I'm a big fan of Nicci French and this book is another reason why. Lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to more from this author.

This is a story of a girl named Bonnie who puts together a small band, and even though she has a man falls for the golden boy/ladies man Hayden, with all his uncovered secrets throughout the book, who is also in her band and winds up dead in a friend's house she house sitting for. There is another friend there to help get rid of the body. I enjoyed the bit of twist at the end. I didn't really see it coming. I did not enjoy the back and forth between past and present. I thought it was extremely unnecessary and tedious. I thought the book was good and definitely worth reading as I am a huge Nicci French fan and have enjoyed the books I've read by her thus far. This was a quick and easy read. I didn't really care for the band parts, but it was an interesting whodunnit and why?
Thank you so much to NetGalley for the advanced reader's copy for an honest review.

I think that I've read everything that Nicci French has written, the vast majority of their books are phenomenal thrillers, a subset border on silly and cross over into unbelievable. I am sorry to say that this book was the latter. I did enjoy reading this but I guessed the ending early on. Almost all of French's books feature a flawed female protagonist, she is usually extremely driven, somewhat asocial, and often self-sabotaging. The main character here is no different, except that is too self-sabotaging. To the point that you wonder who on earth would behave in such a way. I don't believe she would want to be friends with (I think her name was) Sonja, I don't think she would rip her apartment to pieces and live in an absolute mess, why would she even agree to play in a band at her friends wedding? And then who would keep going with such a monumental task when rehearsals are going so terribly and everything else is falling to pieces? Well written but too silly for me.

I love the twists and turns of the book. It keeps you on your toes and every time I thought I knew for sure what happened I was shocked once again.
At times the book feels to drag on a little to long with unnecessary details. I was also frustrated with the beginning of the book. The main character walks in on a murder. Instead of calling the police she decided to cover up someone else's crime. I wish that the author found another way to begin the twisting tale.

My first Niicci French book. Full of twists, I was certain I knew "who done it", but I was completely wrong. So, good on the author for keeping me guessing!
I like the book, but it seemed a little silly that when you stumble on a dead body, instead of calling the cops, you try to figure out how to cover up a crime you didnt commit.
Also, I think it kind of dragged on a bit too long.
For those reasons I gave it 4 stars. Other than that the book was good!

This book wasn’t my cup of tea
I give every book 50 pages and I couldn’t do it
Doesn’t mean its not for you. It’s just not for me

This is a re-release of Complicit from 2009. Who is more dangerous? An enemy? A friend? Or a lover? Bonnie Graham finds her boyfriend dead lying in a pool of blood. What happened? What will she do? Who killed him? Everyone tells lies to the police. Is anyone prepared to tell the truth to uncover a murderer?
I liked this book a lot and had a hard time putting it down. The story switched between The Before and The After of The Murder. The characters were believable. The ending was a surprise. I loved all the twists and turns. I would recommend this book to those who love mystery thrillers. I have read all of their Frieda Klein books but will catch up on their earlier books. I would like to thank NetGalley and William Morrow Paperbacks for a free copy for an honest review.

I love Nicci French so I was excited to read this newest novel. Suspense is the perfect descriptor for this book. I felt like it came to a satisfying close, which does not happen often in this genre. Would definitely recommend for someone who is looking for a suspenseful read!

Amazing story. Well developed characters that are in a twisted engrossing thriller. Highly recommended. Super suspense that comes to a satisfying end! Highly recommended . A true roller coaster thrill ride

This book was wild. I don’t think I realized initially that it was based in America, WHICH IS FINE, but sometimes the subtle language differences frustrate me. I thought this book was a little difficult to follow. The storyline was good but it was slow moving. I appreciate a good back and forth but it was over the top. There were so many details that you needed to pay attention to for the ending to make sense. I didn’t enjoy the book it. There was just too much going on.

Bonnie Graham is asked to put a band together for a friends wedding. She creates an unlikely group. When tragedy strikes we don’t know who the murderer could be. The chapters flip to before and after. I thought it was suspenseful and enjoyed it. The last chapter has me wondering what it meant. All in all a good read. I would definitely read more of the authors books. Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and author for giving me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

It’s something different from my usual read however it was the refresh I needed during my thriller/suspense phase

I have enjoyed this author's previous books but just couldn't stick with this one despite many tries. The characters didn't engage me, and I never overcame the impression of the grisly beginning where two young women are trying to dispose of a blood-soaked body. I appreciate the opportunity to read it and I'm sorry I couldn't finish it. Her other readers will no doubt find it very worthwhile.

