This book was perfect for the New Year! I love the way the author really painted a picture of the main characters and their backgrounds. I was glad she incorporated mental health and how it could effect everybody, no matter your social status.

This was a fun New Years read. The backstory of the characters families were interesting. It’s a tale of will they or won’t they. I would have enjoyed a little bit of a lighter tone. Enjoyable chick lit.

One of my all time favorite movies is Same Time Next Year. And this is the reason I reached for this book, while knowing the plots were different. I am glad I did! While a part of wanted to tell Minnie to just get over it, the other part really grew to like her and all of her friends and root for her and Quinn. This was a terrific story and one to reach for when you are desiring a book that will lift you up during the hectic holiday season.

This was a fun, cozy, slow burn romance that was hard to put down. While it was a little predictable, the dual POVs kept it interesting to learn Quinn and Minnie's stories. I did find that the pacing wasn't my favorite - there were times when the story felt to drag a bit. Overall, it was a delightful read! Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!

I picked this book as the Jolabokaflod book club for my mom, my sister, and me. I am so glad I read it. It was so cute! Quinn and Minnie happen to meet on New Year’s Day just after midnight, only to find out that they were the first two babies born in the same hospital 30 years ago. Minnie feels cursed and Quinn seems to be leading a charmed life. The book is comprised of flashbacks and Quinn and Minnie’s interactions throughout the year. I knew how it was going to end up, but I didn’t figure out how the story was going to get there. It was a great read!

This book was cute and definitely would be fun to read in December. It's a rom-com and follows the usual format of a couple that meets, can't get together, continues to run into each other but never seem to be in the right place to be together until the end.

Quinn (male) and Minnie were born on January 1st. Quinn was the first baby of the year, born just before Minnie and Minnie's mom has been resentful every since. She also is upset because she wanted to name her baby Quinn and the name was stolen. Since then, Quinn's mom has basically told her that she is unlucky and so is her birthday.

Minnie believes this and has a hard time with her birthday. Until her 30th birthday, when she is accidentally locked in a bathroom and Quinn finds her. She meets her nemesis for the first time and is attracted to him (the owls in her belly? odd).

The book jumps around to past New Year's Eves and the present day (2020 with no pandemic - I love fiction!). We learn that Minnie and Quinn were in the same place at the same time a number of times before but they just didn't meet. It all comes together and it's cute, but it is nothing that is deeper that will stick with you.

The title of the book comes from Minnie's friend asking each year on New Year's Day: Where would you like to be this time next year?

Which I like a lot and think is a cool concept as opposed to resolutions.

I totally loved This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens! Such a great premise and slow burn in the romance, as the charming and flawed main characters Minnie and Quinn find each other under less than ideal circumstances. A great addition to the holiday rom-com genre.

This book was so lovely but then the ending was so rushed and abrupt. I liked how the time kept going back and forth.

Thank you so much to Putnam and Netgalley for the ARC of this book.

I really enjoyed this book and the Dual POVs of it. One thing that I wish the book was a little faster paced. I felt like there wasnt a lot of romance in the book because they were going back forth showing all the points in their lives were Minnie and Quinn have met. While that was good I wish there was more time of Quinn and Minnie together.

Overall I give this book 3.5 stars.

Two adults (one named Minnie Cooper) meet at the age of 30. Eventually they discover they were born in the same hospital on the same day just minutes apart. Minnie lost out on being the New Year's baby to this (now) man, Quinn. While she has always thought of her birthday as unlucky, things are maybe looking better after meeting Quinn. This book is full of missed opportunities, friendships, tension, and more. The characters were well-developed and you can't help but root for Minnie and Quinn.

This was such a great book that I ended up buying my own copy so I could read it again. I loved the characters and the plot kept me engaged throughout the whole book.

This was a fun and fast paced romcom that I enjoyed even if it was a bit predictable. But it's hard to surprise readers in this genre.

