Cold as Ice is the latest in a long line of thrillers from Allison Brennan. Although the book deals with past events that are influencing the present, this is a stand alone story. Ms Brennan is a master at putting her characters into impossible situations and figuring a way for them to escape while keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. I want to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an early copy to review.
One of my friends has recommended Allison Brennan books to me for years, and when this one came up for review, I was thrilled to get it!
Have you ever been the new person at a family reunion, where everyone knows everyone (and their backstories) so well that they can talk in a shortened type of code? That's how I felt coming into this series so late. There are a lot of characters here to keep track of. People who joined the family years ago came to know them one by one and get to know them along with everyone else. That would be so much easier!!
It was a bad choice to jump into this well established series. But I like Brennan's writing style and Lucy Kincaid as a protagonist and I want to get to know them both better. I rate this 3.5 stars, but I'll be going back to the series beginning, and come up the way the rest of you did. I can tell this series has a lot going for it. I need to catch up!!!
My thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for allowing me to read a review copy of the book. Publication is expected to be 10/27/20. All opinions expressed here are my own.
Excellent. One of her best. With several stories resulting from one plot, most of the Rogans and Kinkaids are prominently featured. And if you ever wondered what happened to some of the past villains, this book sews up their stories, as well. There is a new endearing character who is set to be a regular. I definitely recommend this book to readers of Allison Brennan.
Wow. What an amazing roller coaster ride. This is the first book I have read in this series and by this author. I was a little lost but not too bad. I was able to keep up. However it has interested me to go back a read this series from the beginning.
What an amazing read by such a great author
Allison Brennan some how is able to write page 17 and still bring something new and different to Lucy Kincaid story. I have only read a handful of the Lucy Kincaid story. Allison Brennan is able to always bring readers up to date while keeping the story moving forward. The characters have grown up with the readers to the point everyone is almost like family.
Cold as Ice will not disappoint reader as the story continues from the last book No Way Out. With the death of a character in the last book. New readers will not be lost and will find themselves wanting to know more about Lucy and her loyal tribe that will do anything to protect Lucy and her family.
The story is fast pace. Readers will feel the fear tha Lucy feels as she is trying to protect the man she loves and find out the truth.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Allison Brennan Cold as Ice.
Allison Brennan never fails to deliver a "can't put it down" read. This one has wonderful plot development and character build. Must read.
I have been provided with a review copy of Cold as Ice from NetGalley for an impartial review. This is the seventeenth book in the Lucy Kincaid Novels series and I just loved getting to reenter this world. I was just drawn into this wonderful story and I just couldn’t get enough of it. It was just so easy to get lost in this great story. I just didn’t want it to end. I just lost myself in and I just couldn’t get enough of these interesting characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.
I really don't want any spoilers in my review..so short and sweet.
If you love this series and you've read a fair amount, take a moment before diving in because you won't believe what's happening. It's a twisted, roller coaster of a ride that will leave you breathless at the end.
If you haven't read this series, I highly suggest reading at least a few of them prior to this, Cold As Ice is a culmination of a lot of storylines that have been weaved together. (Not saying this is a final book, but a lot of pieces come in to play)
I have read quite a few Lucy Kincaid books and have been reading them out of order. I have been told that each book builds on the previous ones, and I have noticed that, however, I have never felt confused with each book. Now with that being said, Cold as Ice made me want to go back and read every Lucy Kincaid book in order. It's not because I was confused or anything but because I wanted to learn more about some of the past events that get mentioned in this book. For example, I am really curious to learn more about Elise Hunt as it sounds like this is not Lucy's and Sean's first run-in with her and her family.
Cold as Ice is written from multiple peoples narratives and it was done pretty seamlessly. Each person's narrative added to the story. There were also more than one case that was going on, as is a very common occurrence that I am learning in the Lucy Kincaid books. Previously, this would often times bother me as I would find it hard to see how the two cases were connected or I felt that the main case was enough for the story and that the second case really didn't belong. I didn't feel this way about the cases this time. I actually quite enjoyed them all. Each case is clear to see how it is related to the other as it is very clear that someone is trying to take out Lucy and RCK.
I felt like the story was very fast paced and draws you in within the first few pages, which I am always a huge fan of. I find it extremely difficult to want to put this book down and was always trying to find more time to read it. It is a definite read and an awesome page turner.
Past enemies come back to haunt FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid and everyone close to her this time. Her husband, ethical hacker Sean Rogan, is framed for murder, while others in Lucy's circle are attacked in various ways.
As matters escalate, it becomes clear that old enemies (including some who once were friends) are involved in a convoluted plan that centers on Lucy herself.
This is another great story in the Lucy Kincaid series. I really enjoyed seeing characters from older books. This book is full of twists and turns and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole book
One of my all time favorite series! Allison Brennan never disappoints and this latest addition to the Lucy Kincaid series is great. I definitely recommend reading them in order, as each book builds on the last.
I did feel that the first few chapters moved a little slowly for me, Once I got passed those ... the story and action definitely picked up. Looking forward to seeing what trouble Lucy and Sean get into next.
Thank you #netgalley and #stmartinspress for the eARC.
I've read a couple of books by Allison Brennan, and each one has been fast-paced and suspenseful. On the minus side, the books are full of characters from previous books in the Lucy Kincaid series. Nevertheless, the books can be read as stand-alones.
from description: Two years ago, FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid put psychopath Elise Hansen Hunt in juvenile detention for her role in an organized crime syndicate. Now eighteen, Elise has been released with a clean slate, and plans to take her revenge by making Lucy’s life hell. The plot begins with Lucy’s husband Sean Rogan, who has been arrested for a murder he most certainly did not commit.
Cold as Ice is certainly as suspenseful as the other books Lucy Kincaid books I've read.
Strange how worried I can be for characters--when I know that in the end, things will work out. Nevertheless, I worried about Sean, feared Elise, and cheered all efforts to make sure the characters I cared about turned out OK. :) Brennan knows how to ratchet up the tension and keep her readers on edge.
Read in August; blog review scheduled for September 10.

Just remember to breathe, because I'm not sure I did for most of this book. There's not a lot I can say that want spoil this for you but if you love this series like I do you're going to have to remind yourself to breathe throughout the reading of it because you are on the edge wondering if things are going to be okay with everyone.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
FBI Agent Lucy Kincaids husband Seth has been arrested for murder. There is compelling evidence against him but Lucy has no doubt he’s been framed. By who and why are the questions she needs answered. Soon other friends and relatives are accused of crimes or have disappeared. The path to finding the truth leads you down a twisted path. I enjoyed this book except for one thing. I felt that one of the major male characters was weak and I had trouble connecting with him. I still enjoyed the book. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
One of my favorite mystery writers who never disappoints. Enjoyed the book and it will be another hit and a great page turner for sure.
