First pages got me intrigued and I thought it will be one of those books I will just read in one sitting, craving to find out what is actually happening. I didn’t manage to do that but still, I was in for a jaw dropping hell of a ride.
You know when something is just too good to be true? That’s how I felt about some of the characters and with every page I read,I found myself thinking: “Oh no! There’s definitely something wrong with them. They can’t be that perfect!” And I was right but I was left speechless at just how bad they were (don’t want to spoil it for you)
I found myself quite impatient while reading. Wanting to skip some parts but not because I didn’t enjoy it. On the contrary! I was just so damn curious about the whole story that I literally couldn’t wait to discover the back of house entanglements of this masterfully built plot.
As I finished and all was revealed, I was shocked. I was not expecting such a mental twist. I just said out loud: WHAT ON EARTH?!”
Zoe fell and banged her head on the day of her wedding. She can't recall what had happened prior to the fall. Everything was hazy.
Ten years later, Zoe and Toby are blissfully happy in love. They are organising an anniversary party to celebrate. The only thing spoiling the party is Zoe's sister, Dina, is still missing. Zoe's friends are acting weird around her but she doesn't know the reason why.
The wife is a domestic thriller and its told in the then and now format. This is another well written book with some wicked twists. I don't want to say too much about the plotline as I would spoil it for potential readers. The pace flows smoothly. I could not fathom out where this story was going so I had to keep reading to find out. WOW! I never saw that ending coming. It took me completely by surprise. Please don't make us wait too long for your next book.
I would like to thank #NetGalley, #Bookouture and the author #ShaliniBoland for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Wife’ by Shalini Boland in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Zoe faints in her hotel room on her wedding day to Toby, hitting her head on a table and all memory of what happened erased from her mind. After ten years of being happily married Zoe is organising a party at the same hotel to celebrate their anniversary but she worries that it might not go ahead as her sister-in-law and friends are ignoring her and she catches Toby lying to her. As the date of the party gets closer the memories start to return but does Zoe really want to know what happened on her wedding day?
Any novel written by Shalini Boland is going to be unmissable and ‘The Wife’ is no exception. It’s a gripping psychological thriller that has a strong plot, plausible characters, bucketloads of suspense, drama, and heart-stopping twists and turns, with an unbelievably explosive ending that’s left me open-mouthed with shock. I can wholeheartedly recommend this thriller that’s had me enthralled from the first page through to the last.
You know when you pick up a book by Shalini Boland that you are in for a rollercoaster ride!
Since Zoe passed out on her wedding day, she has always had a niggling feeling that she had forgotten something. 10 years later, while planning her anniversary party, she finally remembers what it was!
This was a quick, easy read with lots of surprises and twists and I definitely recommend it!
Thank you for the advanced read of this book!
What a thriller!!!!
I really was hooked on this book, started off a little slow, but wow....did it soon pick up pace, could not put it down! The plot just gets thicker and thicker and gets you gripped!
The book centres around Zoe and is told in two different time zones....then and now.
It begins with Zoe’s wedding day to Toby, on the morning of the wedding she faints and has no recollection of why it happened and what actually happened just before she collapsed, never the less, she puts on a brave face and marries the love of her life! All seems blissfully happy - she goes on to have two children and has married into the family she has always craved.
The ‘now’ part of the book sees Zoe about to celebrate her 10th wedding anniversary and is throwing a lavish party at her wedding venue. On the lead up to the event, things start to go wrong - her husband lies to her, her friends become distant and someone tried to jeopardise her career!
I really felt like I was on a journey with Zoe to find out why things were going wrong and what actually did cause her to faint on her wedding day.
This book has plenty of twists and turns, and a huge one you really don’t see coming!
10/10 read for me and cannot wait to explore more from this author!
My first Shalini Boland book, and i am glad to say that I enjoyed it.