This book is not what I expected...I couldn’t put it down. All the characters are imperfect and you never know what to expect from one moment to the next. Lots of twists and turns which keeps you on your toes. Thank you @netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I love a book that makes me dislike the characters, weird but that's me. The Other Side of the Door really had that effect. Some major psychological suspense at play here. I was on the edge of my seat and was more confident in my guess of the ending than I should have been. This kept me on my toes. French is a standup author, I want to read more of her work.

This is another book that got my attention in the very beginning and the alternating before and after chapters will keep you guessing constantly. You assume one thing right away and as the story goes on you realize your assumption is more than likely wrong. So, what really happened? How did that dead body get on the floor? Who did it? Nicci French gives nothing away until the end and keeps you guessing and turning the pages. This is a cleverly thought-out book that I enjoyed. I am giving it 4 stars because I didn't really understand the ending. That last chapter threw me for a loop. I felt there should have been a little more added to get a better understand; unless Nicci wanted us to draw our own conclusion. Either way, I've enjoyed other books by Nicci French and this novel is going on that list as well. Thank you NetGalley for lending me this book to read.

I love this writer . The way she writes her books are amazing . Very easy to understand . The plot is always amazing and for sure blow your mind . This book hooked me from the beginning the plot is amazing the characters well explained . I strongly Recommend this book .

DNF at 20%. I didn’t connect or like any of the characters. Here’s to hoping my next NetGalley read is better. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

The Other Side of the Door by Nicci French
This novel is a compelling combination of psychological suspense and murder mystery.
In chapter one, the reader is immediately engaged in the story when Bonnie, the narrator, finds her lover’s body lying dead in a pool of blood in her friend’s London flat. Then the mystery unfolds, as Bonnie tries to get rid of the body and find the killer.
Told in a before and after alternating chapter style, which is a writing construct I like, the story progresses nicely as the reader is introduced to the entire cast of characters. Bonnie, a music teacher, has cobbled together a group of amateur musicians to play at her friend’s wedding. Like layers of an onion, the personalities and secrets of each band member are revealed. Their lives are complicated and add to the depth of the narrative. All the characters, including Bonnie, are flawed and were unlikable to me.
In spite of that, I found the story to be clever and well told, with plenty of twists and an ending that is indeed gripping. This is another solid hit for British author Nicci French.
Thank you to HarperCollinsPublishers/William Morrow and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Nicci French is on a roll! The duo has two forthcoming books, and they are both excellent. The Other Side of the Door tells the story of Bonnie Graham, music teacher and casual musician, recently broken up from her long term boyfriend, Amos, and suddenly socially pressured into putting together a band for her college friend's wedding. What was supposed to be a summer of repairs on her new flat turns into an intense fling with sulky, handsome Hayden, a musician who is a friend of a friend and joins the group's rehearsals. Hayden is a free spirit who charms the women, annoys the men, and occupies a position of hero for one of Bonnie's former students who's in the band, He charms Bonnie, too; although she's not one to fall for that sort of thing and seems poised to begin a relationship with Neal, another musician who is clearly besotted with her. Instead, she somehow falls under Hayden's spell, drifting into his orbit and giving way to a drunken summer of lazing about, playing music ... and getting hit by Hayden when he loses his temper.
The book alternates chapters into "Before" and "After," the "Before" bit being how the book opens: with Bonnie, sitting in her friend Liza's apartment, which Hayden has been crashing in, as he doesn't believe in being tied down. On the floor is Hayden, with a fatal head wound and blood on the carpet; Bonnie has bruises on her neck. What happened is unclear, but what is clear is that Bonnie needs someone to help her clean up this mess. She chooses to call Sonia, a fellow teacher and singer in the band. Sonia is level headed and will know what to do ...
The book rollicks back and forth until we catch up to the breaking point where the unthinkable happens. The authors throw a couple of pretty good twists in, rendering it reasonably difficult to solve the "whodunit?" but not making the reader feel like the twists are a cheap shot or a plot rescue. French has a good feel for dialog and relationships, and her characters, for the most part, speak the way human beings actually speak, something you don't always get in a good thriller. Ultimately, the denouement is a little thin, but overall, this is an excellent thriller that keeps the pages turning despite a slightly slow start.
