother.
LOVE OF A COWBOY by Jennifer Ryan. This tells the tale of Skye and Declan. Skye is running from her commune style of life after witnessing a murder and gathering evidence against the new leader of her peaceful community. Declan is a rancher - he's caring and kind with Skye, and oh, he's a bit sexy too! There is danger galore and suspense too. I enjoyed the pace of the story and the action scenes too. Honestly, the connection between Declan and Skye didn't quite work for me but, despite that, I still enjoyed this action filled tale. (received NetGalley ARC for honest review)
Love of a Cowboy
This book was a very intenese read, and I could not put it down. Skye ran for her life when she witnesses a terrible crime. She leaves the only life she has known to figure out what to do next. Skye finds herself in Montana at a ranch and is drawn to the onwer of the ranch. Declan the owner of the ranch takes Skye in with no questions asked and helps her get her life back on track. During all the commotion a stong friendship is formed and also a new love. Strong family ties keep Skye & Delcan going through their near death experiences in trying to do the right thing.
A wonderful suspense/mystery romance. The third in a series these characters caught my attention early in the story and held it all the way through. A few twists and turns in the suspense kept me guessing and held the intrigue. A good book that I wasn't ready to put down at the end.
It's another winner from Jennifer Ryan. Murder. Cowboys. A Cult. Romance. What more could you ask for?
Love of a Cowboy is the third book in the McGrath series and it finds Declan finding love with Skye, but not before a whole lot of trouble heads their way.
We first meet Skye as she watches cult leader Gabriel murder the girl that he impregnated. She runs, taking with her information about the cult, but doesn't know who she can trust. Ending up on the McGrath's ranch, she works for Declan and the romance between the two moves forward. But will the cult find her and get the information that she stole?
As I read the book, I wondered whether Caden or Trigger would appear as Skye was working with law enforcement. It's a page turner. If you like suspense and cowboys, you'll enjoy it. I'm looking forward to the next.
When Skye stumbles upon Gabriel murdering the young woman he impregnated, Lucy looked up at her and mouthed RUN. She grabbed articles from her office and ran.
She kept running, grabbing work when she could, living out of a beater car until out of gas and money,. Declan found her in his barn with apples in her shirt.. Not having had any food for days, she begged Declan to let her have them and any work she coukd do to get gas money to continue running.
When she fainted, he knew he had to help her. She claimed to know farming, so he gave her a chance. Blown away by her work ethic, he was happy to let her stay. She kept her secrets close to her vest, and he was shocked when they came out. Already attracted, he was deeply in love by the time he was able to help her get her past firmly in her past.
Ms. Ryan's tale of romance and intrigue is a nail biting page turner. I recommend it for those who intrigue with their romance. I almost stopped reading at the beginning, I had a hard time with the first scene, but am so very glad I kept going.
I requested and received a Net Galley ARC to peruse and offer my opinion freely.
Interesting and controversial topic takes center stage in LOVE OF A COWBOY by Jennifer Ryan. The entire idea of an autonomous community is a relatively uncommon one by today’s standards and yet there are many in existence. The problem isn’t that these communities are autonomous, self-sustaining, and self-governing. The problem is that unfortunately there will always be someone or a group of believers who feel the need for power. And when people in a community depend so entirely on each other it isn’t difficult for someone or some group to rise into a powerful position of authority. It all starts innocently. Looking for a simpler life and such.
LOVE OF A COWBOY is about a young woman becoming acutely uncomfortable with what she sees happening in the community she has grown up in. Skye is smart and given opportunities to work within the organization that few have. Skye is connected to those in power in Sunrise Fellowship. In fact the current leader has great plans for Skye. Unfortunately for him Skye has other ideas. There is an undercurrent of activity in Sunrise that has Skye scared for herself, her family and other young women of the community. It is that fear that has Skye make a very daring decision. It is that fear that makes Skye run away. Broke with no place to go and no resources at her hand.
Skye winds up at the ranch owned by Declan and his brother. Declan reacts instinctively and extends a helping hand to this bedraggled mess of a woman. Skye is incredibly independent but Declan sees beyond this façade and what he sees disturbs him greatly.
Skye isn’t looking for a handout although there is no denying she is in need of help. Problem is no matter what Skye chooses there is a great possibility that she will be putting someone in jeopardy. She is the target but the person on her tail isn’t above collateral damage.
Neither Skye nor Declan can ignore the danger lurking. Declan wants Skye to trust him and realize that she can rely on him. Skye does trust Declan – that is not the issue. The obstacle to leaning on this strong cowboy is putting him and his family in the same jeopardy as Skye and her family. How do you defend yourself from lies. How do you accept help from people who have become dear to you. So many issues and unfortunately no easy solution.
Perhaps Skye is going to have to listen to and follow her heart. Where ever that leads.
Jennifer Ryan really created a situation where peril lays just beyond the door. For most of LOVE OF A COWBOY you can’t help wonder just how Jennifer Ryan is going to fix this horrible mess. LOVE OF A COWBOY reintroduces some characters from the first book of The McGraths series which reminds us of the close family ties. No denying the brutality of the forces facing the characters in LOVE OF A COWBOY. The scenario is scary but plausible. Jennifer Ryan once again pens a page turning tale that keeps your attention from start to finish.
Picking up a book by Jennifer Ryan is a guarantee that nothing else will get done until I finish reading her story! This is the third book in the McGrath series but it can easily be read as a stand alone novel. Watching his brothers find love has made Declan realize just how much he wants what they have. But with a busy life on the ranch, Declan has no time to date let alone find love. But maybe, just maybe, love will find him when he least expects it. Skye, while she has dreams of love in her future, has much bigger issues on her mind. More like finding justice for her friend, saving the community she's grown up and stopping a dangerous situation.
Just the right balance of romance and suspense, this cowboy romance is exactly what I've come to expect from Jennifer Ryan. And exactly why I can't put the book down!