An adorable story of missed chances that is full of convenient coincidences but will still manage to melt even the hardest of hearts.

This was a cute British Romcom. It has your typical happy ending but still entertaining. I think it’s the perfect enjoyable vacation read.

This book is amazing! It's one of those books that is a masterpiece to read. The pacing, the plotting, the way the details come together and wrap everything up perfectly at the end. It makes for a special and very satisfying read.
From the beginning, Minnie Cooper is destined for sorrow. Her mother helps a fellow laboring mom, Tara, in an overcrowded maternity ward on the even of Jan. 1, 1990. There's a contest for the first 90s baby born complete with a $10,000 prize. Minnie's mom is dreaming of what that money will mean to her family. Tara wasn't even aware of the prize. She and her husband are not lacking in material goods. While laboring together, Minnie's mom confides that she's going to name her baby Quinn, whether it's a boy or a girl. What she finds out later, is that Tara had her baby just a minute or two after midnight on the first, named her baby Quinn, and won the prize money. As a result, Minnie was named Minnie rather than Quinn. Minnie's mom has been resentful ever sense and Minnie knows all too well that she was born with a jinx.
Throughout the course of the book, Minnie meets Quinn and they get to know each other. The narrative is interwoven between flashbacks into both of their pasts and scenes from today. It all comes together flawlessly and I couldn't have loved this book more.
Incredible read. Sophie Cousens has just found a new fan.

“WHERE DO YOU WANT TO BE THIS TIME NEXT YEAR?”

This book gave me all the feels! It shows how you don’t need a lot of cursing or steam to make a book enjoyable. I absolutely loved it, it gave me Dear Emmie Blue and One Day in December feels, 2 books I love. This is Sophie’s debut novel, but it doesn’t feel like a debut novel at all, it’s so well-written! The Zoom chat with her was amazing too, and it gave us a peek into her next novel, Just Haven’t Met You Yet, which I added to our TBR (it releases Nov. 9th).

📖 The story of Minnie Cooper (yea, her parents didn’t realize until a few weeks later, poor Minnie), and how she wasn’t supposed to be Minnie Cooper, but Quinn Cooper. It’s also the story of the person who stole her name, Quinn Hamilton and how he pretty much stole her luck since birth. But did he?

10 ⭐️ (My first 10 ⭐️ of the year! A lot were really close)

❤️ I loved the main characters and very strong side characters. ❤️ All the miss-connections and putting the dots together. ❤️ I loved to see how their friendship blossoms and all the things they do together. ❤️ This book deals with some issues, like anxiety, parent abandonment, parents putting down their kids and more, but it does it in a light way and you see how the kids didn’t let that dominate their lives.

👍🏼 The personal growth they both do 👍🏼 No steam, few bad words. 👍🏼 Short chapters.

👎🏼 I need an epilogue! And I love that Sophie said she is willing to do it, I can’t wait!

💎 “Be a good companion to yourself and you will never be lonely.”
“Better be hated for what you are than loved for what you are not.”
“You can’t change the wind, it’s always going to blow. All you can do is plant your feet firmer on the ground.”
“Don’t cry about something you wouldn’t cry about in five years’ time.”
“I don’t think the scale of other people’s problems makes your own any easier to live with.”

I really enjoyed this book overall, I think what sets this book a part from most is the idea behind it. The thought that a character could believe in something so much that they live in fear of a day. Made me wonder if things really do work out that way. Are some of us born lucky or are some of us born extraordinarily unlucky? Does everything happen for a reason? Is everything a great coincidence of circumstance?

I really wanted to love this book but it felt too choppy to me. I finished the whole thing and enjoyed it, but it wasn't AS good as I'd hoped.

My thoughts on this read are a little mixed. I love a good cute romance, and although this one did have a lot of cute moments, they were hidden behind characters that were constantly arguing. I definitely found the storyline to be completely unrealistic, but I still found it to be an quick and enjoyable read, and I would definitely recommend it to others.