Ten years ago, on her wedding day, Zoe fell and hit her head. She,however, has no memory of that and ever since that day she felt that something bad must have happened in the time she can't remember. In the present, Zoe and her husband Toby are having an anniversary party and things start to get weird as people around behave strangely and lost memories start to come back
This book is really short and I read in just a couple of hours, which is great when you are in a reading slump. I felt that the first half of the book was a bit boring. People around Zoe were being horrible to her and she just ate it up. I feel like she actually loved being miserable and mistreated, and I prefer my heroines to be feisty. The second half picked up speed and was way more interesting to read. But the whodunit was quite predictable, mostly due to the lack of suspects I guess. It wasn't my favorite thriller I've ever read, but I definitely enjoyed my time reading it.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great read! This book will grab & hold you & if you love twists & surprises, then this book is for you😊. It’s rare that a book has this many surprises yet still seems plausible but Shalini Boland knows her stuff!!
On her wedding day Zoe fainted and she's always felt that something happened beforehand but her mind has blocked it out, now she and Toby have been married 10 years, have two beautiful children and to celebrate their anniversary they are holding a party in the same hotel where they got married, but in the lead up to the celebrations Zoe feels that people are acting strangely around her, and she's becoming increasingly certain that she is being lied to, but does she really want to know the truth and risk it ruining the life she's built with her family?
This latest novel by this author is told across two timelines; Then and Now and is narrated by Zoe, once again Boland has created authentic characters who are very likeable (well most of them anyway) and relatable. The story is fast paced, tense and full of suspense, with a very well crafted plot and a wicked twist! This author knows exactly how to reel her readers in, getting them hooked from the first page and keeping them guessing throughout, she is one of my go to authors where I don't need to read the blurb, but I still know I'm going to get a cracking read and once again she did not disappoint, it was so good I read it in less than 24 hours. I highly recommend this one and think it's safe to say that I've been well and truly Bookoutured again.
I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.
As I mention in every Shalini Boland review, I love her books! This one was no different - SO good, SO unexpected! Such a thriller, I was on the edge of my seat the whole and still shocked when it was over. Highly recommend!
I was excited for this book as the premise sounded brilliant and something I would enjoy, however it missed the mark for me.
I couldn't warm to the character of Zoe and I felt like there were too many questions / secrets thrown at you all at once and all Zoe did was become increasingly concerned but wouldn't confront anyone.
A lot of the chapters dragged with information I didn't think was needed to progress the story, such as the part with Cassie at the hairdressers.
At the end once Zoe remembers exactly what happened that night, it felt more like the thriller I was expecting, but again felt a little too exaggerated for me.
The epilogue was brilliant though and not something I expected at all!
Great thriller! The Wife, by Shalini Boland, will lead you down a rabbit hole. When you think you have it figured out...pivot! Rich, believable characters drive a dark, atmospheric well written story.
Amazing! Thrilling! I could not put this book down and I was HOOKED from the first page!!
Seriously, if you have not had your eyes on this gripping, addictive thriller then you must add it to your TBR right now! You will devour this book and fly through the racing chapters as you unveil all the juicy, dark, twisty details of just what exactly is going on as the plot unfolds
The book is told from the pov of Zoe and follows her married life to Toby and their two young children. When Zoe and Toby got married 10 years ago Zoe ended up fainting and no memory of what happened to make her faint. Determined to go on with her wedding, even though she was dizzy and had a bump from her fall, she ended up walking down the aisle and marrying the handsome love of her life, Toby. Zoe has a wonderful life with her husband and children, and she gets along brilliantly with her mother and father-in-law.
I loved Zoe’s character and enjoyed reading from her pov. She was an interesting character and I liked hearing about her life and her views on everything. Like Zoe, I too was curious to know what exactly happened on her wedding day all those years ago that made her faint and what happened in those moments where she has lost her memory. I felt so bad for her leading up to her anniversary celebrations and everything that was seeming to go wrong – her husband lying to her, one of her good friends ignoring her, and someone spreading rumours about her. I was eager to get some answers along with Zoe and I enjoyed all the racing and edgy twists and turns this book has. Several shocking revelations and twists that you will not see coming, and that whopper of a twist at the end!?! I LOVED it!!
