I was immediately intrigued by this book because of it’s title. Dracula is my favorite book and I had just finished the Historian, another book that meshes the history of Romania into it’s otherwise fictitious story.
I love how this book meshed traditions of Romania, it’s culture and folklore with recipes from the country. It helped give a sense of the story behind the country’s food. I also enjoyed that each recipe had the Romanian name with it’s English translation and tidbits about the recipe and where it originated.
The photos are gorgeous in this book and make me want to travel to Romania as soon as possible so I can see everything in person and the recipes were interesting to go through and I definitely found a few I can’t wait to try out for myself. The drinks were my favorite section - the sour cherries recipe looks amazing and I love how another recipe suggested using it for a boozy spin on the original version.
One of the best most unexpected food trips I ever went on was to Romania. We went in search of Dracula and instead we found 20 different ways to eat polenta. When I saw the title of this book I knew I had to read it. It has a good introduction to the country followed by tantalizing recipes. I can't wait to try them!
Really interesting to dig a little into Romanian culture and history - I admit I knew little about it! Some lovely photos of stunning landscapes, interesting stories, and some recipes I definitely want to try
I really liked From Dill to Dracula. It has plenty of interesting recipes and it also tells about folklore, traditions and Vlad the Impaler. There's also some really amazing photographs in this book. That said, one of the recipes I'd love to try is the Piersici (peach cookies).
I admit when I think of Romania, I thunk of dark, dank castles and heavy, gray skies. I was curious to read this book, to learn about another side of Romania. The photographs in this book depict a beautiful, lush country, full of sunshine, flowers and beautiful gardens and friendly and welcoming people. The recipes are easy to replicate and look delicious.
I usually just skim through cookbooks but this one I read in it’s entirety. I enjoyed the mix of personal stories, folklore, history, and photos. And it’s nice to have full color photos of all of the recipes- especially for an unfamiliar cuisine. I can’t comment on the rest of the recipes but the cucumber salad is really good.
What a fantastic cookbook! I loved the rich photos and illustrations that accompanied the rich historic background given in the book. There were so many recipes with pictures and details that looked delightful to try! Each page was surprising and informative as well as beatiful. I want to make some of the meals for sure and was happy to learn of the area and what it looks like. Delightful book.
What an interesting cookbook! From dill to Dracula, the author takes a familiar look at Romania and family roots through a brief history and some delicious looking recipes. I’m not at all familiar with Romanian food but I was curious and thankful to have a look.
What did I like? This is a curious cookbook with a cute look at the history with Dracula, and some beautiful Romania landscape pictures. I absolutely loved the recipes, and the gorgeous food pictures. From the breads to the beautiful soups, and then mouthwatering drinks. Curious about Romania and its roots, then this is a fun read.
Would I recommend or buy? This cookbook offered something different. Not only does it give you a bit of history and some gorgeous pictures but jaw dropping recipes, and all of them have lovely pictures. I really enjoyed it and I would love a copy. Looking for something different then have a go at this cookbook filled with delicious looking Romanian cuisine.
I received a copy to read and offer an opinion. This book is a gem! Five stars for some unique qualities and some gorgeous pictures of Romania.
A little history, a little travel, a little mythology and some truly stunning Mouth watering traditional recipes. Beautiful photography.
I love to cook and especially enjoy cooking something different to the norm. Unfortunately i am unable to install Netgalley shelf on my ipad, nor as a pdf on my laptop. Will keep trying.
Having been to Romania twice and eaten their delicious food, I was excited to see this cookbook come across my way. All the favorites are in this book. It covers such a wide range of Romanian cuisine. There’s something for everyone. The papanasi are amazing! Don’t miss that recipe. Mici are good too. I also love the cultural and language elements throughout the book. I feel like I know Romania so much better after reading this. Oh and the pictures!! There are so many pictures. It’s like going on a trip without leaving my home. This is an excellent book. I love it.
I received a digital copy from netgalley. This has in no way influenced my review. All thoughts are my own.
A rich and detailed book with tons of information about Romania. There is a little bit of history, a little folklore and lots of great recipes. The photos are stunning, bright and colourful and make you want to hop on a plane right away. Of the various sections the dessert one was definitely the most intriguing, and there are tons of delicious ideas to try. Aside from food, there are also cocktail and drink recipes to follow. Everything is straightforward and explained well. Basically everything you could want from a cookbook.
