A rollercoaster ride of a book but a fun and a gripping read, really enjoyed this one and highly recommend to all those who love this genre.
Great fantasy read that left me wanting more. The world was unique compared to other Fantasy stories. The mix between fantasy elements and science fiction (technology) was subtle but poweful in moving the story forward

I just didn`t get into it? i guess is the right word? Seven seemed alright, but i didn`t feel like she was much of a character sadly, what seemed important was the visions she became to have and it kind of became all her. Plus all the running, gunshots and enchanted and untamed...I get that she tried to find her familiy and all, but i did not feel like she was interesting enough to keep me entertained or wanting to know how it ended. It was also alot of characters that i felt came in and out, and made ita bit confusing and boring.
This was a wild ride I am still trying to understand, what was the cause or reason for them becoming the untamed ones and the enhanced ones, it was baffling. What happened? was it a war of machines against humans, what?. They were running from what and to what, a strange story indeed.
Ugh. I want to read this so badly, But I didn't know it's part of a long series. If the series was on KU, I would gladly try them and review them. But, I can't afford to buy the whole series. And, I don't want to read book 1 if I can't read the whole series.
I love dystopian books and have heard great things about this series.
I really enjoyed this book was so easy to get into. Its was fast paced book and kept me on the edge of my seat.
An interesting take on the classic YA dystopia novel. The characters are interesting and engaging. However, I felt that the world building needed to be padded out more, particularly in the beginning as I found it difficult to get into. Good writing and an intriguing start to the series.
Promising series set in a dystopian world. Complex characters with a great female lead who is both strong willed and conflicted. Look forward to more in this series
There are a lot of dystopian YA novels out there. A lot of them are decent, unique stories, but some are very samey. This was, thankfully, in the former category in my opinion.
It's set in a world where 'addiction' to augmenters is the norm; using these turns you into an Enhanced or Chosen One. The augmenters can do almost anything - there are specific ones for calmness, strength, speed, even for altering your height and physical appearance. Taking just one augmenter also changes the appearance of your eyes; the entire eyeball becomes a mirrored silver surface, with no clear pupil or iris.
According to the Untamed (the people resisting Enhancement) this new way of life destroys your humanity. You can't feel any negative emotions - it's not right. So these small groups of Untamed desperately try to avoid detection and ultimately conversion, raiding Enhanced cities for necessities.
There are several rules the Untamed follow, with one of the most important ones being *don't get converted*. If this happens, it's pretty much impossible to go back. You become dependent on augmenters, addicted.
I won't describe too much more of the plot now. Basically, Seven, the protagonist, is turned. But she's rescued, and thus struggles with her newfound love of augmenters. Does she really want to remain untamed? Or is the Enhanced life truly better?
There are also Seers in this book - Untamed who can visit the Dream Land to receive warnings from the gods, goddesses and spirits.
Seven is hunted by the Enhanced. They want her, bad. Apparently, she's important, but she doesn't know why. Her and her friends face numerous difficulties and problems while trying to keep her safe.
Like I said before, this is different. I've not read anything particularly like this before. However, there are some cliches, and I was not fond of the way Seven and Corin's relationship 'developed' at all. I use the word developed very loosely; their attitudes toward each other changed very suddenly, with little character development. I know the whole hate-turned-love thing is popular, but I wasn't overly impressed with how it was written here.
I also found it a bit difficult to connect with Seven emotionally, or even sense her emotions a lot of the time. She was weirdly detached. She didn't seem to really care about much at all.
Despite the negatives above, I did find myself enjoying reading this. Yes, there were some technical problems and little issues, but it was still a good read. 3.5 stars!
*Note: I also read the second book in the series, which I think I enjoyed more!
Untamed was a very solid debut novel (I believe the series is complete) for those who enjoy YA dystopian scifi/fantasy. The story was action packed from the very start and I found myself reading through it very quickly, as it's quite a page-turner. Seven's internal back-and-forth was frustrating at times, but I won't judge too harshly on that as she's only 17 in the book and goes through some very dark experiences. This first book in the series was pretty predictable, though the author still managed to keep me engaged, so I hope there are more unanticipated twists in next books.
this was a strong start to a series, I really liked the characters and the introduction to the world these characters lived in, I was excited to read the next book in the series.
How far down the rabbit hole do you want to go? One of the strangest and most original books I have ever read. I couldn't tell when events were really happening and when it was "dream world" both seemed highly unlikely and hard to grasp. Very science fiction/fantasy. Somewhat of a cliffhanger ending. Book 2 picks up right at the end of book 1.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Seven is untamed and is always on the run from the enhanced, until one day a raid goes wrong and she is captured. She now has to decide which side is the right side and begins to question everything she knows. An incredible dystopian tale that had me hooked from start to finish. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
Untamed by Madeline Dyer is the first in The Untamed series. It is a fantastically gripping young adult, dystopian novel which pulled me in from the first page and had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I love dystopian novels and this didn't disapoint, I couldn't put it down.
