This book is so so boring. Nothing really happens and certainly wasn’t very thrilling.
In a positive note, I will say the ending was unexpected
I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
Two sisters who have grown apart due to age and circumstances find themselves depending on each other when trouble from their past threatens both of them.
Sisters, Zoe and Alice, haven't really seen each other since Zoes sudden move seven years ago. Alice has made attempts, but Zoe seems too busy living the perfect life to even pick up the phone.
But Zoes life is far from perfect. She is running from her past, with secrets she can't confide in Alice. One mistake, seven years ago, changed her life.
The Perfect Sister starts off slow but builds to a thriller. Alice and Zoe's relationship is the main focus throughout the beginning of the story. The story tells how different the sister's lives really are.
The thriller part of the story reveals itself mid book. Things start to get really good. The pace picks up as an investigation starts and reveals secrets. The writer did an awesome job with the timeline and buildup, as well as leaving tidbits to pick up for the mystery.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book and give my honest opinion. I hope other readers will enjoy this book as well.
Sisters Holly and Alice used to be inseparable, Alice the older sister treated Holly like her own little doll. Growing up she sacrificed to make sure Holly had opportunities. Now, years later, the sisters have grown apart and Holly and her husband have moved from their Dublin home. Alice lives her quiet life, with her young daughter, and tries to keep her soon-to-be ex-husband Ronan at bay. Around the time she hears an innocuous story about an apartment demolition that has re-opened a cold case she meets a charming man named Damien. Alice doesn't think about the news story again until investigators are looking for Holly. Holly, the sister who led a seemingly charmed life, cannot be involved in anything illegal...much less lethal, right? When Alice can't reach Holly she is forced to delve into the past and uncover some harsh, startling truths that may place everyone in danger. To find out what happens pick up Zoe Miller's latest release, The Perfect Sister.
The Perfect Sister is a nicely written mystery that, at times, was a little long and alternated between narrators back and forth a little frenetically. With plenty of twists and red herrings, fans of psychological mysteries will enjoy this latest release.
I really wanted to enjoy this one as I love books that explore the sister relationship however I struggled with this one and found it disjointed. I gave up half way through
Loved this one! So easy to read and lots of twists and turns along the way. Definitely a quick read and one I recommend.
An ok read though I felt it took until half way through to get going. It was only in the second half of the book that the storyline came to life. I found the sisters rather unlike able too as Holly was completely spoilt and Alice was walked all over by her which I found to be annoying! I also found it far fetched in places which ruined it a bit for me
I received a copy of the book from Netgalley to review. Thank you for the opportunity.
A strange and disjointed book. I didn't really enjoy this book as there were multiple errors in the book which made it difficult to read. The story was very slow and failed to draw the reader in.
An OK read.
I love when the sister relationship is at the forefront. As an older sister, I can totally relate to the situations presented in the book. Such a twist at the end as well, totally took me by surprise! Loved it.
A slow-burn story that explored the relationship between two sisters, Holly and Alice when one of them had disappeared. There were many characters whose lives were interlinked. The mystery factor came in midway through the story. The pace picked up slightly when the investigation started. Overall, it was a good read, could have been better.
The Perfect Sister by Zoe Miller was a cracking read for me.
There is 6 years between Alice and Holly. They are very close but then their dad walks out on them and their mum and they gradually grow apart following years of resentment. Much later, Alice knows that her sister is keeping secrets, and then she gets a knock at her front door about a matter regarding Holly...
I found this book extremely intriguing and compelling although it was a little slow to get going. The pace soon picked up and I found myself ensconced in a page-turner! The reader gradually learns the sister's backstories and long-held secrets are exposed. I thought I had a pretty good idea of the story's outcome but I was still rewarded with surprises. 😁
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my own unbiased opinion.
Thank you to Netgalley and Hachette Books Ireland for the arc of this book by Zoe Miller.
3 star read- overall this was a good read but it got confusing at times of what was actually happening but apart from that i finished the book fast, but overall a great book.
⭐⭐⭐
The opening pages of The Perfect Sister allude to something big and mysterious, and while something like that is in the midst, it’s not until about halfway through the book that the story starts to unravel. For me, that meant it was hard to view this book as a thriller at times. In fact, I found it more of a love story between Alice and Damien. While I saw the purpose of the storyline for the overall plot of the book, it was a bit too much for my liking in a thriller. However, I was pretty satisfied with the overall plot by the end, plus it gave me some time to enjoy the character development.
The Perfect Sister alternates between different timelines and the perspectives of Alice and Holly. While I leaned more toward liking Alice, neither sister was very likeable. Alice was overbearing and at times holier than thou, while Holly was an ungrateful, spoiled brat. However, it was interesting to see how their characters evolved and the theme of what we would do for our family was enjoyable.
I also enjoyed the reflection on the Celtic Tiger, although this is more seen from Holly’s lifestyle than Alice’s. It was a stark reminder of how so many people lived beyond their means and got themselves into serious financial trouble.
While The Perfect Sister wasn’t the best thriller I ever read, it was certainly enjoyable and left me wanting to find out more.
Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review on netgalley. This is a new author for me which never loses its excitement.
Packed with twists and turns this is a great read. Family secrets and sibling rivalry pave the way for these sisters.
Can they move on whilst their past lingers?
Unpredictable and kept me hooked.
I could relate to Alice who is a single mum with a not too kind ex. I could also relate to Holly who’s made many mistakes and is living in a controlled relationship, though she doesnt realise.
Can they bury their differences to work together?

3 for neutral, as this book had me too confused to finish and properly review. If able ti understand enough to finish at later date, I’ll update review,
Years earlier something happened that caused a rift between sisters Holly and Alice. Holly has a secret from the past that has made her isolate from Alice for years, and Alice never understood what happened between them. Now something happens that causes Holly to disappear and Alice to question everything she knew about her sister. I really didn't enjoy this much. I didn't like any of the characters, any of the decisions they made. The ending wasn't a real surprise. Two stars.
I really enjoyed this book. Totally. Kept me interest through out and lots of dark family secrets. Brilliant. Highly recommended x
Holly and Alice are sisters that were close at one point in time. As they start becoming jealous of each other and secretive they start to drift away from each other. The story focuses on the past and present. Alice spent a big part of her life watching over her sister so when she realizes something is going on that Holly may be involved with from the past she tries to figure it out. Throughout the book you get pieces of the puzzle that build the story.
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.
Holly and Alice are sister who have always looked out for each other. Alice, being older, has always felt protective of her younger sister since their Dad walked out and their mother died.
After years of being molly coddled by her big sister and her mother, Holly whats adventure and freedom and after meeting her soul mate, Luke, that is exactly what she gets with devastating consequences.
I've always loved Zoe Miller's ability to combine an easy read with a bit of suspense and that is exactly what you should expect from The Perfect Sister. I really liked the characters in this book and the exciting plot that kept me guessing to the end. I would recommend this book to my customers.