All of the stars for this book! I cannot wait to see what the author comes out with next!
'Totally gripping' it wasn't. A nice read but it left me with some questions. Why wait ten years before trying to find out what happened? And why o why is Zoe not able to come up for herself and show the people that treat her so terrible that they are in the wrong? Zoe is not very organized, does a lot of frenzied running around and has no clue whatsoever what's realling happening around her.
It was not very hard to see what was going to happen but I must admit that I liked the epilogue a lot.
Thanks to Netgalley for this digital review copy.
Excellent book, full of mystery and suspense. This one is definitely for the thriller fans. I would definitely recommend it.
The Wife by Shalini Boland is a psychological thriller that had me glued to the book! The story revolves around Zoe, a woman with the perfect life. Her husband Toby dotes on her and the two children. They live in the perfect place for them and Zoe has the job she was always happy in. They are coming up to their tenth wedding anniversary and have decided to have a party at the same place they got married. As their party comes closer, things begin to start unravelling,Toby is caught out in a lie about where he has been by Zoe. Her best friend has started acting strangely towards her and stories that are untrue begin to reach Zoe's ears. All of this happens along side her seeing her younger sister who has been missing for way too long. Zoe is unbalanced and really worried by all these things and is determined to find out what's really going on.The only trouble is, will she regret knowing the truth, or is it the truth that sets you free?
I read this book over two days, I just couldn't put it down. The story was a well paced one that kept on bringing the suspense at every turn. The further I got into the story the more I needed to know! Zoe started as the woman everybody wants to be. I really think, Shalini, created a great set of characters, Zoe being the best for me. She oozed confidence in the beginning, even when she had a slight frisson of doubt. Then as the scenes unfolded Zoe started to fall apart, bit by bit, until she had no clue what day it was, never mind anyrhing else. There are a few characters that I wasn't keen on from the off and one which really shocked me! I won't go any further with that, if you want to find out just read it
The Wife is one of them stories that you won't want to stop reading, the twists and turns are an intrinsic part of the story and then we have the grand final twist! A twist that I did not see coming that took my breath away! Another brilliant book from Shalini Boland, as always.
Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC to write this review today.
4.5 stars for me ! Okay I will round up to 5 just because of the ending!
The ending in this book is everything !!
The Wife draws you in slowly as your learn that Zoe fainted on her wedding day and has no memory of the day . Zoe and Toby are about to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
Memories. Are they coming back?
Do you really want to know the truth?
Twists and turns are thrown your way but I did not expect that ending!
You won't want to put it down; read it in a day!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a twisted read!
Nothing is as it seems in this book, really. Just as soon as you think you have it figured out, it hits you from the left field. I enjoyed this book so much, I finished it in one sitting. Highly recommended!

This was a brilliant domestic psychological thriller which I couldn't put down and read practically in one sitting. If you like twisty thrillers then you will enjoy this. I enjoyed the story and the plot and the characters were believable and I was so hooked I had to keep turning the pages till had finished. This is my first book by this author but I will definitely be reading more
This was a great book. I didn’t see half of it coming and that’s always a plus! I couldn’t wait for it all to come together. That ending though-wow!!!
When Zoe faints and hits her head on her wedding day all she can think about is her fairytale wedding not happening. She puts aside the fact that she can’t remember what happened and walks down the aisle to say I do. Ten years and two kids later she’s planning a celebration at the same venue they were married at. When her sister-in-law suddenly starts ignoring her before the party she starts to get anxious. Then she thinks sees her sister, who disappeared almost ten years ago, twice. The night of the party is definitely one she won’t forget!
This is the first of Shalini Boland’s books that I’ve read and it didn’t disappoint. From the gripping beginning to the unexpected twist at the end it had me on the edge of the seat, turning the pages. An intriguing, fast-paced read. I highly recommend it.