The story follows 17 year old Seven, one of the last Untamed humans left in the world, the Earth's inhabitants now Enhanced, addicted to vials of Enhancers in order to be perfect, to become a "Chosen one".
Seven and the remaining Untamed humans must live their lives hidden from the Enhanced, following a strict set of rules to keep them all safe from becoming captured and forcibly Enhanced, because once you are Enhanced their is no going back.
Following a failed raid attempt to gather supplies from a nearby Enhanced city, Seven is captured and forced to become one of the Chosen ones, to be Enhanced.
Seven soon learns that she is a powerful seer and must resist the temptation of the Enhancers and escape the clutches of Raleigh and the other Enhanced, as she and she alone holds the fate of the Untamed.
I really enjoyed reading this book, so much so that I have already started reading book two in the series. I have given Untamed 5 stars and definitely recommend it to others.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this fantastic book
In a world where being "Untamed" is becoming extinct and to become an "Enchanted one" or a "Chosen one" is becoming more prevalent, there's a prophesy stating that there is one who will save or end humanity. This "One" will be the strongest Seer in history and will save all the Untamed or everyone will become Enchanted. To be wild and free (Untamed) or addicted to augmenters and a slave to the addiction (Enchanted).
Seven Sarr is the seventh child of the Sarr family & will save her people, either way...the war between Untamed & Enchanted will end because of her.
"Untamed" is a really great read & something that people of any age can enjoy. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys this genre.
Untamed follows Seven after she is kidnapped by the enemy and forced to take a chemical to enhance herself, after escaping she is forced to battle her addiction to the chemical whilst surviving an apocalyptic world.
I actually liked the concept of the story, it was interesting and a quick fast paced read. I thought that the characters especially the main character were well written and the relationships between these characters were developed well too. However, the book does focus too much on Seven’s inner thoughts and the action in the book, it was either pages of her conflicting thoughts or just action scenes. This would not have been that bad but everything else was lacking, there was no world building and so I was confused on what the spirits were and I wanted more information on the Enhanced. The plot is also very repetitive and quite bland – the focus is on a group of people surviving and so nothing much interesting happens and the plot twists were predictable.
Although I did like Seven, at the start she kept comparing herself to the other women in the group which was annoying and she is described as being powerful and yet that part of her is not really developed on. I did not mind the romance in the book, it is slow burn until the ending when there is a out of character admission of feelings which I thought was weird and a bit awkward.
I did still find the book was an enjoyable read however I do not think I would read the rest of the series.
2/5
I haven’t read anything dystopian this year or in awhile before the outbreak of COVID so it’s a refreshing read for me to come back to this genre, I’m so glad I did, this felt totally unique and fresh , something quite different from a lot of the dystopian books out there. I loved the author’s writing style, so easy to jump into, it feels smooth and flowing (if that makes any sense at all) I loved the journey 7 goes on and she really is run through the mill. It’s a wonderful read and I cannot it to jump into the sequel

Untamed by Madleline Dyer was a unique perspective on a dystopian story. The characters were likable and the story moved at a fast pace. I enjoyed the first installment in the "Untamed" series.
In Seven's world there are two types of humans; Enhanced and Untamed. Seven is Untamed. The Enhanced hunt the Untamed in an effort to convert them, feeding the Untamed concoctions to enhance any feature one could imagine making them into "perfect" humans. The Untamed view the Enhanced as human robots with no emotions or thoughts of their own. They fight hard to hold onto what little is left of a normal humanity. So many Untamed have been captured and converted. A raid on Seven's home village has forced her and a small group to go on the run. During the raid, Seven learns that she is a powerful Seer. Will her new skills help to save all this is left of humankind?
There’s a war for humanity raging: The Enhanced vs the Untamed. Seven is an Untamed and plays an integral part within this war. Her and her crew must fight to stay alive as no where is safe from the The Enhanced. They are powerful and perfect and they have their eyes on Seven.
This was a incredibly enjoyable read! I’m a sucker for dystopian novels and this one did not disappoint! I found myself lost in this world. It was fast paced and kept me wanting more and more. (Which is great because it is a series!) I loved the writing style. Very descriptive and pulled me right in. There are some twists and turns and just a little bit of romance. I am excited to dive into book 2. I definitely recommend Untamed!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book!
I really enjoyed this book. I was not sure at first if I would like it because I do not read dystopian books that often. This book not only held my interest but has me rethinking my former position on dystopian books. There was so much to this novel. Yet the storyline was easy to follow. Seven is one tough young woman. She is a seer as well as addicted to augmentation. She is so powerful that she is able to resist the call of the augmentors and keep true to her “untamed” self. She also learns that this world is full betrayal and death, even with friends and family. I am so looking forward to continuing to read this series.
